I think it looks wonderful. The piece increase is a bit of a steep increase, though. I think my only nitpick would be how the cars will have to drive across the tiles to get to the garage or gas pump, but that won't stop me from getting this set.

Might as well start the "Is Jo the male or female mechanic?" debate!

Before the reveal, I was sure the vet would be female to balance the male mechanic. But they've done a male vet with both male and female mechanics and gone for an ambiguous name, although used a spelling normally used for females rather than males.

I love the 'No Snakes!' on the Vet's window.  Fantastic little detail.

The diner will blend in better with my town with the garage. Excited as always with a new modular building.

The citizens from the other buildings will need to get their heads upgraded so they don’t look like mindless zombies.
I wonder why all of a sudden they went away from the classic smiley faces???

l like the look of it. But do we need a vet when we already have a pet shop? Feels like it's too many pet-related things. Then the apartment on top looks like it doesn't have a door preventing people from coming in, just like Ace Brickman's apartment. l feel bad that someone from the public will just walk on in to the apartment during an inappropriate time.

Also, is there no brick built words in this?

I find the ground floor somewhat lacking. It looks like all the tool bins and such from my Speed Champions sets will need to fill it out more. The lack of tiling on the customer side is extra noticeable. I do like this set and will probably get it but it feels bad to already be noticing areas that will need to be filled out and improved on in a $200 set.

Maybe it is so they can use the toilet, conveniently located in the kitchen.

I like it but I don't know if the top half and the bottom half really go together.  The design looks like it could have made a nice hotel.

I guess, from the point of view of people, the question can be phrased: do you need a doctor when you have a supermarket selling food? The answer is yes. So we do need a vet even though there is a pet shop.

Plus there will be 8 years between the release of the Pet Shop and this set, so it's been a while...

Yes, video here (about 20s in):

The car lift isn't great, it's very jerky.

After such elaborated buildings like the DO and AS or the BB, hack even DD ... this? What is this? For my part I'm very disappointed and still can't believe it's real

I reckon the cat fan girl killed it so she can feed it to her cat.

And this may look like a cute picture of a girl taking her bunny home, but given her history .... Look out bunny, you're next.

And she does it with a smile ... a sure sign of a pyschopath.

I'm learching the forums since nearly a year now, just waiting to see the new release. My first impression is "meh", primarily because of:
    - another brown facade? we already had more than enough of them...
    - the actual space for the interior is really small compared to previous sets and it seems a bit empty, too
    - an inverted corner? it'll be difficult to put it into my linear Main Street...

The building seems a little plain. The modulars usually use some fancy new techniques for detailing. I like it, just looks a little bland compared to most of the other sets. I am curious about how they got all those tiles (jumpers?) angled downward at a 45° angle along the roofline.

In many cases (US) the term "grease monkey" is considered a derogatory term. Some of my friends that are mechanics, embrace the term, but I guess it all depends on the context you are calling someone that name.
It was just a Seinfeld reference. My apologies it was obscure and didn’t take

I don't know what I was expecting to see, but not this for sure.
I'm not convinced on the choice of businesses nor the facade or the interiors have that wow factor -however, I can see some nice MOCs coming out of this set.

I'm glad I didn't wait for the new modular and bought the Old fishing store instead!

The more I look at it, the less I like it. First reaction was OK, nice colour scheme, imposing building, and I do like that it cuts the corner with one main frontage rather than another two frontages on two sides like the others. But the details are just awful, like the gaps that @CCC pointed out, the printed vets window being obscured by the garage signage, the extremely basic bed, the coloured taps for the sink, the interior colour scheme (dark orange is great for the exterior, but terrible for the interior), the clunky vehicle lift and the fact that once you put two buildings alongside it, accessing that action feature is going to be very difficult. The list goes on. It feels very rushed and unfinished. And what happened to using existing parts cleverly that the modulars were renowned for? Why so many new parts and molds?

Yeah, as you can tell, not all that impressed.

I wasn't blown away when I first saw the images.  I agree that the interior is a bit Spartan, especially in the garage.  I'll get the set and mod it more to my liking.

Another doctors office? The dentist office in the previous modular was good but this not so much. It seems that the service center works for free.

Personally I like it. I don't think the official photo is the best angle of it, but I think it's really interesting and keeps the line providing us with something different each time.

As for the price, it's gone up in all three markets, which makes me think they've finally adjusted the modulars for inflation - they've been around the same price (certainly in the UK) since Grand Emporium back in 2010.

In fact, Downtown Diner is cheaper in the UK than Grand Emporium was, despite having 300 more pieces.

I had the same immediate reaction to the corner condition as you did, but it works in a linear fashion assuming that you leave a gap between this building and any facing corner building, as opposed to putting the side walls flush to each other

Seems to me that its set too far back on the base plate to function as a proper "inverted corner" that some have been calling for.

I feel like it's a really, really good City set, rather than the next Modular.  I'm curious what kind of feedback Jamie and the design team are getting......

I'm pretty excited for this set. I think once people get to build it, we'll get a good sense of how the set works. Personally I like the styling of the facade; to me it references late-1800s North American city warehouses/factories and that's a good colour for the bricks.

The imbalance between the two sides (the garage door & the door leading upstairs) probably causes odd angles along the front, but I like that unique asymmetry. The height will be great too... it appears to be taller than AS and I have some taller custom modulars that this will fit nicely with. I'll likely remove the back corner indent to increase the inside space, especially since the depth of the garage bay does appear tight.

I previously modded the City petrol station to be a corner unit, and placed it on a curve road plate (it didn't fit into my city and was removed). I'll be curious if I can do the same with this Garage.

    Also on the marketing copy:
    • Collect and build an entire town with the LEGO® Creator Expert Modular Building 10243 Parisian Restaurant, 10255 Assembly Square and 10260 Downtown Diner.
No mention of the DO or the Bank.

Overall I'm glad for the advance announcement so I can plan out how to fit this build into my city. My only complaints would be the price, and the perennial issue I have with being unable to buy this model on January 1 when local stores are closed. LEGO needs to let us pre-order, or release on a better day (Dec 31) as my efforts to lobby Jan 1 shopping aren't working!

Quite underwhelming. The facade looks flat, almost like a big version of a normal creator set (not creator expert). Combined with the price increase... It's a no from me.

the brick words (which always seem to use a new building technique) seem to take at least one year apart since pet shop DD (diner) AS x BB x DO (pool) PR x PC (palace) TH x (but 1891) PS (pets) GE (shop) FB x (but 1932)  MS x GG x CC (hotel) next year im expecting some

Hang on a minute, is that a map of Heartlake?  Proof that everywhere is interconnected!

If you thought the outcry over giving the people in modulars expressive faces was bad, wait until next year when the modular comes with mini dolls instead...

    DON'T GIVE THEM ANY IDEAS!!!!!!

it seems large but less than 2600 pieces makes me question the price increase, the detail looks more creator 3in1 rather than expert, and nothing is shouting NEW!!!

that light blue door - on the front off a modular? no too basic

    those yellow bollards too basic

    that umbrella too basic

the quarter circle tile for decorative purpose too basic

those windows not for me too basic

the roof terrace? dear oh dear

at least we have another dog and vehicle (he sarcastically typed) overall its ok its a little basic but very underwhelming,

Read the review @Huw and appreciated it, but honestly, after the review and the photos, I'm even less impressed overall with the whole thing. I haven't made the deep dive into modulars anyways, but I love the PC which I have and the DD is probably my favorite one overall. I'm a pretty big fan of the 50s aesthetic, but this whole thing just doesn't do it for me sadly.

I watched the very same pictures on another display and the brown looks more like orange on that... have to say I like it more, but I'll have to wait and see it in person to be able to better judge the exterior.
