My thoughts about the TLM2 sets: everything is awesome.

    #70841 - Benny's Space Squad == $9.99 USD, so that'll be about £20 GBP, right?!?

Hopefully not, because at £10, I'll easily buy a dozen of them :)

Might get Emmet’s Dream House/Rocket Rescue just for the house, and probably the space squad just for nostalgia.

And Benny's Space Squad is only £8.99 for 4 space minifigures!  It gets better.  And there's a limit of 20...

There is something ironic (?) that there are brick-built Duplo figures in the regular sets, but a different set of actual Duplo TLM2 sets.
I think there's a logical reason for that—Duplo parts in a System set could mistakenly signal that the set is more appropriate for kids in the Duplo age range than the majority of it actually is. So System sets set in the Apocalypseburg from the beginning of the movie (where the Duplo characters are some of the primary antagonists) have to substitute System parts instead, while the sole Duplo set has to feature Duplo versions of the main characters so as not to present a choking hazard.

    I know no limits :-)

£8.99 is a great price. And #70821 Emmet and Benny's ‘Build and Fix' Workshop is a decent price at £17.99 too, I think.

    Brilliant!

I think Rex Dangervest is the tough hero Emmet wishes he could be, and we have a Tyler Durden thing going on

    He's Chris Pratt-ception.

Starlord (GotG), Indiana Jones (has expressed interest), Faraday (Magnificent Seven)and Owen Grady (JW) all rolled into one

And then Emmet is basically Andy Dwyer (P&R)

    Looks hilarious!

Totally happy to get new yellow space dudes, but I thought plain yellow legs and hips were not happening due to naked minifig opportunities.

These look very cool, but I think they'd be even better if they actually used Duplo parts instead of brick-built substitutions.

I think it's cool they covered both; we get brick built and regular duplo creatures! The duplo set also includes one that shows up in the end of the first movie. Probably the only duplo set I'll ever buy haha

I love how the System sets are all "Fight the alien invaders!" then the Duplo set is "Emmet and Lucy's Playground Visitors!"

As long as its offset with a glittery Superman figure I'd be OK with that.

I'm usually quite a positive guy but I find these sets very underwhelming. They are very character and minifig centric, there doesn't seem to be much building and what there is, seems like retreads of things that are very recent or even current. Fingers crossed for something that suits my taste more in the second wave.

pretty ironic that there is a junior set aimed at Afols.
highlight for me is blue raptors (the color choice wasn't random, was it?).
    maybe that disco bus too.

UK pricing varies wildly on these sets, almost 50-50 between ok and steep.
    • The Party Bus, Dream House, Escape Buggy, Juniors etc. seem fairly priced
    • The Systar Star Ship, and a lot of the medium-small sets are oddly priced. The 'Introducing the Queen' set seems like not very much for £18 - at least it's not as bad as actual Unikitty Pricing though. I could do without the abomination that is the Unikitty Party Time pricing again. The Rexplorer looks like it should've been priced at £99.99 not £109.99 but I guess dinos obviously push the price up significantly.

There are definitely a few sets that I am interested in, especially:

#70821 Emmet and Benny's 'Build and Fix' Workshop! (I know it's a Juniors set, but Space!)
    #70831 Emmet's Dream House/Rescue Rocket!
    #70841 Benny's Space Squad

I'm not sure that the larger sets grab me as much as some from TLM, but I'll definitely grab one of the sets with the raptors. I'll probably be sensible and get the smaller of the two, #70826 Rex's Rex-treme Offroader!

I wouldn't say it's aimed at AFOLs. It has value as an easter egg to AFOLs, but that could just as easily be for the benefit of AFOL parents of Juniors-age kids. Or even just for Juniors-age kids who recognize Benny's signature 80s space style from the movies themselves… after all, in this day and age it's hardly as though kids have no way of recognizing this style. It just doesn't resonate with them as memories-of-a-long-lost-childhood, but rather as either "hey that's the kind of ship Benny likes so much in The LEGO Movie!" or "hey, it's the logo from that ancient LEGO space stuff from when my parents were my age!"

I mean, honestly, the latter is more or less what classic space means to me even, since I was born in '91. And it's not like young kids can't have a sense of old/retro stuff being interesting in its own way, even if only for how strange and quirky it might seem from their more modern standpoint (I remember being strangely wowed by the time my parents first pointed 8-track tapes out to me in a thrift store).

They're all grossly overpriced in Australia. The conversion rate is around 1.35x but most of them are seeing doubled prices. However, I do like the party bus a lot, and I was excited for the Systar spaceship too before I saw the triple figure price tag...

I`m happy, but I`m happy that I don`t like a lot of the sets, so I won`t have to worry about money! I want the Blue Raptor and Batman but thats about it.

Plus, in Switzerland they are waaaayyyyy overpriced. Pricing here in general is getting crazy. As someone said, you don`t actually get that much Lego - its mostly for the characters.

UK pricing varies wildly on these sets, almost 50-50 between ok and steep.

I imagine the steep ones have been priced ready to be reduced. It seems to be happening more and more with UK LEGO prices these days. 30% off used to be a good deal, but these days 30% off is often about right and only once the discounts go above that is it really a discount.

This definitely doesn't do any favours for my local independent toy shop - they don't make a huge amount of profit anyway so they hardly ever reduce the RRP unless the stock is >1 year old and needs clearing. If the RRP is specifically gauged to be reduced from the gate, that just makes buying something from independents a conflicting experience. On the one hand they're good at giving me tips on second hand things they want to sell, help with finding CMFs or enigmatic hints at soon-to-be-released sets (plus friendly service), but I can't really swallow those sky-high RRPs blindly. Kind of pricing them out of the market completely when Smyths also has friendly staff and regular reductions. (No surprises though to be honest)

What does this mean? “2hr add to watch” That it’s 2 hours long and has ads?
  • gmonkey76gmonkey76 ChicagoMember Posts: 1,548
^If you go to watch a YouTube video you have to watch the trailer for LEGO Movie 2 then you can watch the LEGO MOVIE. But if you skip to watch the video you wanted to watch you have to start at the beginning again.

I think it's quite clever myself. What better way to advertise the sequel to a popular, well-reviewed movie than to offer a free "showing" of the original?
