I tried a few stores today. I did find several sets that I wanted that were on clearance. Of course, the clearance price was like 97 cents off retail! The other stores were too big, and while they had items like red Ninjago, that stock was still in the main Lego aisle and not clearanced at all.

I was in my normal Walmart today buying other stuff, walked over to Lego, nothing was on clearance, including stuff that WAS on clearance a month ago...

    Sheesh!
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ That is what I am seeing more often than not. I did, however, see one store with about 20 Nuckal's ATV's still at 50% off in case you wanted to grow your army ;)

You know what they say. One just cannot have too many Nuckals.

    Can they?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
My local Lego store still has plenty of Nuckals, and I get VIP points there! :)

S&H still has them as well, go figure...

I still want to venture out to a walmart in no man's land about 45 minutes from where I live. When I did that last weekend in the other direction, I found 3 Slave 1's layed over on the lego shelves.

I was driving from the Tulare area in California up to San Jose and decided to stop at any Walmarts that crossed my path. To my surprise I found a couple right on the way. Thinking I was going to strike gold (the valley is a very rural area) I had high hopes. I could not have been more wrong though. Tons of stock at both stores, shelves of Black Pearls... nothing on sale. What a strange clearance...

I wonder if there are any deals left since the new sets are on shelves now. I know one WM that has BPs and a few QAR left, but they were only 25% off last time I checked and I bet they have gone up in price since then.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
So, I was running early to pick up my daughter and stopped at a WM I'd been to 6 times this year with nothing much interesting on clearance. In the greatly reduced LEGO aisle I spot a BP hiding behind a CTT, I look for its spot and don't find it. So I scan it, can't hurt right? "See associate" I find one and she's confused about it but scans it and it comes up full price. Oh well. I mention I'd checked because some WMs have them on clearance. She says I can have it half price, she wants the room it's taking up and is very happy to get rid of it. Woohoo! Of course five people were involved at the check out before I could actually get the discount but I am no longer so bitterly jealous of the rest of you :). Persistence!

@Jenni So, I just need to convince my WM associate that they need more room? "I'll take that last MF off your hands for you. Look how much space that HUGE box is taking up. And, that Frigate? Another huge box. Look at all the extra space you could have!" :-)
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@cloaked7 oddly enough it may work at WM. I had the luck of the Stocker being nice and volunteered to reduce the BP from 35% off to the max possible of 50% off for that set. So give it a try!
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@cloaked7 Give it a try :). There wasn't a space and tag for BP at this WM, they must have screwed up their clearance. She could tell from scanning it that there was nowhere specifically to put it. Unfortunately there was a dedicated space for MF, though it was filled with the Ninjago boat. Actually there was a frigate hiding back there behind the CTT, wasn't interested myself, you in the Nashville area?

Honestly I didn't even ask, I'm incredibly chatty and just told her why I was checking it and she offered the discount. She was in the middle of changing stuff our and seemed a little overwhelmed.

Found POTC london escape for $15 (70% off) and Cars V8 cafe for $20 (66% off) at my local Walmart. They weren't marked down yesterday.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@turtle1173 nice one! I think you got the best find on London Escape so far on this board.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
I finally found a Walmart that was fully stocked, most of the PotC sets except QAR, plenty of Black Pearls, and Millennium Falcons. A good variety of HP sets and all the Alien Conquest stuff except the little striker set. Only nothing was on sale.... :( I was so happy to see it so full but it was well kept and didn't look like any sale had just past. However the scanner wasn't working either. I had them check one set and since that wasn't on sale figured the rest weren't. Hopefully later they'll mark down some stuff.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
    @BrickDancer nope, got mine for $10 :P
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@gmpirate wins the 'London Escape Award' at $10. Impressive!

Went to a Walmart that was clear out by other Lego fan before and found a brand new Police Station for $49! I guess better late than never!

grabbed Emperor Palpatines Shuttle for $40 CDN at my local Walmart last week.

    $79.99 regularly. I was pleased.

I'm new to these forums however I'm not new to the Lego sale hunt. I know that places like Wal-Mart and Target do price match. Is it possible for us to post pictures of sales since these stores are hit and miss depending on location. For example I live in a small town that does not regularly have sales however the manager said if I can find a sale price at any other store they would honor it.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ Pretty sure they will match "advertised" prices -- not hearing a friend in Wisconsin found The Black Pearl for $20.

Pretty sure it excludes any clearance pricing.

Not to mention you'll have more luck price matching at Walmart than Target
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
When I asked the manager about how the price matched work she said that if i can provide a photo of the sale price on a tag from any competitor they would honor it. I was not trying to indicate the lucky find, but the ones that actually have the sale tag. I have several times gotten Target to sale match Wal-Mart and vise versa. I was also told that although Wal-mart corporate says that this set or that set is now on sale the individual store has the option to put that item on sale. It was explained that this is why I can go from one Wal-Mart here in town then go to Tucson and find the same Lego on sale. I was told it includes any sale pricing of any kind, the exception is such things like Amazon and Ebay. It could be that I don't have any other near by Wal-marts and targets closer than 80 Miles. The competition is stiff between these two here locally.
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
Well that's pretty lucky for you I think! I can't get stores near me to price match anything. They always give me a reason why they can't. Most recently tried to get the 2 CMFs for $5 that Toys R Us was offering and they denied me because they "don't do buy X for $Y". :Rageface
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
Yeah it was fantastic I was able to get 14 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack and 16 Snowtrooper Battle Pack from wal-mart for $5.90 each about 2 weeks ago. Then walked over to target and got another 12 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack and 9 Snowtrooper Battle Pack for the same price when they price matched. Thing is there have not been allot of lucky sale finds since around mid January. A few clearance castle towers that the wife found at 2 in the morning.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,333
The Target's out here in Phoenix won't price match. Walmart does. They are always nice about it. Sad to say Walmart gets more of my money than Target.
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
Yeah its the same here with me, Between the wife and I we check Wal-mart 2 times a day and Target once a week and K mart 1 time a month. I was also told that sometimes on rare occasions the Wal-mart managers will work something out with frequent buyers they get to know. For example Last year I bought the remaining Battle packs from 2010 that they had left for the $5.90 although they were not marked on sale. Sometimes all you have to do is ask around and have a little luck.

Happened by a couple of Wal-Mart's today, and for those looking, there is still stuff out there. Saw plenty of Cars, AC, PQ, SW and red box Ninjago. One store, not kidding, must have had about 200 Nuckal's ATV sitting on the shelves. Another had about 50 AC Mother Ships at $30. I picked up a couple of Republic Frigates and some Freeing Dobbys.

Saw several BP's in the clearance section, but still ringing at full price (as did the one QAR I found). The employee I talked to said to keep checking back b/c the prices would definitely drop and all the stuff had to be cleared out of the garden section by the end of next week.

Does anyone else find it completely hilarious that Target and Walmart will price match with the competition but not from store to store within each chain? I've never tried this btw.
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
I think its kinda funny as well. I have had this one locally match a proven sale price of a few in Tucson though.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
I have found WM cashiers to match the price of pretty much anything. And, sometimes if you just tell them. I have also had them just mark things down because they saw them on the wrong shelf with the wrong prices themselves. One told me "I told them they had these in the wrong place and priced wrong. Oh well, they didn't move them, so you may have them at the price on the sign!" But, yup... a WM store won't match a walmart.com price. I could write a book.

My 7th grade daughter made all division band and had a concert tonight that brought us to an "out of the way" town. They had a nice super Walmart. I was very happy to find 2 HP castles at $64 each and a Clone turbo tank for $59. I've spent a fortune this past month on Scorpion pyramids, Slave 1's, AC Headquarters, Imperial Flagships, etc. But I sure couldn't say no to those.

Got back from walmart last night with about $80 stash that they just tossed on a shelf. Found 1 more Plo Koon for $12, 10 ninjago ninja ambush for 3.40 and a $15 ninjago blacksmith. It pays to check at midnight.

Just swung by the walmart i got my falcon at weeks ago and found a general grivous for $25 and picked it up. The black pearl was still at $75... waiting for it to be $50... anyone have a receipt with that price on it that i could ask a manager to price match?
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188
Meh your lucky, I just got back with a Koon's star fighter for 12. 5th one in the collection. did talk to the shipping manager though. the Wal-Mart here has 6 fully filled trailers with pre Christmas sale items. I was told there should be allot of Lego sale items very soon.

Pricematching? Or asking for the ability to get something from a major corporation at a price another customer has?
If i have said something wrong please delete my post as it was not my intention

I made another day trip today to scope out some of the smaller town WMs in the opposite direction from what I did last week. WM is definitely a really an odd entity. One that I went to today had 10-12 different sets on clearance with a couple alien ones and the T-6 at 50% but then had Escape from London, Hogwarts and a couple other on "clearance" for a $3 markdown.

Another I went to had a few sets in the clearance section on an end cap and only had price tags on about 2 or 3 of the 10 or so sets. The store didnt even have price scanners and when I took it to the counter in the sports area the guy scanned it a couple times and told me it was coming up Invalid Item and he couldnt sell it to me and he put it behind the desk.

The last one I went to was the first one out of the ~15 or so WMs in an 80 mile radius that I've been to that I've seen QAR scan for $59 and of course they didn't have any but they had 2 BPs in clearance for full price. Asked an associate and they said there wasn't anything they could do.

Pretty much a bust, but was a pretty nice day to be out driving.

Let me know if that price matching works out @masterjay, all the managers at the WMs around me are extremely bad with customer service.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
Yeah, if it works I would love to see a Falcon receipt pdf.

Yesterday, I got a Hogwarts 4867 for $35. They had a bunch of Freeing 50% off and a few Alien sets ( I didn't check prices on these). This was in Oakland, MD.

Hit a few while on my travels today. I don't think I've seen a Walmart discount the same set more than once. Whatever the discount is originally, it just stays that way until its gone. Seems to be my experience anyway. Anyway, picked up a few AC, Spongebob, and PotC sets at 50% -- some Pearls at $74.

Found one excavator & one mindstorms in clearance isle -- at full price :P

  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
Was checking one today, they'd been clearing out storage because they had the large Space Police set, at $90! and two large bionicle sets. An employee saw me and said "get a cart and load it up", I think they're sick of dealing with the clearance aisle. I explained that barely on sale out of print LEGO was not what I was there for :).
  • vader34mtvader34mt Member Posts: 88
^ i saw that same space police set in a local walmart, also at 90, in a completely crushed box!

i had no interest even if it was mint condition and cost 40 bucks, but still
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
^ Exactly. I went and looked up the Bionicle sets, they're from 2009.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
One walmart pulled out old stock for retail price. Saw those small boxes of farmers and castle wizards. Also saw a city fire boat with a slightly faded artbox.

Did pick up a ultimate build lightning mcqueen though. Sadly I watched a video review and the wheels weren't as gold as they were shown on the box. If anyone wants it for cost + shipping, lmk before I return it in the next few days.

Did you ask the employee to mark them down for you?

They can, and will do that, if you get a department staffer... Ask them to mark them all 50% off, or maybe 60% off if the boxes are damaged, and they might just do it.

Maybe in TX but here on Long Island I have asked many staffers and managers during multiple visits to 10 or so stores and they would never mark anything in the clearance aisle down for me. They were also unwilling to price match their own stores which is even more annoying.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ Too much trouble IMO. It takes long enough just to check out of a Walmart :P
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
@pciron - I had one local WM here that went beyond that, the dept manager saw me loading up a cart after Christmas, she was so happy, she brought me two more carts and helped bring it all out to the truck and helped load it. She went to the back stock room and cleaned out the rest of it for me as well, was happy as clam that someone was taking "all that old stock away" and making her life easy. She had new shipments coming in and wanted the shelves clear.

She did offer to mark down the opened SW Advent Calendars to 75% off for me, but I declined and told her she should just damage them out, since the minifigs were stolen out of them. She probably had 15 or 20 opened Advent Calendars, shame really... Those should have been sealed better to prevent such nonsense.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
^ I guess a lot depends on what the WM has in their storeroom and how much overstock they have. The WM's around here don't seem to have an overstock problem. Most of them only have 1 or 2 of the larger SW sets, and they don't seem to be in need of shelf space. So, I don't expect to see any deals like you got. But, good for you. Sounds like a win-win situation.
