Lord of the Rings buildable sword in-store promo (LOTRSWORD-1)

pxchrispxchris Member Posts: 2,342
I was looking through the forum and this has come up before - but does anyone have a scan of the instructions sheet (which I understand to just have been a photocopied/printed sheet to begin with) for the LOTRSWORD-1? It was a LEGO Store in-store promotion only back in 2012.

Or - does anyone have an accurate parts list?

What I was able to come up with based on photos/videos that are floating around is:

1x 50450 Black Technic, Axle 32
1x 3941 Dark Bluish Grey Brick, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
7x 3941 Reddish Brown Brick, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
1x 3738 Dark Bluish Grey Technic, Plate 2 x 8 with 7 Holes
2x 3298 Dark Bluish Grey Slope 33 3 x 2
18x 3941 Light Bluish Grey Brick, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
1x 3942c Light Bluish Grey Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Completely Open Stud

Assembled basically in that order from the base up.

I'm toying around with making my Lord of the Rings collection "officially" complete, so this would have to be one of the things I'd need to include with that in order to satisfy things in my mind.

Thanks!!

If I recall when we went there was no instruction sheet per se other than in store how to build...it was part of a scavenger hunt....been a long time since, my daughter still has her sword though.

and we packed it up as we are moving....otherwise I would verify parts for you :( If no one else has helped you I'll check back in month when we are settled into our new place.

That looks right. There is a YouTube video of the build somewhere, I cannot post links right now.

There are also two sticker sheets given out at the same time.

I've seen the YouTube videos @CCC - unfortunately the quality is just poor enough that it's hard to verify.

But I would still really appreciate a scan of the "instructions" that I've seen in at least one of the videos - it looks like a very simple 1 page 8-1/2x11 printed/copied sheet. It would just be a nice thing to have, and since I believe it was originally just a printed piece of paper, I wouldn't might printing my own copy and calling it "complete".

    Thanks again!!

I'm fairly sure they were either photocopies or prints run off in store. I didn't actually do it, but saw kids doing it and the instructions didn't look good quality.

I added a Stud.io model for the sword to Bricklink for an easy parts list.

I bought (or was given, don't remember) that sword from the Mall of America Lego Store way back when. Almost never hear it mentioned. I just got it out in front of me. Your model seems to be completely accurate. I wasn't given instructions with mine, I've never actually seen instructions for it.

    Guys, guys, guys...

I pulled out all the stops (including going to TLG directly) in looking for the original instructions to the sword and today it all paid off!
Through a connection at my local LEGO store I was able to track down the original PDF of the instructions which was mailed out to the store managers for the promotion!

It's a silly little thing, but boy it sure does actually feel like an accomplishment!

    Could you post them?

I don't understand why TLG doesn't post these on their website after the events are over.  I've written to them several times and they always respond to check with my local store.  Unfortunately my local store is 1-1/2 hours away.  It's not like they are saving server space by not making them available to everyone since the stores have to download them any way so they are already on their servers.

I agree - there's no real reason that they couldn't be put on the website after the events. I'm sure it just comes down to them not having seen any value in it, so never made it someones job to do so.

Thanks. I had mine exactly that way, but it is nice to have a copy of the instructions just to feel complete(r).

I see that the instructions made it to the official image on Brickset! This makes my heart happy @Huw!
