While it wouldn't make sense in the modular line, I really feel Lego is positioning themselves to come out with a zoo. They've done it with Duplo, so it's not totally out of the realm of possibilities, and they've given us loads of new animals the last few years. Even a "modular" zoo would be cool, with each exhibit separate so as you can pick and choose what you want.

I think that would be more likely as Friends subtheme or a City subtheme.  I'm not sure you can design a zoo to fit on a 32x32 baseplate.

^Even at a 48x32 plate like AS, it would be pretty tight. 

Jang has a zoo in his city that seems somewhat compact, but it's still several baseplates worth of space.

With the "period feel" of modulars surely a zoo with tiny cages would fit the theme? How big is a Lego e.g. Polar Bear?

I'm not sure that size would be the main issue for a zoo, although it definitely would be *an* issue... They would have to add at least 5 or 6 animal figs (e.g. a bear, lion, gorilla, elephant, giraffe) or brick build them, which would limit the number of parts for the zoo structure to keep the price in the range of the other modulars.

Personally, I like the idea of an antiques / book store or similar.

I cannot see LEGO doing a zoo where the animals are in tiny cages. There would be too much negative media / backlash from animal rights protestors.

I can't recall which video or interview it was but I remember Jamie Berard talking about the Diner and expressing a desire of the modular team to keep innovating and surprising us. I would much prefer that to a PP or a remake of an old one. It would be a sad day if the Creator line lost it's creativity.

I thought that Fire Brigade was innovative compared to the regular fire stations in City, so I would expect any Police Precinct would be similarly innovative / new compared to police stations gone before. I guess the question then is a Police Precinct innovative compared to FB (or TH or BB ...) if it is in a classic style building. I would hope that they can return to doing some more classic (regular) style buildings that fit together quite well rather than being totally innovative and surprising (in the sense of being unique from a positive viewpoint or not fitting well with others from a negative viewpoint) for the sake of being innovative and surprising. While a PP wouldn't necessarily be surprising that doesn't mean it wouldn't be innovative.

The good thing about the modulars is that they look good both individually or together.  A one-off like the diner is fine. So long as the future is not all one-offs.

Helpful hint to crooks: If you've escaped LEGO jail, and haven't found a non-striped shirt yet... maybe zip up or button your jacket? Just an idea...

Maybe a modular clothing store that sells horizontal black and white stripe shirts.  Imagine all the black market cookies this place can rake in.  Oh...and they must also carry the beanies too.

I think a separate zoo line might work better like the winter village or the amusement park sets.  Just release parts of a zoo at a time so people can add to the build as they go.

It's those devious eyebrows.  It's the gender equivalent of a scruffy beard.  (And apparently sassy lips are another give-away of your life of crime.)

I don't think I've seen any arsonists, but they're doubly-bad and probably have striped shirts, devious eyebrows, pursed lips and a scruffy beard!

A PP is a definite, but there are so many other buildings to make. It would be neat to bring back the Pet Shop style of Modular; a shop and an adjacent Brownstone/Apartment. Hardware Store, Hair Salon (for the ladies), Furniture Shop, Pizza Restaurant, Toy Store, Florist, Coffee House, Jewelry Store, Antique Shop, Pawn Shop, Hospital and/or Doctor's office, Veterinary, Garage, just to name a few ;)

I'd love a book shop, library, or maybe a museum. If it's a Police Station, this will be the first year I buy neither the new Winter Village nor the new Modular sets.

I think one advantage of a police station is that it can encompass a lot of familiar scenes — a main office, a separate office for the chief, a jail (with a room for taking mugshots and questioning), an evidence lockup, etc.

With a post office, I'm not sure even that many adults are particularly familiar with what kind of stuff goes on behind the counter. I think the only "behind the scenes" looks at the operations of a post office I can remember have been on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood back when I was a toddler (God bless Mr. McFeely!), and the postal sorting facility in "Miracle on 34th Street". LEGO post offices in the past have typically been rather small and sparsely furnished, with a post van to pad them out).

Railway station could certainly be fun, provided they found a good place to put the rails. I've seen good modular railway station MOCs. Again, there's some nice variety of potential scenes/play scenarios: the station platform itself, some shops/kiosks, a stationmaster's office, etc. It's also worth noting that the latest wave of City trains, unlike many in the past, did not include a station.

Hardware store would be pretty fun, though I imagine if LEGO did that it'd only occupy the ground floor and the upper floors would be for other homes/businesses. Same with jewelry/antique/pawn shops. It might still be a bit too soon for a coffee house or florist after the cafe and florist in Assembly Square.

I wouldn't mind a school! Heartlake High did a really good job incorporating various school experiences into a moderate-sized schoolhouse — a modular's bigger footprint and budget could potentially allow for an even more complete experience.

But in general, my biggest wish for the next modular — no matter WHAT it is — is that it be wheelchair accessible, now that a dedicated wheelchair piece exists. As it stands, Town Hall is the only set that's had an elevator, and to get to that elevator you had to climb a flight of stairs!

I would love to see a theatre. Not a movie theatre like Palace Cinema but something more ornate with a stage, dressing rooms, tiered seating etc.

I do feel the most likely candidate for next modular is either a hotel or museum though.

Not sure if you've seen it but i myself will never be able to think of mail and its sorting without thinking of the mailroom scene from The Hudsucker Proxy. Actually, an entire Modular Hudsucker building (complete with Sid Mussberger's excellent office) would do nicely...

How about a checks cashed and payday loan place for all the crooks to knock over. Or are the real crooks the owners? Kids can learn about exploitation of the poor and bad interest rates while role playing in a fun environment.

Great idea!  Theme it to a dying strip mall, it can also have a dollar store and a nail place.
