^^ Wow... how strange. I saw 4 isle caps filled with series 6 at walmart I'm tempted to go back and see if they're on clearance lol
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
I went to a Michigan Walmart on Friday, one that I knew was well stocked. I was hoping to see some new sets on discount and some extra % off on some other toys. Almost nothing new! It was the Christmas clearance moved to one location in the store. New SW sets were not on clearance. At least, I know where to go if they completely clear out.

On a related note: Was there supposed to be an extra 50% taken off the clearance price? Was that to be done at the register?
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
@malachirobertson I THINK (difficult to be sure, since all WM's are different), but I think you get an extra 50% off if the item has a red sticker. I got some LEGO Wreaths in bags for $1.75 ea due to that today. But, at another WM today I got a Cars set that had a red sticker, but there was no notice in the clearance area that red ticket items were an extra 50% off. I asked that cashier, but she didn't know so I didn't push it. And, yet another WM gave me an extra 50% off when I went to return some already marked down Cars LEGOS, because they were announcing 'extra 50% off on ALL clearance' via the store intercom. The customer service clerk had already given me half of my money back, and said she just had to have the return approved by a manager. The manager walked up, approved it, then told the clerk that she should not have given me an extra 50% because the items didn't have a red sticker. Oh, but the story continues... later I am in toys in another WM and asked the clerk in toys (who is marking down items) if items need to have a red sticker to get the extra 50% off and she said "No, we aren't putting stickers on any mark downs." Confused yet? I am. The WM policies are obviously all over the place. One way at one store, different at another. One way with this manager, different with another manager. Different things marked down at different stores. Also, one clerk said policies and directions on how to do things were always changing. For instance, for the longest time you had to get a sticker on returns when you first entered the store at the WM closest to my home. Well, no more. You just walk straight to CS. And, of course, back when they did the sticker thing sometimes the person would date and initial the sticker, sometimes not, sometimes they would say they didn't have the right color sticker. It sure seems to be a product of little training and a lot of turn over and wishy washy rules.

Picked up a lot of stuff this week. No gems except one store that had about 8 or 9 HP Castles, but they were pretty beat up. There are still stores that are fully stocked that have never had a sale -- so frustrating. So many stores just have tons of BP's. Can't believe they are not putting them on clearance.

Had one really great find yesterday. Picked up Hogwart's Castle 4842 for $15! Has to be the find of this thread I think :)
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Btw, finally found the Christmas Lego on clearance at one Walmart. Normally $3.47, not just $3.00!!!
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142
    series SIX at $1??
Yeah - I had to ask to be sure - I wouldn't have thought they'd be clearing them out so soon. Don't know yet if they've all been picked over (but the packages look pretty pristine, and they are definitely not all the same "thickness") and I got enough that I should be able to get the set(s) I'm looking for.
My wallys haven't even got series 6 in at all.

I made a 80 mile round trip to all the walmarts within a 40 mile radius of me only to come up empty of finding a cheap QAR or BP, if anyone would like to help it would be greatly appreciated
  • andystarandystar Member Posts: 275
Hit up two Walmarts today, neither had anything on discount but had decent SW stock of Falcons, Pod Racers, Frigates, and Turbo Tanks. Also decent Alien Conquest stock but almost no Harry Potter. I hope WM up here in Maine is just lagging the rest of the country by a few days. For those that have or can get HP Hogwarts Castle 4842 I'd gladly buy one plus pay any S&H or can do a trade, PM me if interested. If the stuff at my local WM does discount I'll be grabbing a good portion of it that will add.to my stock for.trades.

Not a great haul but I got these today after in 3 local WM:

    4737 HP quiditch x3 $10
    7931 SW T6 x1 $30
    7288 mobile police unit x3 $21
    5512 x1 $15

No turbo tank or falcon marked down at all. Was hoping to get lucky.
  • pumperxpumperx Member Posts: 106
Oh, and 2283 HF witch doctor for $15. There are still many left, maybe close to 20. Only took one for my son.

This sale is all over the place, no rhyme or reason to it at all, I went to a well stocked WM today and thought I would hit the jackpot as they had a lot of stock in the clearance isle last week but was all RRP. Well all the AQ stuff was half off so I grabbed a full set of the series, but ALL the Harry Potter stuff and SW stuff was put back into the regular isle and marked back up to full RRP, there was a Ninjago Fire Temple in the clearance with a red sticker for RRP of $120, I went to 2 different ppl in the toy department and a manager and they would not budge on it, they said whatever the sticker said is the price, I said well the loudspeaker is announcing 50% clearance prices, they said it didn't apply to that, whatever the hell that means, so I left with the AQ stuff but really mad over that Fire Temple, been to 7 stores overall and its all just a crap shoot on what the sale there will be, if there is even a sale, so far not a single store had RF, MF, or CTT on sale, hoping to find a store that will have them on sale but out of 7 stores none yet. I really wish Walmart would get their crap together and be more like Target, where its a nationwide thing.

I found one Star Wars Advent calendar today at one Walmart and it still rang up at full price, Found the Christmas wreath at a second Walmart and that was full price also. None of the Star Wars sets have been marked down by me and I still haven't seen any Series 6 minifigs, just boxes and boxes of Series 5.

Target sucks for Lego clearance, imo. Not as many good sets and not many of them.

I could use that that QAR and BP if you got it for half off (have some sets for trade).
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
I think it all makes pretty good sense. Here's my understanding of it.
Each Walmart has a certain allotment of shelf space for Lego. My take is that there are 3 levels of stock. Max, medium and minimum. Max seems to be super centers mainly. Then other non-super stores can have the lower levels. So aside from over ride clearances which are random the other mark downs appear to have a pattern. Just my experience locally.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
WM's pricing has always been store specific. If you visit different WM's and check prices on different things like batteries, wipers, anything... there will be a lot of variation in prices. I think that has to do with the competition. For instance, if there is a Target in the area, or same shopping center, prices will usually be lower than at a rural WM with little competition. Kinda scary when you think about it. If WM causes local small businesses to throw in the towel by lowering prices guess what they will do after those businesses close? Yup, raise prices. And, WM's are so HUGE, they sell so much 'stuff'. Large stores sell so much and employee so many people just one huge Super WM may have sales of 100 million per year. The size of a small company, just in one store! So, I guess their model is to let the stores manage themselves on some aspects. Course, who knows how they determine pricing and mark downs. I am sure there are many factors involved. Just trying to understand it myself. Not taking up for WM. I find it aggravating too. There is no consistency about anything at WM.

Maybe it's where I am on the east coast, but the Targets around me are anything BUT consistent on markdowns.

I have had decent luck finding all of the markdowns, but after the first round, just don't have the resources. I've been picking up just sets I want to build or part out for MOCs. As an investment, I expect the sets that so many are getting so cheaply may take longer to rise in value, as there would be so many more "competitors" in the secondary market. I guess time will tell, though.

well went looking for some cat litter and came home with two hogworts castles for 69.99 a piece

Went on a back country tour and picked up a bunch of discounted HP and Star Wars sets. Finally found a store out of about 15 with the new Star Wars lineup on the shelves. Needless to say I have my local honey holes and then an off the beaten path Deliverance location that seem to be the spots for discounted sets.

Clone turbo is on my Want list, actually 2 of them, one for collection the other for this kid I know over here who cannot afford to pay more for this and I have been trying to get this to him....lets see....
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^^ Yeah, I'm debating whether I should go on one of these treks. I can totally see coming up empty and a whole day shot. There would be the thrill of discovering some good finds, but it'd only be worth it if there were several big dollar sets found.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ If you don't live out west it seems their are a lot of good finds. You're lucky to even find one of the larger sets on a shelf out here -- full RRP at that.
  • skherbeckskherbeck Member Posts: 33
I live "out West"(California), and so far I've picked up the following at half-price or better from Wally World:

    The Burrows x 6
    Freeing Dobby x 4 ($1.50 each)
    Knight Bus
    Quidditch Match x 2
    AC Mothership ($11)
    Tripod Invader
    Jet copter Encounter
    SW Advent Calendar x 3 ($7 each)
    Whitecap Bay x 2
    London Escape
    King's Carriage Ambush x 2
    Mack's team Truck
    Tokyo Pitstop
    Escape at Sea x 2 ($7.50 each)
    Flo's V8 Cafe
    Big Bentley Bust-out
    Mater's Spy Zone
    Creationary
    The Wich Doctor ($11)

I found all of these over several visits to 4 different Walmarts last week (before the "official" clearance advertised on T.V....I havn't found anything since that started!
So if your out West, don't give up!
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ was referring to "larger" sets. i.e. turbo tanks, falcons, etc. Still, those are nice prices. Where in CA are you?

All these deals are driving me crazy! I've been to 3 local Walmarts with no sales :(
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Why are the mermaids going for so high with the Whitecap bay set? You could break with this deal by just selling the minifigs.
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 Member Posts: 1,431
picked up a couple of AC sets, mobile police station a boat and the sport boat transport for 50%. I wish I could find the police HQ for 50% off. Was thinking I'd design my own modular MOCs. My thinking... what am I going to do with a pet shop. Boring. The town hall looks good for a Gotham City courthouse though
  • canuhandle23canuhandle23 Member Posts: 104
the pet shop u hold onto a few yrs...sellit for 300 in 2015
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142
I finally made the rounds today and found some deals

I picked up these extras if anyone wants to trade for a black pearl or queen anne's revenge

    3x slave 1
    creator lighthouse
    creator transport truck
    AC Mothership
    2x sw t-6
    3x POTC London escape
  • ktmoktmo Member Posts: 73
I hit another WM and the only thing I saw was Cars Flo's V8 and it wasn't even 50% off. The Lighthouse rang up full price.
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,009
I am looking to trade for a clone turbo tank if anyone has an extra, have tons of unopened sets!
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,333
I got a Hero Factory Witch Doctor $15, and Rocka XL $13. They had the Lighthouse for $30 but I passed. I hope it goes down to $20.
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
I have an extra clone tank. Looking for any SW sets I don't have really. @teal93mr2
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
Just in case anyone in the Southern California area found an Alien Conquest Jet-Copter Encounter at walmart clearance and wants to sell/trade let me know! :)
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,333
They also had an Alien Mothership at my local WM for $30.
  • KottonKotton Member Posts: 55
Series 6 for $1.00 would have been amazing! I was lucky enough to pick up about 100 series 4 for .74 just after they came out at Walmart... I LOVE IT when that happens! Good for you!
  • momof2boys99momof2boys99 Member Posts: 322
I went to the Walmart in my town. They did have a good selection marked down. I picked up 2 QAR and 1 CTT. The CTT was in a beat up box that looked like it might have been tampered with. So, I knew what I might be getting. I purchased it anyway as my kids like the parts and I was just thinking it might all be there. Well....it was missing all the figs, stickers, and book 2. Why do people do that? I hate that people steal. Yuck!! So...be careful and check your boxes that don't look good.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Yargh, people are still finding QAR sets. Did you also see clearance tags for Millennium Falcons and Police Stations?
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
All of the WMs in my area have QAR but only at full price. Wish those would go on sale so I could pick one up.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
I have not seen one Falcon at that price. I don't see how they'd be selling it at a clearance price if it is still part of their current line-up.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Got 5 LEGO minifig display cases mfg by Blip Toys. 4 smaller ones that hold 8, got them for $3 each. I think they retail for $10-12? 1 large one that holds 16 (perfect for a minifig series) for $8. I think it retails for about $20-24? That was from a WM 10 minutes away. My local (5 min away) WM has the same sets but they are only marked down $2, so I'm gonna keep an eye (OK, maybe both eyes) on them.

Been to 4 WM's this evening, no SW sets on sale. None. No QAR's on sale either. My local WM has repositioned their sets and it looks like they have places for the larger SW sets and the QAR and BP, so it may be awhile before they mark those sets down. Also, they have some of the newer sets out (supposed to be on the 10?, they're early), and it looks like they have room for everything. Course, that may change if they get a boat load of the new sets in. Who knows.
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142

I posted earlier with stuff I had for trade for QAR or BP.

To add to the list is a

Police Station (opened box to make sure all contents were there as the box had a 4 inch hole in it)
    Police Chase
    Police Transport
    Police Helicopter

is there a specific day of the week when Walmart marks down all their toys?
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
I get the impression its Wednesdays. But that just means they start on Wednesdays but it may take them a day or two to get it done. So I've been told . . .
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 Member Posts: 1,431
^^^^ I'd love to find those cases for that cheap. I have a couple but want to get enough to last me through at least Series 8 this year. Then maybe I'll pick up more, just in case they decide to discountinue it. (whoever "they" is)
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Stopped by my Walmart during lunch and found a few sets at 50%.

    T6 Shuttle x2
    Bounty Gunship x1
    Cars Ultimate Mater x1

Did not see any of the big potentials like MF and QAR, at discount or RRP even.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
@BrickDancer Which Walmart? Thought I covered them all last week :P

Torrance Location: 190th and Western Ave, off the 405.

*Edit: I was there last week also to pick up some City Police, Tripods and SW Starfighters. Came back today on a whim to find a different selection of sets. Never deep on inventory though, only a couple copies of each set usually.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Lol, funny, I was just there this weekend. There wasn't one set to buy at the time -- Cars stuff aside.
