Best way to get a bunch of clone troopers?

haydukehayduke Member Posts: 55
My son has suddenly requested a “clone army” for his upcoming birthday. Unfortunately we only got back into (Star Wars) Lego a couple years ago long after it seems Clone Minifigs were common, so I don’t know where to begin.

By “army” I think he’d love 10-20 if it doesn’t break the bank. I know some Clones are highly collectible, we would be more interested in the opposite. The most generic, bland, white clones preferred.

Any advice on where to begin? What minifig might be the cheapest to Bricklink? I saw the clone battle pack but it looks like it runs about $20 for 4 clones which seems a tad steep.

Had a search for 'Clone Trooper' & the one that appears in most sets is #sw201
Bricklink prices are about $2-3 but the best prices I could see for 10+ were around $5 each

Any restriction on whether the clones need to be Phase I, Phase I (Clone Wars), or Phase II? I think sw126 (basic Phase II) can go pretty cheaply with the right seller, sometimes in bulk for less than around $3.50 per fig. sw201 is a good call though and perhaps easier to find the sellers for in bulk. I think sw201 became particularly cheap in the UK due not only to its inclusion in more sets and battle packs, but also being attached to the front of a kids magazine at £3 or £4.

You may also want to check the individual piece prices.  20 helmets of one Clone Trooper, 20 torsos of another, 20 pants of another, and then using generic black head pieces -  may be cheaper that looking for 20 complete minifigs.

Granted, the uniforms may not be perfect, but you're just lookin' for an army!

I think going the pieces route keeps the cost down to $1.50 a figure.  Not factoring in shipping.

And if you went with generic white legs, that'd be cheaper.

Just a heads up there is a phase 1 clone battle pack releasing later in the summer, that should be a good way to mass troops. Sadly it only comes with 2 and 2 jedi.

To the bricklink point, if they have a couple of one clone available, they may have more of others. Spend some time looking through individual sellers and you might find one with several varieties that add up to 10-20 clones.

Hey thanks for the tips everyone! sw201 does look to have the largest inventory, but to get 10-20 from a single buyer is looking like $4.50/per... which might be more than I'd like to spend. Let me take a look at buying parts individually.
