Nico had some of his development models for Queen Watevra out on display for people at Bricks Cascade. They were quite fun to browse!

It should be noted that these are primarily only the models from the very late stages of development. The models from much earlier (which we saw in his presentation) are vastly different in design and style.

I love the Apocalyspeburg façade with the plane in the middle; gives it a very Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome feel. I think that facade could fit in very well with my Ninjago City/Docks sets. I don't suppose they've published the build instructions for some of their alternative designs that they didn't end up using?

We're lucky to even be getting pictures of some of these varied concepts. Building instructions would be an even taller order since, with the exception of some of the things cancelled latest in development like the Bat-Hemoth, most of these concepts wouldn't have gone through the process of being run through the instruction design process. Not that I wouldn't love to see the instructions for that one in particular, but I doubt we will—Lego releasing instructions for cancelled sets like that would practically feel like an invitation for knockoff brands like Lepin to use those instructions to release them as finished products. That said, for all but the most complex concepts you should be able to figure out most the techniques involved just by examining pictures and video of them closely.

While im not interested on the TLM2 CMF line, I wonder why the Wizard of Oz value are labeled double online? 


I can understand there were many users that support the Idea project a few years back and have a for nostalgia attachment for AFOL, yet I feel the "scalp" value is too soon; this also encourage other to follow this trend.

I don't understand what you're saying.  Are you asking why the Wizard of Oz figures are being sold for double online?

Some folks cannot be bothered to go to a store and feel packets, so they buy from somebody who already did that work, and pay a premium for it. Others may have no physical store nearby, so they pay more because of that. Resellers set prices the market will bear.

This is true, of course. But in this instance, I think it is safe to say that the demand for these is due directly to the fact that there are many fans of the Wizard of Oz who otherwise would not be interested in collectible LEGO minifigures.

A couple days ago I went to 4 different Walmart stores, there was a considerable amount of TLM2 minifigure bags in each one of them, however, after all the feel-check attempts, the WOO minifigs were nowhere to be found (nor the giraffe man). There were plenty of all the others, though.

This definitely.  Even if you don't really care about Lego, the Wizard of Oz figures do appeal to a much larger crowd.  They're very recognizable and iconic.

Also, I heard the other day it's the 80th anniversary this year of the original movie (back in January apparently) so presumably there's some sort of nostalgia thing going on. In hindsight surprised the figures were so low key in TLM2.

could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s not a part that exists - happens all the time with the video games and this seems likely to be a similar situation where ther isn’t a perfect existing hair piece so they design a new digital one.

I finally got around to building #70829 last day. It was the least interesting TLM2 set to me, so it was the very last one I bought to finish up wave one (*taps fingers, impatiently waiting for May*). It's actually much nicer than I'd expected after all, tbh. The cab is uniquely built up, with far more interior space than I've ever seen in a Lego car. The implied suspension struts that slide along the technic beams as they rise and fall are a nice touch. 

This morning I did the suggested combined build with #70827, and now I freaking love it! This should have been the main build from the outset. It improves the model 200%.

Random question: was the watermelon thing ever explained? It seems an odd recurrent motif in the Systar sets and populace, and I'm a bit curious as to it's significance.

I'm assuming it'll be like the Target exclusive version of the first one that came with Prophecy Vitruvious? Maybe that'll be how they release Ginsburg? 

I just hope that the Lego Store carries it too, as there are no Target stores here anymore.

^The real problem is that most of their "Target exclusive" blu-rays are priced higher than the regular versions, depending on what the "bonus" is and how much the regular version is selling for.

I hope that's it, tbh. That this one item out of their entire online offering isn't eligible to ship to Canada is a bit annoying, hahaha. I have several of #30460 already so while more Plantimals would be cool, I won't mind missing out on this.

Past few years I’ve seen a lot of watermelon themed stationary etc so I guess it’s just connecting to that trend.

This... abomination... is an official alt build (combining parts from sets #70832 & #70833). It feels like they've just kind of given up at this point, or it was designed by a Walmart exec over their lunch break. :/

I dunno, I think it's a pretty creative and fun looking model, for what limited parts it had to work with. Turning two sets that are both so basic brick heavy into a giant robot is no easy feat! And I love how it has a nice balance of the Emmet and Wyldstyle boxes' colors.

Fair enough. I was just a bit hyped to randomly come across the instructions while browsing the American Walmart page (which are oddly not offered on Walmart Canada?), and quickly disassembled the sets to build it, only to be a bit dissapointed. The entire TLM2 line is all so slick and polished, that this rudimentary design was a just a bit of a letdown. The alt builds for the 3in1 polys, the offroader, the escape buggy, Emmett's house, the Duplo monsters, and the Watevra fidget box (lol) were all clever and fun. This just feels like a bit of an afterthought, where I was expecting more 'Lego Movie calibur' ingenuity. It is better than nothing, you're correct. It amused me for at least an hour this morning. :)

MandR Productions got his hands on TLM2 wave two #70839-1, #70838-1, and #70837-1 and did live builds on his channel last night. Not sure where he picked them up at but maybe Target? I’m assuming he’ll have the reviews up sometime today.

Yeah sets are out at Target, I believe they are an April 16th release (from Matt Ashton himself)

TLM2 sets just aren't grabbing me as much as TLM1 sets did. TLM1 sets had the nice dual-build option, so you could build something normal that blends in with a regular town, or you could build something outrageous.

Oddly enough, Walmart here in Québec never carried them. I saw them only once, at TRU. I stupidly only grabbed one at the time, and then decided to go back a couple days later for more to add the parts to the Queen Watevera box, only to find them all gone. I already have a pile of the Rex polys from the Lego Store, so getting another Piece Offering is a nicer bonus, for myself at least. I can def see where it's a bit disappointing to most though.

Hmmm, I don't think this is correct. I hopped over to TRU after work today to check for these, and there was no sign of them. S@H doesn't even have placeholder listings for the new sets yet.
