Hello from Australia!!!

Hello Brickset members. I am attempting to write this first forum post, to introduce myself to you all, and tell you a little bit about my Lego addiction. As a child, I remember Lego was the one thing I always played with (I would build sets, MOCs, and random other creations). I had a great time with Lego, and it became something very special in my heart (it became more than a hobby, but an unequaled passion in my life).

As time went by, and I started growing older (into my teenage years), my interest faded (as the amount and pressure of school work increased). I wasn't able to spend as much time (if any), building with the fantastic plastic and entered my first so-called "dark age". It was a period I now look back on today, with much disappointment. Staying away from a hobby, for any period of time is hard, and for me I found this extremely difficult.

However, within the last week my interest in Lego has reignited, this time as an AFOL. I am very glad that I have re-discovered a hobby which brought me so many fantastic memories. The first set I bought, as an AFOL, was the Ultimate Battle for Asgard. I'm quite amazed to say that the detail of the minifigures and the quality of the set has increased. It is truly remarkable.

So that's my story. Just a few quick questions before I leave you all to your own devices; asides from the Ultimate Battle of Asgard, what other 2017 sets should I be looking to buy in the back-half of the year; should I start a Lego related YouTube channel; and should I consider joining my looking LUG. Any answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, I really appreciate it.

I believe that my LUG is meeting next weekend, so it would be a good opportunity to go see what it is all about. And thank you for your response, I really appreciate it. Any suggestions for other Lego sets I should buy/should I start a YouTube channel??

No, or I'd have given it :).

    I don't watch YouTube.

You need to buy sets you like, not the ones I like.

It is generally a good rule to make a list of sets you want and prioritize those that have been out longest. By doing that you reduce the chance of missing out on a set that gets discontinued and you may be able to find some on sale.

It's AFOL day on Saturday so my LUG is meeting too, in fact I'd better go tell them that :).

Hi! Welcome to Brickset forums. I know there are quite a few people who post videos to YouTube or some other sites - there is a video animation thread elsewhere on this forum that talks about them:

They might be able to give you some hints as to how to go about it, although I don't think they can tell you whether you should or shouldn't start a channel - that's up to you I think.

In terms of what you should buy it depends on your interests, your budget, how and where you buy and lots of other things - you'll certainly have no shortage of sets to collect if you're interested in the Superhero themes!

Your LUG would be an ideal place to get a feel of how things work locally - Australia is not a place I know well enough to advise about, unfortunately.

    And above all, have fun!
