Help with Mr. Gold....

BoliramirezBoliramirez Member Posts: 1
Recently purchased an "Original Mr. Gold" on Ebay, for a seller that has good reputation, it came with the certificate, seems legit, also the minifigure looks legit, I has the pearl gold and lego marking where you assembly the head, also has the marking in the leg and where where you assembly the upper body... My question is with the staff it is really noticeable that it is not the original staff, as it has a more cooper/ gold color than the pale/gold that the minifigure has and it is red instead of pearl gold... also the diamond has bubbles in it, and I am not sure the original will have them and finally the top hat, it does have a marking on the inside (a number 7) but it seems that it is made of black resin and the gold plated/painted, can someone tell me if their top hat is like mine or not?  my guess is that the head, upper and lower body and the legs are legit, and the small part of the staff as well, but the long part of the staff, the diamond and the top hat are not legit... any input will be appreciated !!!

The diamond is almost certainly legit. Lots of small trans parts like lightsaber blades have bubbles. They are also so plentiful and cheap it would make no sense to try and make a fake one. As to the rest I am not an expert.

i'm no expert, certainly not with mr gold (my whitest of whales),  but that hole in the upper body looks like it could have come from being a keyring. i dont have a mr gold minifig so someone else may be able to confirm if this is supposed to be there.

    That hole is certainly suspicious...

I took some pics of my Mr Gold for you to compare! However, it is still in its packet. The staff is gold at the end though.

Mine is absolutely identical to @Adelec's.  My staff and connector have pearl gold ends also.  What worries me on the OP's is the hole through the torso and the general colour of him.  Mr Gold isn't solid yellow gold like all of the OP's parts. It's champagne gold ie. silvery gold with blemishes.  I cant help but thing it's fake.  :(

Boliramirez, are you able to provide additional pics to compare with @Adelec's?

Actually, looking at the torso, I think there is a hole in the top. I will try and take a pic.

How much is Mr. Gold going for these days? You didn't pay that much, did you? I don't have one but this kinda looks suspicious to me. Contact the seller if you have concerns

Pic through the sealed bag of top of torso. Sorry it’s not clearer.

Looks like all auctions and listings on bricklink and eBay have him going for north of $1500.  Would have been nice to invest in a few of those back in the day when he was going for $300-400!

^ Is anybody actually buying Mr Gold? Or is it just resellers cycling their stock amongst themselves, to keep the price apparently high?
Have there been any genuine lego collectors buying at more than $400?

I'm not sure that resellers 'cycle' their stock.  You'd have to pay the transaction fees.

It seems to have stabilized around $1500.00.  But, as with anything there are varying degrees of condition and provenance that would adjust the price.

    The red staff worries me.

This leads me to believe someone may have lost the original staff.

I stand corrected.  My torso has a slight ding in the top of the neck but not as a hole as such.  It could well be the lighting of the OP's that looks off so I think it probably just comes down to the staff.

it looks like they sprayed over the bar, and that the remaining bit is covered by the lightsaber hilt, maybe they made 2 different versions knowing that we won't see the difference on a built fig.
