Cloud City Calrissian Cape Conundrum

EelesyEelesy Member Posts: 61
hi there, I have a weird question bugging me at the moment and was hoping someone could put my mind at rest - this may be in the wrong section so feel free to move!

Im currently after the minifigures from the Cloud City set and in my research a lot of the time the Lando figure seems to come with no cape, or a replica cape. Was there some issue with the cape? Was it fragile? Persisted easily? I’ve never encountered a figure which seems to be missing a cape or comes with a replica, and it has piqued my interest.

thanks in advance.

The figures listed on BL are for the most part used.  Being used, they probably lost their capes or their capes were damaged during play. That's why they are missing. This being a rare piece, some sellers might have sold the cape off separately to make more money and are now stuck with a figure with no cape or are selling the figure with an after market repro cape.

Competent counsel contributing compelling cape commentary.  Congrats!
Thank you both for your reply, I guess if being a unique cape made it pricey. Fantastic alliteration to haha!

This sounds more like a "caped crusader commentary" from the TV series.

(I premptively apologize for derailing this thread.  But I have no sense of restraint... sometimes.)

A few years ago, lots of the torsos and heads appeared on BL, from a USA bulk seller rather than the usual German ones. LEGO apparently got rid of loads of them, some factory damaged. It wouldn't surprise me if many of the new ones are these parts resurfacing, sold as the genuine minifigure but without the cape or with fake ("custom") capes.

There is a rumour we may get a new cloud city this year, so you might want to wait and see if that's true, before paying for older figs.

This is my concern, but I still love that CC Boba and need him for the collection XD Just don't feel comfortable paying £275 for him!

Ughhh all my Harry Potter capes with stars are torn. As well as some of my black capes and the cool batcape from #76044. I think it's a common prob with capes, so I try to be careful with mine now.

@Brixfan02: you had the same problem? Mine ripped and I complained to Lego. They sent me a new one and removed all the rest from the sets.

My Wizard from Series 12 has a very frayed cape, but other than that and the ripped Batcape, I've never had a cape be really messed up. The frayed cape actually looks kinda cool.

Those capes are mostly from really old HP sets. I thought about asking lego for a replacement batman cape, but never got around to it

Still got a couple Star Capes surviving! Frilled on the edges - but surviving

@FowlerBricks - so you're the reason I had to ask Lego CS for a cape? :-) They were rather reluctant to give me one, but when I have them a code from the box as proof of purchase they relented. I have not yet put it on Batman, for the reasons being mentioned above..

The Batman capes were fine, it was putting the armour over the top that damaged them.

^ Yeah, my son has this set too and I thought it looked a little wonky when the armour went on. He wasn't bothered though, so I wasn't either. I'm a little more careful with my own Lego.

The cape will actually go on fine if you fold it correctly. I folded it right and I can take the cape and armor off without it ripping again.

^ I'm gonna need to check my cape at home and see if it is ok or damaged.

Thanks! It's my selfie with Spider-man. I'm doing a photo series on Google+ with my sig-fig hunting for selfies.

I have had 10123 since it came out and my cape is still as crisp as one you might find in a brand new, unopened set. Albeit the minifig has never exactly been handled to a point that any noticeable damage might occur. That having been said, assuming the cape has been handled appropriately over time, it should have maintained its integrity.

Lando was one of my favorite figs, and I never had the cape. WahWahWah! Wish I had found a cape I could afford. His fig was a real breakthrough, especially the colors. Not into Star Wars, but I love Lando! The unusual capes make it so difficult to collect complete figs.
