SDCC 2018 LEGO Minifigure Predictions

mattytreksmattytreks Member Posts: 201
Well, it's almost June and we're quickly approaching San Diego Comic-Con.  The tradition of recent years has been with LEGO releasing one Marvel minifigure and one DC minifigure, so we'll stick with that!

My guesses are rather safe...I will go with Black Panther (Marvel) and Wonder Woman (DC).

What about you --  what are your predictions for this year?

A SDCC exclusive Wong, where the legs are put on the right way round.

They could reuse the parts from this.

I could see a deadpool 2 character as a minifigure,  alternatively for marvel one of the infinty war figures but really good with dual molding and full printing.

Dc could be anything, I'd guess a wonder woman variant or possibly a figure from the lego batman movie.

I think they are going to go a completely different direction this year. I predict a Frozone minifigure from The Incredibles, along with Gellert Grindelwald from Fantastic Beasts.

I'm still sticking with Deadpool and Cable as brickheadz. I could also see them doing them as minifigures.

If they do, I hope they do it like Bard, Azog, Bilbo, etc and be not truly exclusive. There was that TMNT one that I think remained exclusive.

Damn. Cant delete posts. I didnt realiZe Duckpool was a mash up of Howard Duck and Deadpool. Sue me. Going with current trends not counting movies...

    Maybe...

That weird ass Goth Batman\Joker from the DC Metal series.

    Or...perhaps

Weapon H or whatever that new badass Hulk with the adamantium skeleton is called but i dont think a maxifigure has made the SDCC cut yet.

    Also...

There's that Frank Castle/Ghost Rider pal'in around with King Thanos who i heard was getting his own series soon.

Mash ups seem to be the latest craze I suppose.

John Constantine (Legends of Tomorrow version) for DC and Gwenpool for Marvel.

Considering all of the Super Friends in TLBM CMF series, we have them all but Samurai (and Gleek but I doubt that one). So maybe Samurai. Hope not. Big $$$

As long as it isn't Daredevil, I'll be happy to pass on whatever it is.

Although Cable would make sense - and be very enticing.

They will be sure to do the Ben Affleck version of Daredevil.

I think it would be incredible to have a Daredevil and Elektra from the Netglix series.

A unikitty or puppycorn, an overwatch character in an alternate skin, maybe Thanos bigfig without the helmet.

@BlueberryWaffles last I heard Constantine was just a guest in Legends of Tomorrow. Is he in the show permanently? That'd suck if he becomes a con exclusive. I rather they released a justice league dark set with a bigfig Etrigan, Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, etc.

Constantine was promoted to series regular for next season. Legends is going to deal with more supernatural badies next season. I would love Justice League Dark sets.

@gmonkey76 Shame they cancelled Constantine. The acting of the Legends of Tomorrow cast is just Blegh, or maybe it's the writers with their cliché/cheesy one liners. Gave up after season one lolz.

Mash ups seem to be the latest craze I suppose.

In that case, a Doctor Who mashup with South Park's Mr Hankey, if only to do the punchline for the jokes from playgrounds in the 1970s ... Doctor Poo!

With all the Unikitty madness and a new Deadpool movie I'm going with a version of this.Image result for deadpool unikitty

Don't know as much about the Doc. They took Doctor Who off Netflix :/

I understand being Comic-Con that LEGO would want to stick with it's comic-related properties, DC and Marvel.

But I sure would love if they offered two additional minifigures in addition to those two, like they did in 2014 with Batman of Zur-en-arrh, The Collector, Bard the Bowman, and Unikitty.

If they did that this year, I'd love to see a Star Wars DJ minifigure, along with a Harry Potter Snape variant.  Yesssss!!!!
  • BrickByBrickBrickByBrick Member Posts: 747
^But the DJ minifig is already in a set by himself, I think it would be a little strange to have two sets consisting of primarily a DJ minifig...

They've all been semi-obscure as of late.  So my random guesses are:

Marvel - Gwenpool or Squirrel Girl
DC - Steel from Legends of Tomorrow  (We've had Atom and Vixen so far, so might as well keep the theme going)

I think we'd be unlikely to get one of those as an SDCC fig anyway, since I think he'd ought to have his own unique headpiece/headwear to capture the shape of his rocky head.

One possibility that wouldn't need new molds would be an Infinity War-style Red Skull. Hasn't appeared in any sets (and honestly isn't likely to, given the lack of other set-worthy characters or vehicles in that scene), but unique enough to merit a fig and special enough that people would line up for it.

I loved the movie so much I was going to be "gladiator" Thor for Halloween. I ordered a specially made costume and even made his mace from the movie...well...the best I could :)

Why not a Frozone fig? There isn't one in the Incredibles sets as far as I know.

^-I would be surprised if the bricktober sets appear there. I'm not sure how LEGO will deal with it (at least in the US) but I'm guessing they have probably all ready been made for production to TRU stores (and would be a large number of them), If they have a large production of them, I'm guessing they will wind up being at some retail store.

As long as the production is over 1000 I’m cool with whatever Super Heroes figure is released. Let the lottery and hunt begin.

I also hate to be OT and bit nitpicky on the subject of the bricktober sets, but couldn't LEGO put a little more effort into the Bucky figure's arm?

Its just the Winter solder's arm looks far better in the poly and sets: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981pb063#T=C&C=95

The arm in the bricktober set is plain grey-ish looking, unless we cannot see the arm print from the angle of the photo.

  • FowlerBricksFowlerBricks Member Posts: 1,731
I think it's just the angle. War Machine seems to have arm printing, so I see no reason why Lego should drop it on Bucky.

Something I just thought of – there’s a decent chance the Ideas Voltron set will either be on display or on sale at SDCC.

If LEGO doesn’t go the Marvel/DC route with minifigures, could they perhaps offer up one of the characters from the original ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’ series?  Hmm...

I remember reading on the Ideas Review Results thread they had actually already announced that it'd be available at SDCC first. I never checked it out myself, though.
