Have you tried this official one #42050?

    https://brickset.com/sets/42050-1/Drag-Racer

Does it need to be custom? What have you built in the past? Big or small? etc.

Plus a word of warning, you are likely to get a ban if you keep posting threads with no real content in, just asking for something with no parameters given as to what you are after.

Maybe instead of asking a single question with little to no context, give some context and some idea of what exactly you're getting by adding more details.

    How would I do that.

I've closed your other posts because, as I've replied via the helpdesk, I felt the questions were just too vague and not really anyone can help with succinctly.

If you can be more explicit and precise with your questioning then someone nay be able to help but otherwise suggest you just google it, as I have for you:

    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=engine+for+a+custom+lego+technic+drag+car&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjgy-LCvpTYAhXnK8AKHdDZDv0Q_AUIDCgD&biw=2544&bih=1290

It sounds as if you have lots of projects on the go. Why not concentrate on one and ask more specific questions? We have experts here but they are not prepared to write an essay in response to a one-liner  question like that above.

Hi! If I could offer some constructive criticism: Your posts tend to be one or two short sentences asking about solutions which would require a lengthy reply to properly answer. That's a massive overhead for forum members to address. You may have noticed that replies to your posts have been rather short. You would get a better reply if you give more information as to what you have done already, what other research you are doing elsewhere on the internet, what instructions or MOCs you have looked at for inspiration, and generally made the signal to noise ratio a bit higher. Multiple posts asking essentially the same thing in short questions will tend to just disappear. Posters who don't change their approach tend to follow them. You may have noticed I have written quite an essay here, because I am trying to give you as much information as I can. You need to do the same! :-)

    Hope this helps.

I am looking into making a custom Lego technic car the first part of the build I was going to think about a nice detailed engine and then obviously the chassis would need to be made. What would the best part to start the build. As I progress on with the build I would post photos and info on the stages in which I would have built the custom model but I am looking for the best way to start the  build.

I see what you mean. More detail and context about the project that I am doing and concentrate on one build at a time and ask more detailed questions so that its easier for members to understand what it is that I am doing.

Yup. You have cracked the mystery of making a good forum thread!

@Legobuilder178 - my first advice is to check existing Technic models for something similar to what you are trying to achieve. You can then adapt to make it closer to what you want. You need to consider your current skillset and available pieces (or budget). Brickset (not the forum, the actual site) has a search function which may help find the best match:
    https://brickset.com/search
After that, have a think and return to the forum with some ideas and we can take it from there. You get out what you put in.
Also, I am not a Technic expert, so it's unlikely I'll be able to help more, but there are others who can, if they have the time. :-)

Mosey around this forum for a while:

    https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/forum/115-lego-technic-mindstorms-model-team/

Lots of good ideas for you here.
  • Legobuilder178Legobuilder178 Member Posts: 54
Yeah. I am going to have a good look around for a few ideas and the set which matches the closest to what I want.  I will then work out my budget and parts which I have, then I will be able to work out what extra parts or pieces are needed.

This is what I've come up with so far. if you think it can be improved please send me some tips on how to improve the chassis before I progress onto the engine.

If you're trying to make a dragster, wouldn't the two front wheels be smaller than the back ones?

I know. It was just a set I put on to make sure they all line up, plus I'm still wondering if im better of making a car with the chassis I have made, as I'm not sure whether I have two larger wheels.

Have a look at #42050 Drag Racer. Instructions can be found by following the link to the Brickset.com page for the set.

(putting the "#" in front of a set number will create a link to the set on Brickset.com)

I've seen that set. I would prefer it to be custom.

I recommend you have a look at Sariel's pages, especially those on steering. This one is good for more realistic steering where you don't move the entire wheel in an arc.

Do you have two smaller ones?
  • Legobuilder178Legobuilder178 Member Posts: 54
No. That is the smallest I've got. I am looking into getting some more wheels though.

    @Legobuilder178

Hi.  While it's entirely reasonable to ask forum members how to solve a particularly thorny build problem that you're stuck on - there's always a new technique to learn - often the best way to learn is by just trying things out.  You learn as much from things that don't work as things that do.

If you're going to build a MOC but stop every couple of hundred bricks and ask for feedback / what to do next, then a) you're probably going to start annoying people after a while, and b) it's going to take a you a very long time to finish!

Experiment!  People have suggested a few things but you've said you don't have the right parts - so just build with what you've got to hand.  If you like the way something turns out, then great.  If you don't, make a note of it because it might come in handy for something else.  And the great thing about Lego is that you don't have to start again from scratch.  If your chassis is good but the engine isn't, you just swap the engine out and start again.

There are any number of resources out there, from existing sets like the Drag Racer that @datsunrobbie pointed out, to resources like Sariel's website ( @CCC gave you a link), and I'd add his Unofficial Technic Builders Guide as a great resource too.

I'm not trying to put you off asking questions - people will always try and help if they can - but don't be afraid to just get stuck in and try a few ideas of your own first!

    Happy building!

Okay. I'll find out how to delete my account, as I'm not much use to anyone.
