Need room for more Lego...

Hi everyone,

I'm new here to this forum, but have been a Lego Maniac (does that date me?) for years.

Among other things, I started coaching Lego Robotics for the last 5 years (skipped 2022 & 2021 for Covid reasons).
And anytime, I've gotten frustrated with our team progress (although we've done well), I've bought a Lego set. (Not the most financially responsible thing).

Anyways, I want to buy more Lego (and just did), but my wife wants me to reduce how much Lego I have.
And I don't have a "Lego" room that I can keep away from my toddler.

So...

Questions:
  1. I noticed that there are ways to mark: "I want this set", for members. Is there a way I can tell them, I have "x" set and want to sell it?
  2. I want to display some lego sets (like the Old Fishing Shack), and make it toddler-proof. Any ideas? (I feel like the villain in the Lego Movie)
  3. I missed some exclusive sets that I *really* wanted to have. Is it worth it buy it brick-by-brick (vs buying it whole from the re-seller?) (Ex. 40451 Tatooine-Homestead)
Sorry I put three questions in my first post.
Any thoughts?

Edit: I think I put this in the wrong sub-forum. Can the admins please move this to the right place?

You can create custom tags for your set inventory on the main site. I made several 'no Minifigures', 'parted out' and 'to sell/trade'

For me the answer to question 3 has always really been about if you want the 'official' set or you just want the build.  And if you DO want the official set, do you want to break the seals/have ALL the official pieces, including the box, or are you content with a used set with official stickers/printed pieces/instructions.  For me, if you want just the build, part it out as first choice.  If you want the official set, but don't care about the box/extra pieces/it being brand new, then I'll either part it out and make sure to get all the official pieces and instructions OR get a complete used set off Bricklink.  Otherwise... I'll go for the new sealed in box ones.  One important thing to consider when parting things out as well, is that between minimum buys, shipping, tax, etc, depending on the set, it can often actually be cheaper to just buy the set used (or sometimes even new) than it is to part it out.  It can get expensive quite quickly to part out sets, especially if you can't find most of the parts in one or two stores.

Oh. (And people looking for those items there can get them?)
Or is there a better place to post it?

That's a great idea. I'll see what I come up with!

Doesn’t “part it out” mean breaking up a set to sell or re-use the pieces?

You can part a set out to a wants list too, then assemble it (the opposite of parting out!) using that wants list.

As to whether it is better value to piece it together than buying the set, for most sets it isn't. Unless it is an exclusive set made of widely available parts where the value is in the box and instructions.
