Hello from Virginia!

Hi,

My name is Jarod, although you can call me MCAdventureCity or MCA. I just turned 16 last week, so I thought, why not join the Brickset forum? After all, I've been waiting to be old enough for years now. But anyways, let me tell you a bit about myself and my LEGO history.

I have been a LEGO fan for almost my whole life, ever since I received a bucket of Duplo pieces on my first birthday. I received my first non-Duplo set, #4904, as a promotion with Life Cereal in 2005. However, it wasn't until 2007 that my collection really started growing, when I got #7994 City Harbor for Christmas, as well as two of the 2007 Aqua Raiders Sets. I discovered the main Brickset site in Fall 2010. Over the past ten years, my collection has grown to a whopping 360 sets. However, recently, the rate I have been buying new sets has slowed down, for multiple reasons. In 2014, I bought Minecraft, and was immediately hooked, to the point where I kind of entered a mini dark age for my collection. In 2015, I briefly returned to collecting, but was stopped again in early 2016 by the fact that I had run out of room in my family's house for more sets. Since then, I have only bought two more sets due to the lack of space. However, I don't consider myself in my dark ages since I still keep up to date on LEGO news, and haven't completely forgotten about my collection.

I look forward to getting to know all of you here at the Brickset forums, and hopefully I can make more space at home so my collecting can resume soon.

See you soon,

MCA

Hi MCA - welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy and join in with the lively debate on the things you love (Minecraft presumably). Space is often an issue in many people's collections (including mine) so you're not alone there. Have fun!

Howdy, I'm in Arlington, VA. Are you headed to Brickfair this weekend?

Sadly no, due to procrastination I decided it wasn't worth it this year. I'll likely be there next year though!

I went Saturday, I was a little disappointed compared to years in the past. The mosaics were impressive this time around. As were the Star Wars Battle on Scarif scenes. Everything else felt a little overdone and tired.

I was there for the full event and I got the opposite impression. Probably because my focus tends to be on different themes, though — the Bionicle section was enormous this year, and the quality of MOCs there was also quite inspiring. I managed to make connections with a lot of MOCists I normally don't encounter in the communities I frequent. There were also lots of fun Space, Mecha, and Steampunk creations that caught my eye. Even Pop Culture had some real standouts thus year, like the builders who brought so many functioning Transformers MOCs!

World of Lights was a bit of a letdown this year, but I think people have just gotten used to the expo center's safety lighting being non-ideal for lighted creations and thus stopped bringing them or putting so much time into them. I was also (as usual) bummed not to see a lot of Ninjago or Elves creations. But overall I had a lot of fun.
