Brickheadz,
more to the point Brickheadz that are city themed, you take a random city (or any theme) mini fig, and make a brick head from him, then when you do the GWP you add that mini fig in with the brickheadz so it can be displayed side by side.
Rare/unique minifigs from any of their non-licensed, story-based themes would rock too.
Heck if they made supplementary polybag promos to coincidence with the launch of a D2C set, that would be awesome. i.e. A couple mini cars to add on to the tower bridge, or a Friends are Family version of Alfred to coincide with the launch of The Joker Manor. Something of that ilk.
When it comes to the Christmas promos, LEGO should stick with the tchotchkes. Make 2 of them instead of just doing another one of those boring, pseudo Advent Calendar 24-in-1 sets. Maybe stick in a special Holloween tchotchke promo during October for good measure.*
Other than that, maybe make it so that most polybag sets that aren't exclusive to the LEGO Stores/[email protected] can be more accessible.
*And if I have the Ambassadors' attention, please bring up the idea of a Holloween town series, in the vein of the Winter Village sets to the Designers.
Additionally, I also rather like small sets that are very complimentary to one or more of the 'big' sets available at the time - like the Creator fountain #40221 that fits in nicely with the general modular town theme, or perhaps more obviously the annual Christmas sets.
What I'm less fond of is the more generic sets - I'm pretty good already for tiny police or fire ATVs for example - but at the same time I appreciate that they make good spot prizes for the kids!
- always a promotion on (with spend over threshold)
- polybag sets for themes, boxed sets near Xmas
- theme changes between months (Super Heroes, Friends, City, etc)
- or maybe have a choice between promos, so if you don't like City or Friends, you can select the other
- extra promotions with specific sets
- extra promotions for May 4th, etc
But i would also like to see polybags that specifically relate to/enhance existing sets. so an easy example would be a Millennium Falcon bag with a round dish and a maybe droid, which would allow a person to convert the Force Awakens System Falcon to an OT Falcon (just like it's very, very big brother model).
But this could be for any set in any theme and might allow additional elements and play features to be added to a set that didn't make the first cut due to pricing constraints etc.
I also like @CCC's suggestion of letting people choose between two themes, and the ideas several people mentioned of doing more with classic Space/Pirates/Castle, and more mini versions of iconic sets. I'm very fond of #11910 which came with the Great Lego Sets book, for instance.
I don't care much for gifts like the Easter chicken guy or the Iconic Cave - it's obviously nice to get anything free, but with CMFs so readily available they're not the kind of thing that make me go out of my way to order with [email protected] in a particular month, whereas with the Creator Fountain I was eagerly planning my order as soon as I heard it was coming.
I would love to see more little builds that compliment other sets. Ones I think that would work rather well:
Boy and arcade machine
Girl and chemistry set
Rebel general and a small computer similar to those seen on Yavin Base
Picnic couple
Dog walker
Couples tree - two minifigs and a small park build with a couple of stickers with initials carved in tree. (although this seems unlikely based on previous vinettes)
Ice Cream vendor
Street vendor - selling various bits of cheap tat.
Star wars - mini-builds - like the larger mini-builds from the magazine {or somwhere between the size of these and the microfighters} - similar for other super hero themes....; also more builds like the buildable R2, perhaps a mini BB-8, or mini C-3PO...
Advanced models - some side-shows/street vendors to compliment the larger fair ground rides...
I'm not a CMF person - so would prefer not to see those..., and exclusive mini-figs are great but they often aren't really exclusive...
Non-theme specific builds - but useful parts - mini-tree builds {similar style to Ewok village build but smaller} .... again great for adding to other scenarios...
As opposed to offering suggestion on what I'd like to see. I'd propose that the GWP offered by Lego online or at Lego Stores are exclusive to them only and not other retailers. More of an incentive. In addition perhaps better quality items; over the years I've acquired a small collections of sets that I don't want and I really should just open up a Bricklink store and sell them off.
They could be released with modulars to expand the city.
So another idea ... have a series of small pods for different themes, so a Friends one, and Elves one, a City one, a SW one etc. All pods in different colours. One given out one month, another done in the next month, and so on.
And even better, make the pods lego-like so that they could be connected together via studs on the sides or faces.
They would be collectable if done in multiple colours (which helps with people coming back for more), but also kids love little things like this to carry around a small toy when they go to grandparents and such like. Making them connectable would mean they could take a few more figures and parts.
And make them exclsuive to LEGO.
However, here's how I think they should do it. At a $75 purchase you should get one bag a 5-6 pieces of the same part in a color previously unavailable. At $125 you should get two bags. And at $150 you get three.
Instead of being a promotion that only runs for a month or so, it should be an ongoing promotion that lasts for a quarter of the year or something. At the end of the quarter, they rotate the promotion to a new piece in a previously unavailable color.
It'd be a great way of adding new colors to the market.
Brand characters - ala Lester from Leicester Square
Minifig people in event/promotional clothing - i.e. a minifigure kid with a Star Wars shirt
More mini sets that supplement large releases - ala 40108 Balloon Cart, 40140 Flower Cart
International minifigures that represent different nations, include accessories associated with their nation, etc
More classic sets - Classic Spaceman, Classic Pirate and Classic Knight are among my top favorites
Regional variations in offers helps drive secondary market demand which Lego could easily take advantage of themselves. Everyone should have the potential to acquire the GWP at the time of release, not a select audience (there's been plenty of times when I've seen a great month for NA and a poor one for the UK/Europe which has significantly swayed my decision on buying from Lego directly).
At present the holiday GWP are some of the best available including the 40223-1: Snowglobe from last year. Such GWP encourage me to buy from Lego themselves rather than elsewhere even if it may be cheaper. If the GWP is of high enough quality and appeal then the encouragement is there to buy from Lego rather than other retailers.
Also, I would love it if licensed minifigs (Star Wars, Super Heroes) came with something small to build as well. Not like the Captain America Motorcycle, more like how the minidolls are packaged with a small scene. Remember the Azari one that came with a tree and bench over lava? Or the Rapunzel that came with the cart? Something like that.
A Rebel Marine is cool, but a Rebel Marine with a bulkhead to take cover behind is awesome! Luke Cage with a 125th Street sign? Yes please!
I really like the idea of polybags which complement a major new release--this year, it seems there was a major new release every month, so that would have meant an interesting GWP every month as well. Micro versions of buildings or big vehicles are fun to display next to the full-size model (or instead of it if the budget doesn't stretch far enough). I don't much like polybags with single minifigures, but add in a tiny build or a really well-thought-out accessory and I'd be a lot more excited. And I wouldn't object to a few more reissues of early series CMFs, to be honest.
Lately the packaging has become more interesting than the contents in several cases, though. I'm not sure I like that.
*Microscale Ninjago City modular building (unless it already exists)
*Microscale Star Wars Invisible Hand
*Microscale Star Wars Droid Control Ship
*1978-style Police Car with Policeman with stickered torso (60th anniversary)
*Microscale Star Wars Graballa's Ship
*Microscale Star Wars Arrowhead
*Microscale Star Wars StarScavenger
*Morgan Lux (add-on for Ultra Agents collectors)
*Alien Queen (add-on for Mars Mission collectors)
*Spaceman Five-Pack (includes the five classic spacemen for the 60th anniversary)
*Microscale Ninjago Destiny's Bounty
*Exclusive Star Wars Minifigures, such as Governor Price, Admiral Konstantine, Bendu, Seventh Sister with Probe Droid, or Wick Cooper
*If LEGO still has the Doctor Who license, then Davros, the Master, or the Thirteenth Doctor (off topic: we need a Doctor Who CMF series)
*If LEGO still has the Sonic the Hedgehog license, then Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds or Tails' Mini Tornado (off topic: we also need a Sonic CMF series)
Hopefully this isn't too much to ask for. :)
Winter village
- a chimney that you can drop Santa and presents down
- a 'photo with Santa' stall
(A WV full set with ski lift, cable car and chalet would be nice in future!)
Town
- a set of street furniture: road signs, traffic lights etc
- a set of trees and flowers
- a rollerskating rink for the park
- swings, slides, seasaw etc for the park
- a seaside set with ice cream stall, punch and judy, deckchairs, seagulls
(A minifig scale funfair, cheaper than the Creator sets would be VERY welcome)
- funfair attractions, including popcorn/hotdog/novelty hats stall, (handcranked) funfair shooting gallery, water jets etc (loved the ones on the TV programme)
Misc
- more themed money boxes
Minifigs
- would love a LOTR Sauron
- anything Doctor Who: Cybermen battle pack, full set of Doctors etc
- classic London minifigs set (Beefeater, Palace guard, British policeman, Sherlock)
Classic Castle
- a series of vignettes with Knights, Blacksmiths, King&Queen, Jester, jousts etc
Egyptian
- vignette of mummies and adventurers, scorpions etc
Seasonal
-Haunted house scene with ghost, skeleton, trap doors, revolving wall, creepy paintings etc
I'd like to see the same promotions offered everywhere at the same time. I don't like having to buy stuff from bricklink just because it was never offered in my corner of the world.
As far as polybags/boxes go:
- maybe a themed and recoloured selection of CMFs, like the caveman/woman. I'd like to see themed packs like Roman, Greek, Aquatic, Space,...
- proper mini scenes like the fountain, balloon cart, winter village add-ons (3300014-1),...
Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but isn't this what LEGO really has already been doing though?
- IMO LEGO has been fairly good with promos this year. Every month it seems like something is going on.
-Polys usually are the standard, and LEGO has been giving away boxes at Christmas
-Themes do change (though maybe they could be more frequent)
-LEGO makes far more if you buy x or y, or both so you can get both promos. Though I think they should maybe reduce the X purchase to get the poly. Polys are not expensive, they should be had with a lower 'threshold' IMO (like more 15-30 USD and you get the promo)
- They do occasionally have promos that stack, especially online (as stores already do this...though I think they should do more of this 'overlapping' especially if it appears they have more of a promo even though the event 'ran out'- like what apparently occurred with the caveman/woman set when Force Friday started online)
- I could have sworn they are doing extra promos this year of May the 4th, or maybe Im just thinking they did because of Force Friday with the post and figure)
-They need to find a way to stop people from getting more than 2-3 of these promos though. LEGO says they want to stop resellers/'bulk buyers', but when you see someone selling 50 of a promo that was at LEGO's site for only a few days, you have to wonder how serious LEGO really is with their limits.
To be honest, I think sets like #40170 should have been a giveaway with purchase of a city set of x dollars, for example.
Like sets or figures that compliment the themes they represent like when the DO came out and had the Flower cart with purchase of city of X dollars.
Maybe that is an idea for LEGO: Poly offers that run with the run with the production of a set. It would definitely help the stores and online with sets that typically are not discounted and give them an 'edge' over a retailer selling the same set. So with the Classic batcave you always get a Mr Freeze poly with its purchase, same with sets like the Beetle, Camper van, and Cooper getting their tiny counterparts.
My idea (which admittedly I have posted to another LUG) is for modern takes on some of the small classic sets.
so use old classic sets as the inspiration and make a completely new set based on that
e.g
#885 #886 #889 for classic space
#6010 #6023 #6012 #6017 for castle
#6234 #6235 #1970 for pirates
#6712 #6791 for Western
My thinking is that the classic themes will help placate the AFOLs who vocally complain about the lack of their favourite themes and could add more minifigures -e.g new colours for classic space minifigures like the Exo-Suit. Also I imagine that it's the sort of thing a lot of LEGO designers would enjoy and they could also be used to gauge interest in classic themes.
- Mini versions of larger sets
- Consistency of offers globally
- Mini builds to compliment existing themes
- Option to buy a couple of additional promos
Would like to add
- Standardisation of thresholds, seems to be quite random at the moment. So e.g. a free polybag would be for a £25 spend, boxes £50. Maybe additional random gifts for larger spends. I've sometimes had a random poly included with a [email protected] order which is always a welcome surprise!
- I struggle to find polybags in local stores so would like to see more in Lego stores / [email protected] for general sale but even better if they were a GWP. Thinking of ones like the chameleon this year or last years reindeer
- Enjoyed the calendar vouchers this year so would like to see those again with a random selection of gifts
- Mini buildings like the ones from Bricktober. Either unique or small versions of modular / creator / WV
- Monthly mini build / pick a model packs including past models
Any set like this which can be incorporated into a larger scene while also working as a stand alone set, although difficult, is an excellent give away.
- End the annoying geo-spread of GWPs; it's one thing to have them time-separated (yet that's annoying too), it's a lot worse if things simply do not come to a certain region at all
- More pods, they're awesome!
- I loved the "Classic" sets (space man, knight, pirate) - though I'm not sure which others could be made... Classic Paradisa? ;-)
- "Creator" poly gifts to go with modulars like the flower or balloon carts, or extra fairground polys to go with the ferris wheel/carousel/...
- Make sure there's a promo all the time - right now the EU (at least BE) state of affairs is sad. There are some in-store-only(-with-voucher) promos but...
- This was the first year I had a calendar with vouchers; more please! Brings me to the store more often, daughter was so happy with her gifts!
