"Like" avatars are missing

AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,481
I just noticed today that the small avatar images for each Like of a post are gone. I've checked on an iPad and MacBook using both Safari and Chrome.

    For me they aren't showing on the forum pages but you can still see them on the likes page of your profile

    Same here. And also, I learned there is a likes page in my profile :)

    Ok this is weird, I'm seeing them on some posts but not on others.

    Compare the original post with the bottom two comments:

    They're missing from my Chrome browser on my Note 9.

    Don't have the avatars on my iPhone. But pages are loading MUCH faster so I can't really complain.

    Older ones are still shown for me but the ones put on during the last couple of days don't show up for me either. Still see a total number of 'likes though'. Although seeing friendly little avatars makes you sometimes feel a bit more connected.
    I'm sure with Bikes to Billund and Skaerbek at the moment the crew might be a bit busy to resolve it but maybe when we get back we might have more luck :)

    I've done a little digging on this now I'm back on a desktop computer.

    Basically, original posts (i.e. the first one in each thread) still shows them, but any comments don't, no matter how old. This makes sense, as the OP is treated slightly differently to comments by the forum software.

    In the OP, there's a div class called 'RecordReactions', which seems to deal with all the like images. In comments, this is missing. I'd suggest that some update to the forum software removed that from the comments, either intentionally or otherwise.

    Hopefully @Huw will either be able to put it back in, or flag the issue with Vanilla forums.

    I am missing them as well in my computer web browser. I see the number of likes, but not the avatars

    Yep ^^^ This.

    Avatars liking on posts other than the thread opening post can only be viewed within a user profile.

    Can I just say: bring back the avatars on likes, please.

    PS In posts on threads I am also having problems with @username not working. I could wait forever but matching username(s) never load.

    It's like vanilla stripped out many features of the forum.

    Also realised that when #setnumber doesn't work first click, click the very same a second time to be taken to the set in the brickset database.

    This sounds like it could be the title of a very whiny super annoying song:
    'I wanna know if you like me!' .... So please show me that you like me etc. etc.
    Anyway, bring back the like avatars!!

    I also have found @username clunky to use but usually successful, but I just tried it here again and no suggestions like you say.

    About #setnumber not working the first time, I have found that it requires a reload of the page you are on to make it work. I don’t think the script that makes it work runs until the page is loaded again.

    I'm also experiencing intermittent, can't post pictures. Instead of uploading the selected picture it puts a little icon next to the choose files button that says 1 photo next to it, with no way to bring the selected picture into the pm or post.

    I'd upload the screenshot, only it's doing it right now.

    And I got it to work with the exact same pictures in the same pm to the same person that it didn't work for in the first place. Weird. It's not even generating a message like File failed to upload. It's just simply not behaving as before. It either works or behaves as I described above.

    As for the @username issue, I only noticed it at the weekend when I was preparing the bonus ball entry list. That task made it rather obvious that it wasn't working. I still managed to create a new pm with it though, thankfully. The functionality isn't broken there, just in thread.

    The username thing works on my mobile browser. I'm not at home to try my desktop one. Have you guys tried a different browser?

    I have no issue with the avatars being removed for likes.. if it helps load the pages faster, I think it’s only a good thing!

    Agreed. And I like knowing who liked my comment.

    Yup, mostly for that, but as I suggested years ago it would be a lot better if you have already liked it for the "Like" link to change into "Unlike"... :/

    If you click like and the number goes up then you hadn't previously clicked it. If you click like and it goes down, you had.

    Yes, but that's a superfluous step, every other site lets you quickly visually see you've liked something, this one should be no different.

    @Huw and @drdavewatford, have you been able to track this down at all? If it’s just a deliberate change to Vanilla Forums, it would be nice to know that.

    Yay!

    Now, if a fix could be found for why a photo is no longer uploaded but instead placed next to the "Choose files" button as "1 photo" with a tiny thumbnail (three-millimetre-nail more like) of the chosen photo, then I'd be ecstatic! At first it was intermittent but now it's all the time.

    I tried just now before writing this post, still the same.

    Haha, then it's likely isolated to the device, browser or OS used?

    I'm using Chrome on my Android phone, a very very outdated Samsung Note 3. :-))

    @huw

    I'm still having problems uploading pictures to threads or pm's. I have tried a different os and browser tonight and the result whilst looking slightly different is essentially the same, the image can be selected from the file system but gets stuck inside the picture dialog box and goes nowhere. Doesn't get added to the thread or pm. With ipad/safari it does as I described above. With Windows/ie it adds the file location in the middle of the box (not the image url) and still does nothing.

    Also within threads @ no longer loads possible forum names. No matter how long I wait.

    I know I'm not the only user with the same issue. Used to work before. Became a problem around the same time the like avatars disappeared. Please help.

    I certainly don’t want to undermine you, but as far as the @ username feature goes, that one has been working lately for me (safari on iPad). Although it does have quirks, like the blinking text entry bar disappears after selecting a name and text doesn’t show up until I tap in the box again, and sometimes I get an extra @something that I have to delete.

    Glad to hear it's working for you but it's the dead of night, ie next to no network traffic, and I just sat for 6 minutes with

    @Legob

    on my screen and saw draft saved auto pop up at 04:20AM and 04:26AM whilst I waited for options and now 04:28AM whilst I type, so I'd say it's still not working for me on safari on ipad. Besides, tbh, I can live without the @username, but not so much without pictures/screenshots. I hoped it would sort itself, meaning pictures, but it hasn't and now it's really annoying.

    Also the extra @something from time to time was standard, that's always been a feature as long as I can recall. It would often look like @[email protected] for example.

    Whooo hoooo! @name just worked for me in another thread and so I tried to upload a picture and both features are working again, yay!

    Thanks to whomever fixed it. :o) So pleased I can post pictures again.
    @Huw was it you?
