Defective 2018 DUPLO trains

BoiseBoise Member Posts: 7
Hey guys quick question, I've seen and heard about a lot of duplo trains breaking after a short while, namely that the speaker for the train sounds has stopped working and that the motor gets worn out or something, making it incapable of going up DUPLO bridges. Has this happened to any of you? I definitely know about at least 10-12 trains doing this, so I'm beginning to have serious worries...

Thanks for your time!

Well that sucks. I bought one and plan to give it to kid for Christmas.  It would suck if I get to that point only to find out it breaks quickly.

Have you contacted LEGO customer support? They tend to fix problems like this very quickly, once notified.

2 out of 2 Duplo train motors have had issues. I’m waiting for replacements from CS. Sound stopped working on one and the motor is dying on the other

Brushed DC motors do wear out, that is normal. You can open them up and clean the commutator and brushes, unless it's the bearings which is pretty terminal. Speakers failing is weird though, it's just a coil and a (paper or plastic?) membrane. Could be warping (unlikely for plastic) or coming unglued in places. Unless it's the electronics, which would be even weirder, I suspect the circuit is just and epoxy blob chip on a tiny circuit board.
