Buy both. Or the one you like best if you cannot afford both. You'll have longer to buy any new UCS set coming out this year than the UCS Slave1.

Slave 1 is a great build, and I think everyone is putting money on either Cloud City or Star Destroyer as the next UCS for this year (unless I've misread the rumours.)

Close, but the big UCS set is expected to be the 2nd set of the year.  The first one is the 'smaller' $200 set, and what it will be is still up in the air :)

Star destroyer? What? I tought it was a y wing and cloud city who comes in 2018? I have never heard about a star destroyer.

^ Some people say ISD Autumn release, some say Cloud City. For me, ISD is more likely. We've had the mystery MF silhouette on one of the previous UCS boxes (Snowspeeder?) that came to fruition. Now MF has an ISD silhouette and its one of the early ones to redo. Cloud city is based purely on unsubstantiated rumour, ISD is based on box art (although TLG could just be messing with us).

Also there is a current Y-Wing in production (not UCS, but still) and the last ISD released (even non-UCS) has a very high resale value.  The is there / isn't there one in production might not be a factor, but the Y-Wing that's currently out in the market is selling somewhat slowly from what I've heard.  I'd be pretty shocked if we don't get a bigger ship this time, something more iconic.  And that first UCS ISD has been out of production for a very, very long time...

And I'm also curious where you heard that the spring UCS would be a Y-Wing?  I've seen no rumours to that effect at all...

There's been a lot of wish-mongering of the 'wouldn't it be awesome if?' variety as far as the Y-Wing goes.  I haven't seen anything more solid than that.  In my opinion, the Spring release is still pretty much totally up in the air.

The Cloud City rumors originated from one leaked list of Star Wars sets and prices which listed a 'Star Wars UCS CC $500' set.  The ONLY evidence so far for a Cloud City is that CC matches up with the first letters of Cloud City.  Prior to that, there were already rumors of an ISD floating around, and there is the silhouette that was found on the MilF box (see here) similar to how the MilF silhouette was on the new UCS DS box.  There is also the fact that LEGO likes to use code names for sets, and CC would be a terrible code name for a Cloud City set.

Anyways, I think there's a growing consensus that the large late summer/fall set will not be Cloud City, even if it's not actually an ISD either.
