Interesting find. Picked up 8098 a while back that had been re-taped by Walmart. Just called Lego to verify the contents and seems I have three extra bags! Whoot!

^ That's kind of interesting b/c I picked up a beat up Hogwart's castle the other day. It scanned at full price so I left it, but as I was carrying it back to the shelf, I was thinking to myself, "man this thing is heavy." I'm not sure what was in it, but it sure wasn't the original contents.

In other news, my local Wal-Mart finally put up the "extra 50% off clearance" signs up this week. That means I was finally able to get the wreath and snowman "stocking stuffer" polybags for half price as well as the Ninjago polys. Also had boatloads of Series 5. Picked up a few hundred of them for $1.50 each and even managed a Rebel Trooper battle pack for $2.95!

Extra 50% off? Wonder if that's nationwide. Did they have to override the prices?
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
"Extra 50% off clearance"...that'd be great! I was just at a local Walmart yesterday and the X-mas wreaths were still $3.97, 4 boxes of Series 5 minifigures, and 2 SW Clone Tanks at $99. An employee was re-organizing the shelves, so I ask if any price changes were going to happen and she said that would have to come from the store manager. And that depended upon the stores "markdown money".
I sure hope it's nationwide! I just bought a Razor Riprider 360 for my neice for $49 yesterday!

^ I don't think it is nationwide. I think it is store to store. Our store had one a couple weeks ago, but not all local WM's participated.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
@avoiceoreason I picked up a castle today as well to scan it cause there wasnt a shelf tag for it and it was sitting in the $49 Hogwarts place and noticed that it is a pretty heavy set compared to the others in that sized box. Just think thats the way it is.

For those in LA, Walmart on 190th/Western has no deals to be found today after a lunch-time check.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Saw a few locations relocate their clearance from garden to other smaller aisles. No new markdowns.

I found the yellow seaplane for $5. Oddly enough I've been planning to pick this one from the BOGO TRU or from Lego the past few days. Can't tell whether it's sheer luck or if it was meant to be.

Found a bunch of AC (7052) sets marked down to $11.00 today. Also grabbed a QAR for $50. Not too shabby!

These had all been sitting in the clearance aisle for a couple weeks, looks like WM is really trying to get this stuff out now.

7208 Fire Station for $25 today!! Also Ramses Pyramid for $7.50.
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
The WM near my mom in Louisiana has all of the SW sets, 2 POTC sets, and a bunch of others all at least 50% off. She talked to the lady that worked in Toys and she said they had been on clearance like that since Christmas. She is going to go back tomorrow and get me a complete list of what they have. Since I literally JUST got into Legos in the last 2 wks, I don't have many sets yet (only 22 so far). Will let ya'll know what she finds :)

Definitely not nationwide. This is the way this particular Walmart always does their clearance. Their initial clearance prices are never as good as the other Walmarts, or what you hear about on this forum. Then, the last week before they need to clear the shelves (I believe the garden conversion is supposed to occur this week), they haan gup the "extra 50% off" signs.

And yes, they have to do manual overrides on everything, so the checkout process is slowwww.

If you have an extra minute, make sure you drop by the actual LEGO aisle as well as the clearance aisles and look for "out of place" items. I found several sets at 50% off that were just put in with boxes of similar size. For example, they had a PQ Pyramid shoved in with the Black Pearl boxes. The BP was retail, but the PQ set was $50.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 369
And always look behind the front sets... Same-size items are stocked together, but smaller sets can get "accidentally" hidden behind larger sets.

Finally picked up Creationary today at WM for $25. Not really a super deal, but probably the best price I was going to find around here, and it was the only one they had. This store also still has one 5973 Hyperspeed Pursuit from 2009 on clearance for $45, almost $5 off RRP.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
I stopped by one of my local WM today because they've had 2 SW Clone Tanks on "clearance" for $99 since Feb. 1 and employees were condensing clearance shelveson Tuesday and I thought I'd take the 10 minutes to park and run in and check. Today they had a HP Hogwarts Castle marked $129 but when I took it to the scanner it read $54....not the normal 50% off at $64. The employee told me it was being "discontinued" and taken off their 'mod'.

Saw a bunch of the large Lego display cases at half off. Picked up two.

    @lulwut: what city, state?
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
Wife had a good score yesterday at the Wal-mart in Casa Grand on her way to phoenix. She grabbed an alien invasion mother ship for $30. I'm still searching for the display cases as I have become inspired to collect them.

I find the Wal-Marts by me have Lego sets in clearance but with no prices. Then sometimes they have items discounted in the regular toy lego aisle.

The few of you finding awesome deals at Wal-Mart, are the boxes clearly marked in red with the discount price? Or do you get someone there to help you scan prices?
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
At least in my area, everything has returned to normal. Many of the stores have fully stocked up again at regular prices the same items they discounted previously. There are a couple stores that have a few things in the clearance sections still -- some marked, some not. At this point, I don't think you're going to be able to pull things off the regular shelves and find them scanned at discount -- unless they don't have a spot for them on the shelves ;)
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
Stickers on boxes mean little to nothing. Have to scan everything to find the prices.
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
I scan everything I think may be on sale. The people at the Wal-mart here tend to be really good at making sure the sale items are where they are suppose to be. What I don't get is that they took 3 cents off the series 5 and put them in the clearance Isle.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
I wish all the Walmarts around me had the newer price scanners around the store, the ones that display two lines in a cross versus the ones with the swirling circles pattern. The newer ones will pick up barcodes off an LCD and I have photos of the barcodes of everything I'm interested in price checking on my phone so it is a lot less work to figure out what is on sale with the newer scanners =)
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 369
Another plus on the new scanners is that you can scan another item without having to wait for it to cycle back to the "home" screeen.

No kidding, I have been keeping a eye on these for 2 months now

Just as a heads up looks like Wal Mart is clearance pricing a few different sets, Picked up a Emperors shuttle and Gen Grevious Starfighter for 30 and 25 respectively. Had other sets I hadn't seen in the clearance are before as well (Some Cars and Pyramid stuff)

Were they price override or did they ring up at those prices?
  • pvancil27pvancil27 Member Posts: 588
Rang up red tagged and in the clearance section, not the lego isle

The Grievious fighters were marked on the red tags at 25, the Emps shuttles were redtagged at 59.94 but the price checker and register rang them at 29.90

I checked two other Wally's and they still had those sets at reg price (checked the scanner at each)

Thanks for the updates. I will be more aggressive with price checking in the future.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
must be an out of the way Walmart as those sets were clearances a long time ago . . .

In terms of where its at yea kinda, Theres 5 Wally's here and its the smallest of the 5 (all SC's). I had me best luck finding clearance things there. Theres another store that still has all the things like Turbo Tanks and T6's for full price, their clearance sucks. Just hoping I can snag them cheap. Anyone ever tried buying one full price at a store and taking the receipt to a store that had them clearanced to get a refund?

I checked a local Walmart of mine and they still are sticking to the $75 price drop on the POTC Black Pearl... I really am trying to wait for it to go to $50... they have so many of them I'm thinking of talking to the manager about it next time, at least maybe trying to get one whose box is less then perfect but complete.

I did pick up the last 4181 POTC Isla de la Muerta for $9! So I'm happy for a moment or two.

I wonder what happens sometimes. There was one Walmart that was not doing any discounting and has been fully stocked. They had a full shelf of Pearls and a complete endcap of them somewhere else at full price. Went back two weeks later and there was only one left at full price.

I have witnessed this phenomena as well.

My local WM has a 7065 mothership for 30, several 7052 abduction for 15 (though marked at 20), and about four 4755 knight bus' for 14. There are also a few of the 8304 racers for 2 bucks. If anyone is interested and in the MS Gulf Coast region (doubtful) it is the Ocean Springs WM.

This WM has been doing steady sales lately, with new sets/price changes on sales every four days or so. A few large sets, but mostly midsized and small.
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
I know where that is :) Originally from BTR. Wish I was still there! Lol

Over the weekend I found 5770 Creator Lighthouse for $29 [$10 off MSRP] (last one)... so I took it mostly because I wanted the light brick... and at 0.055984¢/brick I felt it was a good deal as that is my average cost per brick on 50% off the other sets I have got through this clearance event.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Found a returned and opened but complete in sealed bags Ninjago Ice Dragon for $20. Wonder how that was priced.
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
Nice! Gratz! I want that one to put the dragon in my Medieval area lol

The Lighthouse is a nice kit. I really like the Creator sets for playability and think they're the best value in Legos at this time. If you want a light brick then try looking at TJ Maxx and Marshal's (if you have them in your area). I found Prince of Persia: Quest Against Time set for $29. It includes a light brick and a lot of usable bricks, probably more so than the lighthouse. I nonetheless returned it as I'm trying to limit purchases to sets that I *really* want.

Geesh, after reading this thread no wonder where all the sets are going. You guys are some serious Lego freaks. No offense of course...I thought I liked Lego, but compared to you guys I am a freaking Lego baby LOL. I am sure Lego loves you all :).

Someone seems to have found the Black Pearl for $10 at Wal-Mart. Their video:

I follow this guy on YouTube, he's definitely telling the truth. Can't imagine this would be easy to find though.

Where's the proof? I can sit in my car and film myself screaming about finding Town Hall for $20 but without a receipt to prove this who would believe me?

Just playing devil's advocate here Dan.

    ^^

So lucky. The BP's are priced at retail at a couple of Walmarts I visit.

True....it would of been easy to show the receipt while filming. I'd file this under, "show proof before gloating."

    Could have happened. I found HP Hogwart's Castle 4842 for $15 :)
