2018 Modular Rumours

ScogaliScogali Member Posts: 15
Given that according to past release timings, the 2018 modular should be revealed in a bit over a month, surely it's high time we had a new subject to direct endless sausage-related speculation towards, now that the UCS falcon rumours thread has miraculously managed to fulfil its purpose?
For my part I hereby predict the 2018 modular will be a 10,000 piece, completely empty brick-built wallet as an example of art imitating the life of a 2017 AFOL. RRP $999.99

I want a modular train station to go with a new Creator Expert train.  Make it happen.

10 years in, Jamie's got to be thinking "what does modular town still need?"
    - Police Station/Donut Shop
    - Car Dealership/Gas Station
    - Hospital
    - Toy Store (Lego Store)
    - Home Improvement Store
    - Grocery Store (full size, not just the "greens")

Given that the trend is multi-use buildings, I think a combo option is most likely.  As much as I'd like to see a dedicated 32x32 build for any of those as singles, I don't think it will happen.

Of course the other trend lately is rehashes, so there's probably a 10% chance its Cafe Corner 2.0.   But I really hope not.

My bet is on a remake of one of the early sets with a subtle change such as: Coffee Corner; Fruit and Veg Shop; Covered Market.

The last one made nods to all the past modulars, especially CC. Don't see that happening again. I expect an attempt to further innovate but I also expect a new baseline RRP, perhaps even $199.99 USD

Although the UCS falcon rumours thread turned into a sausages and other nonsense thread it wasn't started with the intention of doing so. It was based on a rumour from a reliable source, so it wasn't miraculous or coincidence that it turned out to be true.

If there is a reliable rumour for the 2018 Modular please share, if you want a speculation and wish list thread why not. But if from the outset you are trying to have another sausage and more thread can we not use the ones that are already open:

I despair at what the forum has become. Saying that reading some of the replies it looks like this silly topic has been turned into a sensible one which makes a nice change from the other way around.

Of course not, rather it was miraculous that such a meandering, albeit highly enjoyable, shambles of a thread was able to survive long enough to see out the inevitable release of the falcon.

For the record this was started as a serious thread in which legitimate information could be shared (and of which I myself have none), or else for speculation as people saw fit. I say sausage-related in expectation of what it could devolve into, rather than as an incitement to the sausage-isation of discussion.

How about a Lego store with mini UCS MF 2x2 brick and a hospital above it for the non-AFOL spouses to be treated for shock? Art imitating life.

Someone really needs to convert the new UCS MF into a modular 'Star Wars museum' building...

Whoa!! @Huw, you might want to investigate the origins of this obviously leaked image of the 2018 modular

While there are no rumors yet, I'd be perfectly happy with one 16x32 building, with a lower price point. Whatever it is though, I'll probably get it.

Quite excited that it's modular speculation time again; I'm still not over how amazing Assembly Square was! If we're looking at mixed use buildings, maybe something like a bookstore and coffee shop, since those are often combined in real cities...

A friend of mine suggested a library or a museum. I think that would be a great addition. I'd imagine something with columns in the front.

I'd like a jewellery shop and maybe a hipster bike shop next door. How about a racing bike and BMX bike frame mold or a new colour for our current bike?

A sports shop would be cool, maybe a dojo or gym;with a boxing ring.. Am I thinking too big?

Guessing a jump to 199.99 USD will not occur, likely will stay at 169.99 or hit 179.99

A bike shop would be really cool; might be helpful to those who are collecting all the bike colours too! :D Could have bikes, helmets and tyres on sale, and a section at the back with tools for mending the bikes...

Bikes shops have been done in the Town Square sets. I'm guessing it could be like the Petshop, with an 'old fashioned' hardware store as the business at the ground floor level. Then again, it could be a hospital as well (since many wishes for a bank came true, which makes me wonder if LEGO does listen when it comes to mod ideas).
Or do a hardware store on the ground floor with a doctor's office on the upper floor?
  • GeordiePaulGeordiePaul Member Posts: 599
@catwrangler Didn't Assembly Square have a coffee shop on the bottom left hand side below the music shop? Plus, Cafe Corner was sort of a coffee shop too I'd say. That said, if it was a coffee shop, I'd still buy it. You can't have enough coffee, right?!

I'd like to see something distinctive with the next modular. Something standalone like a library, hospital or museum.

@Paperballpark Well, if you see Betty at the counter (she works Wednesdays and Fridays) she'll send you upstairs for 'a bagel', if you know what I mean?

    Bikers love a good bagel.

I knew there was a reason it was also a hotel...

I would really like a hospital and I believe it is possible, and would like to see, a complete hospital within the modular size. A medical clinic with something else just wouldn't be the same. There have been a few multi-purpose buildings in a row but there's plenty of precedent for a single purpose building.

However, since next year is Lego's 60th anniversary I wonder too if it might be a Lego store. That would be very fitting. I very much liked the ideas version that looked like a modern renovation to an historic building. And then there could still be another business or resident upstairs - or next door, as two 16x32 buildings. It's about time we got another one like that.

I would say that as Assembly Square is 1.5 building size (and therefore unequal) maybe next year's is only 16 wide, to counteract that imbalance?

A Legoland Embassy building, featuring; a queue of characters from other themes all trying to get work permits etc., a dusty room with filing cabinets and an octogenarian bureaucrat behind a desk piled high with paperwork and files, an ornate office for the ambassador and also somehow having a secret agent in the narrative of the story.

My initial post was rather cynical, but I would not mind a remake/reimagining of and early modular.

However, I do hope it is something new and interesting. Some of Jangbricks' modulars have been rather nice. A diner or bike shop or music shop would provide a lot of interesting interior detail.

Not sure about a Lego shop. Seems a bit narcissistic and dull.

Somethig with non European/ US architecture would be great.

I would love a nice police precinct with a walk up desk on the first floor maybe a holding cell towards the back and maybe 2 floors for offices
  • MrJacksonMrJackson Member Posts: 454
Here we are again with the Police Precinct rumors. Isn't everyone a little tired of police sets? I mean, City has a zillion police and fire sets because apparently there is a rampant crime problem and the infrastructure is always on fire...apparently they model Lego City off of Detroit. And not to stir the hornets' nest, but is Ninjago City a modular?

I think a school with a small playground would be cool.

Maybe give it a normal classroom, library, science lab, gymnasium, and cafeteria.

It could come come with a school bus for the vehicle.
