Availability of Walmart Anniversary sets 4000028 4000029 4000030

There has been a bit of discussion about these sets in various threads, especially their value for money as they are $20 each.


Well, according to this reddit post (via brickfan) LEGO have confirmed that just 5000 of each have been made, so while they might not be worth $20 each, they will probably sell for 3-4 times that soon due to the lack of availability.

Since I'm not planning on getting rid of any of my LEGO until I'm dead I don't care about my sets resale value. To me they are not worth $20, and I have no interest in them. At $10 they may of been a nice display box, but I guess that doesn't matter now.

I got #4000 of the windmill. Apparently they don't even have a nice booklet inside or anything.

I saw the image that claims there were only 5000 produced also pop up on Reddit and dismissed the email as fake. In the third sentence, the font changes as if the email was edited. That being said I am curious about how many of these really were produced.

I love an exclusive as much as the next AFOL, perhaps more, but these are thankfully exclusives that I'm happy not to own. Honestly, we're getting the point where LEGO can badge any old rubbish as an exclusive, confident in the knowledge that it'll fly off the shelves in record time regardless.... $20 for these sets is bad enough, let alone $20 + scalper tax.

^Definite pass for me as well. Hey, at least this time nobody really seemed to be bragging about getting multiples of limited online exclusives.

Agreed. If they had the original molds to make the original parts of these sets, I would have been more interested. But using new parts to make old sets, but put them in old looking boxes? Pass.

There was a guy in the U.K. that was buying up a large amount of the  limited #41999 set, presumably to corner the market, well shortly after the bottom fell out on the price of the set and demand sunk to around retail for the set if I recall. Not sure anyone knows who that guy was, or how he did after that happened.

So, it's worth checking back this stuff.  Earlier today to I tried buying 4000030 online and saw that it was already sold out.  5 minutes ago I checked again and they had them for sale again.  Had been able to 4000029 similarly but not 4000028.

This guy gets it! I suspected something else would be pulled by Lego to justify the $20 price tag on these tributes to mediocrity. "LIMITED EDITION!" "ULTRA-RARE!" "ONLY 5000 MADE!" Ugh, I can read the eBay listings now. Even when it comes to Lego, which we can all agree makes very good toys, there is always opportunity for a fool and his money to part ways.

Yeah seems totally fishy to me. I mean this has nothing to do with Walmart really. It’s TLG deciding supposedly to only make 5,000 of something that otherwise could have been really nice for the masses to enjoy.

Just curious as i'm still pretty new to Lego, but how much do you think these would have cost if released 60 years ago? I know pricing then and now can't really be compared, but I was just curious. :)

is $2.35 US in 1958 = $20.06 US in 2018

If released in 1958, they would have had no collectibility surcharge, so if we say they should have sold for about $5 today, that means maybe 60 cents in 1958.

Cute sets but without booklet and at those prices I agree with the above posters and it's a pass for me.

I'm more interested to hear if there is a plan to release these outside if the US. Usually the promotional sets that show up in Walmart and the likes end up turning up as [email protected] promotions in the UK at some point. I wonder if that'll be the case here.
