Without having the numbers in front of me, something tells me both the UCS MF and the re-released Taj Mahal each have greater profit margins than a new modular would. A new modular would have a substantial overhead cost for design and development. The Taj Mahal, being a straight re-release, would therefore make more profit per unit sold.
With the price of the UCS MF, even with the "Disney tax", I wouldn't be surprised if each MF sold was like selling 5 modulars. There's no reason LEGO wouldn't prioritize those two sets over a new modular and push back the release to March - the modular series fan base will still buy it and they likely wouldn't lose much in sales.
I haven't build brick bank and haven't even bought Ninjago City or Assembly Square...
I guess it wont be cinema/bank/town hall. Maybe a grocer/a cafe/a restaurant?
He is not allowed to go further. I tried...sorry...
That would be nice.
CC is pretty outdated not only because it has no interior, so a new hotel with restaurant makes more sense than a re-release of CC.
But Green Grocer is a good re-release candidate with just small updates later on :)
Is that a boxer? So maybe fitness on second floor :) Might as well be a corner building.
I can see stairs there leading to fitness centre on first floor :)
Seriously though, this is exactly what I wanted to see! Nice one TLG!
Another car too... shame about that. The building looks nice though.
The image comes from a Chinese website that features a clone brand’s logo in the same article.
Take the news with a pinch of salt, though I should mention that, if it is legit, that I’m perfectly contented with it. Quite charming, actually.
so many questions, firstly is it just me or is the actual building (excluding the staircase) only 26 studs wide? and also dont the 2 floors behind the 'diner' sign seem a little basic for a modular?
whatever the answers its intriguing
A small additional detail that I really like is that the first level reminds me of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks:
My sole complaint would be the vehicle in this set. It just doesn't really do it for me. The proportions seem all weird. They really did a great job with the fire truck in the Fire Brigade but the two cars in the Palace Cinema and this set just fall short. Nevertheless, I do enjoy the color decision to have made it pink. Who knows though, maybe opinions will change when official pictures come out.
that if real look's 1960's. if real maybe the next 10 years will be 1960's themed?
As an aside, I don't mind the unusualness of this set. Just strikes me as an odd choice.
You can color me excited. I'm super happy to see a distinctly different architectural style incorporated into the modular theme. I hope that as the years go by, Lego continues to explore new styles and keeps things interesting.
All in all it is interesting as this would be the first mod without the standard smiley face.
