Fact: Next (not) UCS set to be Cloud City
So according to Mandrproductions on YouTube the next UCS set is going to be Cloud City, and will retail for $500. According to his source this is maybe a replacement for the Death Star and will be a large play set. In the video he then goes on about the various potential options.
Personally if this is the case and the next UCS will be another play set I am very happy to skip it and save my money. The Death Star didn’t and hasn’t interested me and it is just an expensive regular set.
What at do you guys think? Is this great news as they are doing something fans have wanted for a while? Or is this a swing and a miss?

'Here's where Luke Hangs' and 'The landing pad' and 'Carbonite Chamber' and have it just be a mess of small nothings.
What Cloud City really needs (deserves) is to just keep doing sets about the size of last years Carbonite Freezing Chamber. That was a fantastic little size/price, so more of those individually to make Cloud City rather than a huge set would be ideal.
I agree this would need to be a complete play set and not like Assult on Hoth just a group of things.
It certainly remains to be seen whether they can turn Cloud City into something as cohesive as the Death Star, given its more limited screen time and less regular shape. But at the very least, I imagine they can do a heck of a lot better than the original Cloud City set.
And the ISD will replace the Tie fighter or Slave I.
I assume this rumour relates to 'CONFIDENTIAL_DTC CC –75222'?
'CC' - I'm thinking 'Cash Cow' or perhaps I'm just getting cynical in my old age!
But, a Cloud City or new Star Destroyer would be very nice, indeed :-)
$500? Eh. The Death Star costs $500 in the US, whereas in Sweden it costs 5499 SEK, which equates $670. A $250 price tag would have been more justified in my opinion, due to the release of the $1000 Falcon.
...I was planning to build a UCS Cloud City in 2018...

They even made an action figure of him at one point. It’s definitely time for a minifig version. Long live Willrow Hood!
For the $200 set, I actually haven't even seen any solid rumors. There were y-wing rumors for a little bit, but there was no backing for them, they were just people going "I'd like to see a y-wing re-release sometime soon!" So I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what it will be, although if forced I WOULD guess that, with a release of a new build of an old favorite likely in the fall, and with two 'revamps' in last years lineup, this years smaller UCS set is likely to be a new ship or scene that we haven't seen before in the UCS lineup. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see something from Rogue One or The Force Awakens, and I would be least surprised to see Ren's shuttle, Rogue One itself, or a UCS U-Wing in that spot. But again, there's absolutely nothing to back any of that up except rampant speculation.
My hope, and it is just that, would be that we get a Tantive 4 “Corellian Corvette/Blockade Runner” the original UCS was from 2001 with the 2009 model being smaller and with less parts. Plus pairing this with an Imperial Star Destroyer makes sense.
Although if they do a cloud city playset at least my attention won’t be distracted from saving for the Falcon
- Duel on Naboo
- Duel on Geonosis
- Palpatine's Arrest
- Final Duel
Plus we have the Throne Room set from Last Jedi coming this summer. (And the Anakin's starfighter set from a few years ago included a couple of Mustafar droids and Obi-Wan and Anakin figs to recreate the scene.)
This leaves only a couple of iconic duel scenes left:
- Episode IV Obi-Wan and Darth Vader (add in a mechanical closing Death Star door for "Blast the door, kid!" effect,
- Episode VII Kylo, Finn, and Rey in the snow on Starkiller Base (completely unnecessary, but an easy enough way to package some desired figs), and of course...
- Episode V Luke and Vader battle on Bespin. The set could be another $25 set with just the gantry for the final scene. Or it could be slightly larger and include the room with the destroyed window that Luke falls through as well. I'm envisioning something that looks not unlike the old Kenner Micro Collection sets and perhaps connects in a similar way.
Since we already got a smaller version of the Carbon-Freeze Chamber, I could live with this. And it seems like it should be in the pipeline if only because of the continued production of other "duel" sets.
the duel against dooku and between yoda and sidious in episode 3 are both missing too.
but that the most popular duel have never been made is really surprising. oh wait, it was in cloud city, I think? guess it should come with a "I am your father" sound brick lol
