@TheBigLegoski i had never even thought of a re-release but now im seduced by the idea of an updated re-release of the green grocers

I would love an updated rerelease of the green grocer. Not instead of a new modular though as that would be cruel to those who already have the green grocer and are looking forward to a new set.

For the new set, I think after the Assembly Square with its many small businesses it is about time for another single purpose building such as hospital, police station or school, in a beautiful old building.

It would have to be an update, many of the parts in the Green Grocer are no longer available. I'd love to see the Green Grocer redone.

Hopefully, if there is a re-release it will be one of the modulars I dont have (CC, GG or TH) ;)

I have a red one. Seen several sand blue versions. Thanks to Minecraft sets the 1x2 groove brick is now in dark red, pink, brown, and tan as well. Any of those would be good bricklink projects. I thought about making another with the large assortment I picked up this past year but decided to make containers for my Maersk trains instead.

An exact re-release of Cafe Corner is all but impossible at this point. Not only are the door molds out of print but the current design of arches would not allow for the building technique used over the Hotel entrance with studs applied under the arch.

I expect they will keep innovating and making new Modular designs rather than re-releasing. They are not based off an IP or landmark.

Given the re-release of the Taj Mahal and what I said further up the thread; that I thought TLG were waiting for MF hype to die down before announcing another big set release, my predictive skills obviously amount to zero!

I wonder if a modular re-release more or less likely with the Taj Mahal re-release?  Didn't someone at TLG comment that they're re-releasing the TM because the fans were requesting it? I'd guess that some of the early modulars would also be quite high on a list of sets folk want re-released

This thread had me checking out CC again. Something that stood out was the fifth picture in the database:

Never seen that one... Is it a 2nd model, or...?

I do know of the expansion options displayed on the back of the box, but have never seen this? Looks like a v0.9 of Pet Shop?!

    Oh... w8 a second.

Never saw that before; guess i was blinded by the HUGE CCs on the rest of the back...

Anyone who ever build on of those? Can you e.g. build it with the stuff you have left over from your second 10182 when you added a story to your building? That would be kinda sweet...

@eMJeeNL - I wished I followed the marketing of the CC box and bought 6 copies.

here is the next modular : cafe corner x6. for 500 bucks. this is the new Lego motto. go big (and expensive) or go home.
  • dougsmileydougsmiley Member Posts: 1
The box pictured is probably a generic one they use to send out to beta testing. Which would explain the 2016. This seems likely as all the set info is on stickers not printed on the box.

Still doesn't really tell us anything. Holiday catalog came today and i had hoped next modular would be in there as coming soon

I'd snatch that up in a heart beat! 12,264 pieces for $500? At $.04/piece, that's not too shabby!
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,711
no, I meant the cafe corner x6 pictured on the box. with only twice the 1st floor and roof and once the sign.

I love that you could make a proper little townhouse with the leftover pieces from a second set.

It's weird to talk about that as a new motto when the biggest sets lately have been re-releases of stuff from around a decade ago…

2007/2008 was definitely a "go big or go home time". We saw 10179 come out in 2007 as the largest set ever made and then 10189 beating it by several hundred pieces in 2008, 10188 also came out in 2008 aswell as the modular series starting in 2007 along with several very large creator and StarWars sets. This was made an even bigger deal when you factor in Lego just coming out of the early 2000's when every set was over-simplified and sets with large size had very little pieces.

To top that all off, 10189 Taj Mahal from 2008 hadn't been beaten until this year, when 75192 was released.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,711
well, we had the 3rd biggest set last year (GBHQ), then the 3rd biggest this year (Ninjago city) then the biggest and then the 2nd biggest. the last time before 2016 we had a set with over 3500 pieces was 2010 I think? (Tower bridge)

ah I am sorry, I assume from the box art that that would be the case, but I don't know for sure. I found some discussions about it on Eurobricks and apparently TLG didn't ever release instructions for that model, it was just an inspiration picture. But surely somebody must have tried building it??! I only wish I had that set to try it for myself...

It's crazy to me that it's now November and nothing has leaked. The next one (is supposed to) comes out in less than 2 months.

That Creator set that was teased on the 24th ended up being the Taj Mahal so now we're back to square one

True, but that's by piece count rather than by price. By price, the SHIELD Helicarrier, Sydney Opera House, Mindstorms EV3, and Super Star Destroyer were all $300+. And that price bracket gets even more crowded when you adjust for inflation. The frequency of sets at these price points is greater than it used to be, but the price points themselves are not uncharted territory.

I wonder whar are the chances that there won't be a modular this year (gasps, and hopes the chance is 0%)

I also spoke to one of the Lego store staff today - who I understand has indeed seen it - but was keeping very tight-lipped about it!  "It has minifigures" he very helpfully said...

I'd like it to be any of the buildings in this picture https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/1711/PragueClock_Lascar_3216.jpg Personally I don't care if it is a museum, post office, railway station or some sort of shop.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
A museum would sure get me to bite, but I am not expecting that.

Is it an ominous sign that two old modulars have popped to the top of the 'new sets' sidebar on Brickset's home page?
  • eMJeeNLeMJeeNL Member Posts: 817
There has been an update in the "images" section of both; but it got me thinking along the same lines... Hope not, even though I don't own either, I'd like to see some original designs.

I was also about to post the same comment regarding the updated images for #10182 and #10185.

I would love a modular junkyard in the style of the recent fishing modular.

Fishing Store isn't a modular by any definition...

I’m pretty sure he meant a modular that has the weathered feel of the Fishing Store. More importantly, though, a junkyard would be quite the challenge in a three-story urban config. Also, the dilapidated look doesn’t quite fit the gentrifed Lego city, and would drive down neighborhood real estate values...

It's tough to leak nothing.  If nothing is the 2018 modular building.

And haven't we all learned that LEGO Store Employees know nothing about product releases?

I interviewed Jamie Berard at the launch of #10258 London Bus back in June and we were able to discuss the series which have emerged from the Creator Expert line, those being the Winter Village, large-scale vehicles, Fairground and Modular Buildings. He commented specifically that we would continue to see Modular Buildings released every year for the foreseeable future as the design staff know that they are many AFOLs' favourite sets.
But does that mean we need to worry about the future of the winter village, large scale vehicles and fairground lines?!

I rather doubt it to be honest - just an easy can of worms to open up with a quote like that!

I think the addition of new hi-res images to Lego's servers signals a re-release is nailed on. Whether or not this will be instead of a 2018 modular or in addition to remains to be seen. Why otherwise, when TLG is trying to drive down costs, would they go to the bother of updating - and then uploading - the images of two long-retired sets?

  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,270
    The 2018 modular is not a re-release.

Whereabouts were the images updated on lego's servers? As I find, no matter where I search, in the shop or homepage, searches for 10182 or Cafe Corner or Cafe or Corner do not show any Cafe Corner results. The latter two obvioulsy bring up newer products (Corner Deli, various cafes, etc).
