What are peoples thoughts on the new Mos Eisley set inside a table with the MilF?

Will the 'scale' of the two be right? The base of any display then mainly tan bricks, as sand?
I think you'll be looking at a pretty big table!

Although it probably won't be too far off in terms of scale.  They're both approximately 8" tall.  It'll be interesting to see them side by side.

The scale probably won't be right, but I think it could still look very good. The big problem is going to be that the two sets will require quite a large table for both to fit, especially if you want the cantina to be open so you can see the interior.

Maybe instead of a coffee table/display case, it could be a ping pong table/display case :)

For those of you who made coffee tables, what thickness glass did you use for the top? And is it regular, or tempered?

You should always use tempered or laminated - safety.

I haven't made coffe table it but I think 6mm should be fine.

When I was researching this -- still haven't actually moved toward purchase or construction -- most sites seemed to recommend 1/2" for a "large" table top, while 1/4" is ok for something under 24" diameter. I would personally air on the side of overly robust for the top, but that's just me being really cautious. But anything over 1/2" is overkill even for me, assuming it's a well-supported top and you're not going with an extremely oversized table, relative to the Falcon.

I would definitely suggest tempered glass.

Here's the table and the span I'll need. Giving the glass about an extra inch on all 4 sides so that it slots into the groove I'm going to rout into the lid means the glass is gonna be 32.5"x41". I'm thinking 3/8" tempered. I don't really want to do half inch thick as the lid will be 1x4s which are 3/4" thick so routing a groove a half inch deep, plus probably a little more so the glass is inset well, leaves very little 1x4 left.

Think 3/8" tempered will do it?

I think 3/8" you'd be fine. That's 8-9 mm on this side  of the pond. 1/2" I think is overkill.
Don't forget the weight difference between different thicknesses to your required size.

    Although IMHO to that above.

Glass is ordered. Went with 3/8" thickness. 3-4 weeks, so plenty of time to make the lid that it'll sit in. Pics to follow hopefully soon.

Then finish tiling the docking bay floor and finally build the Falcon!

Slightly out of context, but i feel relevant. I built myself a new desk area for my home office, that glass on top of the base desk. I went for 6mm, as it will have tea and coffee, my laptop (ad cats jumping on it). As people have said, tempered for sure. Also, if its going to be exposed, make sure you get dubbed edges. If its going to 'sit' in a frame and not be exposed, no need to worry

Yes, it is tempered. 3/8" = 9.53mm so that should be plenty given the 8mm suggestion seems to be the go-to.  The frame it's going to sit in is partially made: the groove is routed and I need to attach the 4 sides once I finish staining them. Then there will be a second, thin layer of wood on top so that the glass is sandwiched. I'll run a strip around the edge to cover the seam between the two layers, then it's done. By the time it gets here in 3-4 weeks, plus a day to piece the lid all together, it'll be just in time for the week off from teaching for Winter Break that I'll build the Falcon in.  I'm thinking two 10-hour build days.

I'm going to get an acrylic case made for mine. I've been quoted about £60 and it'll be ready two working days after I confirm the order.

£60 seems remarkably cheap for that. The equivalent from other places I've seen is about £150 or more.

Glass is acquired and top is almost done. Need to get thin strips to cover the seam between the two layers of the wood of the top that sandwich the glass. Then give the inside a good vacuum, tile the rest of the floor with 8x16s, and it's time to build the Falcon.

Has anyone seen an off-the-shelf table that works for #75192 available in the last couple years?

I think I'm finally adding this set to my collection.

I think you can find some on Wayfair or similar that will work ok-ish, but nothing that, IMO, is quite what most of us are probably looking for.

iDisplayIt does have one that's made entirely out of acrylic which looks good for what it is, but I don't think it's the style most people would prefer.
