Which sets at TRU are NOT grossly overpriced?

So I have $60 in TRU rewards dollars I need to use by Jan 13th, plus another $120 in gift cards that I wouldn't mind using up. For the rewards dollars, they HAVE to be used in-store.

Which sets are NOT grossly overpriced. I'd love to get the Super Heroes stuff, but that's already marked up.

When I went to my local TRU, they had the 4427 Fire ATV for $5.99 (retail price). I think they marked it up to $6.99 now. Basically every set is marked up.

Look at my post about the pet shop, it's going for the 150 it sells for everywhere... Plus free shipping and $15 off

I think he wants in store only...I haven't seen the Pet Shop at my TRU.

Ooooh - the Pet Shop gave me a great way to use up those gift cards - DONE with them. Total cost of Pet Shop: $93.

I suppose I will head over to TRU tomorrow to see what I can blow the $60 rewards dollars on.

    Thanks!

I had $5.00 in rewards which were due to expire 12/31. I found the 7937 Train Station, which I believe is a TRU exclusive. It's MSRP is $49.99, but TRU has it marked up to $54.99. My rewards brought it down to MSRP, plus they have the $10 off $50 going on. So I picked it up for $39.99 (which is probably what that set should cost anyway). There really was not much else on the shelves that wasn't obscenely overpriced.

I'm saving my other Rewards and gift cards for CMFs (hopefully) or a BOGO.

@brickupdate - you may be able to call and use your "in store only" Rewards dollars. I've heard of varied success doing that.

I plan to do that if my LEGO store doesn't get anything in stock in the next two weeks. The normal 2 full aisles of LEGO are basically crammed down into less than 1/2 of one side of an aisle.

I don't buy anything at TRU except LEGO, and they can look at my Rewards account history to confirm that ;)

I just saw the ad for next week. The only LEGO on sale is 25% off games.

^^ Me too on saving for the CMF's but if they don't get them before Lego store does, then I will get them there and use my rewards on something else.

Sets are often retail when stocks first come in, so the Friends sets will probably be retail on Sunday.

Maybe by looking at Lego's website???

Check over you points stuff too. I went in today to use them all and it turned out that I could only use half the points they gave me and half later. And now I just realized they never gave me my $10 off $50 too.

TRU should be free to do whatever they like with pricing. I feel we should be responsible for ourselves and figure out whether their deals are good or not. But, I really dislike TRU's pricing practices. And now this rewards thing really ticked me off.

Anyone stop at a TRU yet today to see if Friends are on shelves?
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
@sidersdd I may stop by later today. My TRU tends to stock their shelves mid-day. They aren't rushed to get it all out there, as they would at the LEGO Store.

i'm heading to my TRU in about 30 minutes to check on friends. On their website, they have 1 set (treehouse) under RRP, 3 of them over (Cafe, Vet, Convertible), and the rest are currently at RRP.

I think the 3677 is still $160 (retail), if you do not have one already.
If you have one of those massive TRU superstores they may have exclusives like Pet shop, GW, etc, but that is it, I think most sets are overpriced, grossly is some cases...
Its really sad when price increases are so common place at TRU now that a thread has to be made about what sets are not GROSSLY overpriced.

I'm guessing the Series 6 will be 4 bucks a pack when they show up at TRU
TRU can do what they want though.. if they want to increase prices in a bad economy and make more people go to places like Amazon, Walmart, and Target for their LEGO prices, then so be it. The trouble is people are still buying at TRU even with the bad prices.

I'm guessing once the 10% reward coupons expires then the prices will mysteriously fall back to normal.
If this is the case, my question is: Why bother having 'rewards' like this if TRU is only going to raise the prices to counter act the rewards earned?

local TRU didn't have Friends out yet - neither did the Target. LEGO store did have new mini modulars, joust, and all 14 Friends sets.

A Walmart by me had 'Friends' out on an Island display by the toy section, but with Walmart who knows when something is supposed to be out for sale or not...
