Thought it might be fun to post some comparison / evolution pics of the Harry Potter figs. I know they're not the most detailed or well lit but I'm sure you can get the picture. Thanks also
@legopants for talking me through the resizer app.

I'll try to keep adding more if people are interested :-)
Oh and in case it's not obvious, the most recent figure is on the left, the oldest (that I own) on the right. Just a snapshot of minifig evolution.
I also think the middle Ron looks better than the new one - I think it's the hair.
also seeing the side by side comparison like that makes new Dobby look far less odd than I thought.
keep up the good work @LostInTranslation
Anybody fancy doing an "audio description" of the images for me? Technically, just a description.
We start off with Harry himself.
'Oldest' Harry is a full sized minifig in slate grey. He has a V neck jumper on with his school badge located just over his small intestine. His tie is done up smartly. He wears a Batman cape and a Beatle wig, and his facial features and glasses appear to have been put on with a Sharpie.
Slightly newer Harry now sports black trousers and a darker grey jumper, the hemline of which has shifted north somewhat. The badge is now located over his stomach. Clearly being a second-year student has led to a slump in standards, and Harry now has his top button undone and his tie loose as is popular with the 'yoof' of today.
His glasses are now being drawn with a finer Sharpie but he sports the sort of mischievous expression that makes you think you're going to find something unpleasant in your bag. The Beatle wig remains.
Harry MkIII has shrunk by about 20%, probably due to shorter legs. He now sports a black gown over his jumper, and he's made some sort of attempt to do his tie up but his top button remains, sadly, undone. I blame the parents.
He has clearly been listening to some indie bands as he now has a side parting and long fringe as seen on popular beat combos of the day. The facial printing is finer again, and now you have found the disgusting thing in your bag that was left there by Harry MkII, this Harry now has a 'Who? Me?' expression.
Thoroughly modern Harry MkIV is shorter still, which demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding in human development by the Lego designers. Hazza now has very short, white legs and appears to be wearing a blue striped pyjama top. If I'd turned up to lessons looking like that, I would have been sent home with a note for my parents.
His hair is even more tousled and his facial expression suggests he's just sat down on a broomhandle but hasn't been entirely upset by the experience..
Oldest Ron sports exactly the same grey outfit / Batman cape as Harry. His hair is a peculiar orange colour normally associated with those Treacle Sponge puddings that used to come in a tin that you had to boil for an hour and open very carefully.
His facial expression is the sort of 'dazed' look that is usually associated with having smoked certain types of 'herbal' cigarettes.
Ron MkII sports the same sort of subtly altered uniform as Harry, but keeps his grey trousers, and clearly the Weasley's impose some standards on their children, as his collar and tie are smartly done up. He has also been listening to Indie bands and has the same floppy fringe / parting combo in a now darker shade of treacle. He has an acceptably 'neutral' facial expression.
Ron MkIII is as short as MkIII Harry and has the same gown. All this time hanging around with the Potter boy has taken its toll, and the shirt is undone and crumpled, the tie a mess. His hair is now in a central parting but at least he has the decency to look embarrassed about it.
@BooTheMightyHamster - it's not that I don't like Ron but just picked a representative figure of each character from various waves.
I'll try to take a couple more pics tomorrow.
Hermione's hair and face appear to have been modelled on Joan Collins in her 70's heyday. Lipstick seems to have been put on with a trowel, and her eye shadow and mascara, along with the bouffant hair and smirking expression, means that anyone looking for a 'lady of the night' fig for there 'Soho, circa 1982' diorama will be most pleased.
MkII Hermione also has a slightly scruffy appearance. Like the boys, her hands have turned from yellow to 'fleshtone'. Her hair is now something more befitting a teenage girl rather than a streetwalker, but over the summer holidays she's undergone some plastic surgery, giving her eyes that slightly 'startled' look.
MkIII Hermione also now sports a centre parting, foreshadowing her eventual shacking up with Ron. She also wears a gown which, unlike the boys, she has actually bothered to do up. Her expression has now settled on 'smug.
MkII fig has, like most of the others, shrunk slightly, and her skirt is now fabric rather than printed. Her ice-cream hair has now melted a bit, and where MkI had some texture, MkII is simply smooth. Probably because of this, she looks a bit sad.
I've no idea who she is. Maybe Luna Lovegood, maybe Ron's sister. Definitely female though.
MkI is truly the stuff of nightmares. It has a monochrome body in the sort of off-white that's used in institutions where they're trying to pacify the patients. It has a simple print of his cloth shirt on the front. His head however, is where your eye will, reluctantly, be drawn. Imagine the Uruk-Hai as drawn by the art department of the Simpsons. Wide lips, a large, pointed nose and bulging eyes that stare deep into your soul and see your darkest secrets.
MkII is very similar, but is now moulded in a more realistic (or as realistic as it can be when we're discussing a fictional elf) skin tone, has a more detailed raggedy shirt, and now has coloured eyeballs. Which makes things marginally - only marginally mind - less horrific.
MkIII Dobby is slightly taller, with a more detailed shirt and now has a new mould for his head. Gone are Homer SImpson's lips and in their place a simple printed smile. The nose is less Goblin and more Pinnochio, and the eyes no longer bulge, but appear to have been gouged from the head of a Friends minidoll, who's body will be found in six months time by the City Police.
Hope that helps!
In other, more Harry Potter-esque lingo, quoting Ron, "That was bloody brilliant!" :D
! particularly the lady of the night description of G1 Hermione!
Had a lot of fun feeling all of the blind packs to get my set of the new 22 CMFs. Actually if we're being truthful my husband is the wizard with the blind packs. I can sit there for hours and have no clue who is inside.
Hagrid:
I think the new one is a great improvement, the new arms and hair are much better.
Dumbledore (two old and two new):
I like the new one with the skirt piece best, everything is so much more detailed.
Quirrell:
Definitely the newer one for me, though I miss that old purple colour.
Voldemort:
There are differences but not showing up very well in the picture. The newer one is dark green rather than black, with a skirt slope. I think overall the new one is better.
Hoping to compare some more at the weekend when I've had chance to build some more sets :-)
I must say I like the old Luna best - those fabric skirts don't always work terribly well, IMO...
First up, Hagrid.
Original Hagrid appears to have been modelled on a fridge, and consists of a good number of right angles. Hagrid has a one piece body that shows a mid-brown, ankle length coat over a lighter brown suit tied with a belt. Hagrid's boots have been borrowed from 'the creature' in Mel Brooks' classic 'Young Frankenstein' in a mid-brown that matches his coat. His hair/beard piece is in a dark matt black that leaves a narrow eye slit which makes me think that Hagrid may have been a ninja in a previous life. Hagrid's arms are quite skinny in comparison to his body, and appear to attach to the sides of his neck so that he gives the impression of being about to launch into the Haka as performed by the All Blacks rugby team.
Hagrid MkII is quite similar, with his coat now a darker brown, matched with a darker suit and boots. His MkI dark, beetley eyes and frown have been replaced with a kinder look and twinklier eyes. Maybe he's pleased that his suit has a less cartoonish appearance and that his coat now has buttons. He's still doing the Haka though.
For MkIII, Lego actually watched the films and realised what Robbie Coltrane looked like. The hair/beard is remodelled to be less stealthy assassin and more 'groundsman'. It allows us to see more of his face, and judging by his expression he's just stood on a drawing pin. The colour palette for his clothes is switched completely, with a toffee coloured suit covered by a light caramel overcoat. While his body is less fridge-like now, his feet have developed right angles as his boots have been replaced by regular minifig feet. Hagrid has also earned sufficient money to undergo radical surgery, and is now noticeably shorter and has his armed attached to the more conventional shoulder area.
MkI appears much as you'd see if your ageing grandfather decided to go to Comic-Con as a Marvel Superhero, but wasn't overly familiar with the comics. Clad head to foot in royal purple, with a flowing purple cloak, Dumbledore has a bright green belt and some embroidery which starts at his belt buckle and finishes at his knees, which is eye catching if not a little odd. Dumbledore has a yellow face and hands and is set off with a grey hairpiece and a beard that looks like a large grey sea-creature of some description. Dumbledore has completed his cosplay outfit with large grey stick on eyebrows such as would be found in a child's dressing up box.
MkII has done away with the cape and is now in a pale blue/grey onesie. There appears to be some detailed printing on the chest piece which is almost entirely covered by the beard. His face is now flesh coloured, hie eyebrows are more realistic and the dark half-rimmed 'armless' glasses a la Morpheus in the Matrix have now been replaced with a trendier tan pair.
MkIII Dumbledore has significant changes. He now sports a dark red outfit with a patterned print down to his knees which makes him look like he's wearing pyjamas. His beard is now less like a sea creature and more like actual facial hair and the centre parting which developed in MkII is now more of a pronounced valley. The strain of constantly fighting Voldemort / taking home wheelbarrow loads of royalties are clearly showing, as he now has definite wrinkles, but at least the money has allowed him to buy a pair of glasses that actually reach his ears.
MkIV Dumbledore has fully embraced his feminine side and is now wearing one of the Queen Mother's old frocks in a delightful eggshell blue. It's set off with a blue-grey pillbox hat complete with gold tassel detail and sports a new beard / hair combo, with a hair band on his beard and flowing grey locks. The wrinkles remain, but he's splashed out for some Grecian 2000, and his eyebrows have now started turning from grey, back to black.
Yellow-faced MkI takes his cue from Comic-Con Dumbledore and rocks a purple jacket / turban combo with black cape. The turban has a small hole in the front which may be a space for a jewel or alternatively could be a handy space to store. He has a mischievous expression which is understandable when you have the world's most evil wizard on the back of your head.
MkII Quirrell is flesh coloured and now has bags under his eyes which is understandable when you have the world's most evil wizard on the back of your head. His suit is now black but he keeps the colour coordinated look going by matching a lavender turban with a similarly coloured sash. The neatly tied tie of MkI is now a top-button undone, tie loose slapdash affair usually associated with Geography teachers.
He's a nasty looking piece of work in both versions. MkI pays homage to Spinal Tap with his suit / cape outfit. (How much more black could it be? None! None more black!) He has a toothy grimace and his eyes appear to be made of ball bearings. Which, to be fair, would make anyone grimace.
MkII has a classier look, with an emerald green smoking jacket. He looks less 'grimace-y' and more 'annoyed', but he still has eyes made of ball bearings. His eye sockets are now red though, indicating many late nights dreaming up schemes to rid himself of Potter, H.
I shall inspect them when I get home...
@LostInTranslation It's a mystery and not just your pics, or this thread. I found it curious that the resizing hadn't made any difference. The same thing happened that does most times, the pics start to load and then all of a sudden I just have question mark boxes in place of all the pictures.
If you hadn't mentioned resizing, I'd have just moved away to another thread, disappointed I couldn't see the pics. It's not always been like this but I'll admit I'd have trouble pinpointing when it started, because it's been a while. I do know that the "what's your LEGO status?" thread used to be a real joy and now some pictures load but most don't, affecting my enjoyment of the thread (and the forum) somewhat.
It's as if the place marker for last post read in the thread breaks the pictures whilst they are loading. It's bizarre. I've tried not touching the screen at all whilst stuff is loading too. Makes no difference.
I think your idea for this thread is great, so I wanted to join in the discussion even if I couldn't see the pics, hence my comment. Good of you to resize, I know people appreciate it.
Many thanks to @BooTheMightyHampster for his entertaining descriptions which really are as good as being able to see the pictures themselves. :o)
