I just found out today that there is actually a screening here in Montréal. I didn't see it on the list initially. It's way out on the west island though, so I don't think I'll make the trek. It'd be kinda fun, but I think I can wait another couple of weeks. Are you going?

I definitely want to bring the kids to see the movie. Just need to find the time between school, Art and Dance classes.

I personally don't think that Star Wars in general is weak; it is still one of the strongest toy licenses. Just because retail sales are down in the US, doesn't mean that Star Wars isn't still a strong performer in the toy market. There are so many options out there that want our money; not just Lego or Hasbro. I used to collect Kenner/Hasbro Star Wars toys, but when TLG aquired the Star Wars license, I didn't buy as much Hasbro toys because I only had so much money. Now, there are many companies like Sideshow/Hot Toys and the like that make fantastic props and premium format figures and I know that many collectors are gravitating toward that. I personally don't have unlimited amounts of income, so I need to be more selective in what I buy. I personally think that Toys R Us closing most of their stores had a significant impact on toy sales.

If Disney thought Star Wars was a dying franchise, then they wouldn't be sinking $2 Billion into Star Wars World at Disneyland and Disneyworld. I went to Disneyworld last year and it was expensive; I didn't spend a lot on toys because a lot of my money went into my family vacation. Just because I personally didn't buy as many Star Wars related toys, doesn't mean my love for Star Wars has waned. I'm sure there are many people like me in that regard.

One final point. Lower than expected turn out for movies doesn't mean a movie is a colossal flop. A movie theater is not the only way to watch a movie now a days and many people are opting to either wait until the movie comes out on their favorite streaming service, buying the Blu-ray or watching illegally. Case in point; Thor: Ragnarok is one of my favorite MCU movies and yet, I waited until it came out on Netflix before I watched it.
I just want to add on to this with two addendums to corroborate your points.

    1) https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj26eaLg4vgAhVKJt8KHeMnBFsQzPwBegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.marketwatch.com%2Fstory%2Fmattel-earnings-kids-are-turning-away-from-traditional-toys-2017-04-18&psig=AOvVaw1CWaQaqQZLnZ0k_eQN1wDv&ust=1548577559099307

Traditional toy sales in general have been falling for years, most of the major players have been feeling the heat. Toys R Us obviously had many problems (*Ahem* Amazon) but its worth not discounting the industry as a whole either. Buying your kid a fire tablet or an Xbox is the easier, ‘cooler’, long term cheaper route for most parents. The number of elementery schoolers with Iphones are staggering, its not hard to see why this would slow an interest in traditional toys.

    2) https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjpp7a1hIvgAhUvVd8KHbvaBPoQzPwBegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2018%2F1%2F3%2F16844662%2Fmovie-theater-attendance-2017-low-netflix-streaming&psig=AOvVaw3JnkcM7x51Oa1vX3NJYWPb&ust=1548577914821365

While I think it affects film a bit less than television, streaming services have massively affected those industries. Why head out to watch Ant Man in theatres when I know it’ll come to streaming in a few months? Or I can save 10 dollars by watching Roma on Netflix now rather than go to see a film at the theatre. Streaming has massively and rapidly changed the game, and I would expect audiences to continue to fall over the next few years.

That is all - facts matter, and arguments should contain substance :)

The movie looks fantastic though, just trying to find the time to see it!

Yeah, it seems that Classic Space fans are hung up on a very specific æsthetic. The current TLM2 line is brimming with fantastic space ship models, but the hardcores appear to be overtly dismissing those while gushing over the decidely bland mini mcbuilds in #70841. I've seen endless hype over that set in here, but virtually nothing for the creative AF builds in #70828, #70830, and #70831

I don't understand it, personally. I'm just as happy with these newer designs as I was with my classic space sets as a kid. But, to each their own, of course. We all want what we want, and that's perfectly fine.

I certainly won’t begrudge any classic space fan #70841.  I might even have to pick one up myself.  But every classic town fan should be looking at #70831.  To me that set, more than any other, evokes the classic town houses, and should fit nicely into a city layout.

Def pic them both up. I wasn't implying that #70841 isn't a great little set for what it is. I was full stoked to have some extra spacemen to populate #70816! I was just saying that the TLM2 seems intent on catering to spaceship fans with a fantastic assortment of incredible designs... that 'Classic Space' fans seem to be quick to overlook. It's not an 'either/or' thing to me so much as a 'why not both?' :D

And, yeah, the house model in #70841 is freaking adorable. I think I need to pick up a second set when these start going on sale. I love both of the builds, but it takes a couple of hours to swap from one to the other. I wish one of the models was less exciting than the other so I could just decide on one, hahaha.

I’m with you, why not both!  You’ve tried both builds with #70841 then?  How does it switch between the two?  I thought it might be like a creator 3-in-1 (which I’ve only done one of) where you just rebuild hte model from the ground up.  Does it actually come apart in bigger assemblies so you can switch it?  That might be pretty cool actually!

You literally have to break it all down and start from scratch. There are two seperate instructions (125pgs for the ship and 128pgs for the house. In comparison, #70830 only has 96pgs), just like the Creator 3-in-1 sets. I really enjoyed the 2-in-1 sets from the first Lego Movie theme. They were quick and fun to swap back and forth. This one is a bit of a pain, but it gets easier every time though. :D

Thanks for the review!  I can see leaving it as the house for my city, so might have to start with the ship to try it, then rebuild into the house.

The ship is full freaking adorable too though, eh? He's got a full on interior going on. I didn't expect to love it as much a I do. I too was mainly interested in the house initially, hahaha.

Oh nice thanks for sharing a pic!  I thought a ‘secondary’ ship model built out of a house would be kind of a meh ‘B’ model.  Looks like it’s ultimately worth building whether you want to keep it assembled on display or not.  Nice!

I think the house is actually the secondary build, tbh. The ship uses up all of the parts (including even left over flowers that have no use in the house build), whereas the house build includes a lot of random extraneous 'stuff', like a water tower, a workbench (on which Emmett has constructed a micro model of the ship!), and a random fortification (presumably to fend off Duplo aliens?).

I'm under the impression that Lego designed the ship (for story purposes in the film), and then cobbled together 'post-apocalyptic' clutter out of the bits that couldn't be reasonably incorporated into a house.

Is her neck gear here an actual Lego element, or is it just pipe cleaner? I'm assuming it's the latter, but you just never know with Scala and such out there.

Customer site to office is 35 miles, 10 in central London, 25 on the M4. Took 2.5hrs to get back yesterday and only 30 minutes was the blast along the M4. Lucky its not an every day thing, because that wouldn't be awesome

So yesterday stopped at a Target that usually has new stuff in first.  Found LM2 packs in the check out aisles.  Based on the 2-3 per aisle it was clear only 1 box.  Found 5 of the ones I wanted and ran out of time.  Went back today and found the other 7 I wanted most.  Not sure yet if I'll get the other 8.  Do like the Oz ones so may get another set of those.  Had no issues checking out like I have in the past considering it's still before official release.

I found the double-bag had no impact on feel-ability.  May actually help narrow down knowing which actually have the second bag, though I didn't find that necessary.  Once you know the key things to look for, it's not bad at all.  A couple are close so good to go for second piece that distinguishes the two.  For instance, the dog and cat could be confused,  but I found Dorothy's hair is rubbery and scratch-n-post is not.  Find the 1x2 then next item will distinguish between the 3. etc.

Went to Kroger Marketplace across street.  Cardboard LM2 display by Lego that had few bags hanging.  Found rest of box on shelf next to it.  First time I recall this Kroger carrying CMF.

I also found some at a Target store today! They had 2 well picked through boxes with only a handful left in each. These were on the end cap of the toy aisle on top of other TLM2 sets. I quickly felt the packets and found 3 Crayon girls but not the Giraffe I was hoping for. I grabbed one Crayon and a random one which turned out to be the Watermelon, which seemed obvious once I got home, but not in the store.

@MegtheCat, I think we had the same shopping list! I got the giraffe and crayon today at Target myself, as well as a Dorothy to round out the Oz characters. My Target had 2 boxes out on the Lego aisle on a TLM2 endcap.

^When I come across another box I will keep looking for a giraffe. I'm usually only really good at finding the obvious ones by feel, i.e. the corn & banana costumes. There are plenty more Targets in my area, lol.

I freaking love her! I was really into her "random bricks" look from the get go, but the more I see of the character the more I really enjoy her. I feel like she might just replace Metalbeard as my favorite Lego Movie character once I've seen the film.

Found a pretty fresh box in a local supermarket. Had hoped to get the Oz set but they all felt the same to my fat fingers :(

Does anyone know when they'll be in UK Lego stores? I need help from an experienced feeler!

I mean, if done right I wouldn't be surprised if they did. It's not as though space pirates are a concept that nobody's ever taken an interest in… they're a pretty persistent trope throughout sci-fi movies, video games, TV shows, books, and comics, whether just in the sense of space criminals who engage in acts of piracy, or ones who actually feature sci-fi versions of all the motifs people associate with fictional pirates, like hooks, eyepatches, peg-legs, pet parrots/monkeys, and skull-and-crossbones insignias.

Plus, in general, a lot of genre-mashing sets/themes/MOCs tend to be more popular and successful than AFOLs give them credit for.

Has anyone got their free tickets through the post yet (the buy X Lego Movie sets, get two free tickets deal)? I'm US based - but heard nothing since I applied almost two weeks ago now.

@Mr_Hobbles I got an email the other day. I will need to click a link and enter a code to then get another code I can use on the Odeon (cinema chain) website to book the tickets, and presumably I then get another code or email or something to take to cinema to get the actual tickets. Email arrived more than 2 weeks after I uploaded the receipt of purchase. Need to check but think there’s a time limit on doing the above as well. I’ll probably go through it this evening and hopefully it’ll be straightforward.

I'm stoked - I bought 2 of the Oz minifigs from someone here on Brickset, but wanted the other 2 Oz, plus crayon, giraffe, Benny (that toolbox!), and maybe Emmet. The display looked fairly fresh (was a big box - I don't think that's how they shipped) and managed to feel to find them all! It was easy to tell which ones had the inner bag (was that just Dorothy and.. what was the 2nd one that has an inner bag?). I felt Toto (and seemed to recall that Dorothy had an inner bag, which I heard/felt), Emmet's coffee cup, crayon and giraffe were easy, I felt Benny's helmet, and the one that took me the longest was the tin man. I figured his pointy hat would be easy. I think it was just bad luck that it took a while to find one.

I got a scarecrow even though I have one in the mail, so if anyone wants to trade me, I'd like 30460 Rex's Plantimal Ambush.

Anyone tried the Lego Movie 2 Movie Maker set, or one of the previous Movie Maker sets? I got it, and wanted to get my son set up on it. Is it something that could be ported to a tablet instead of a phone? Are there other Lego stop motion applications that may be better?
