There were a few boxes of Series 5 Minifigures in Stockton, CA today. Clearance sticker marked on the box at $1 each. I bought a dozen. There's still 2.5 boxes full. Top shelf actually had an unopened box (perhaps I should say unfolded for display), but the tape on the sides are cut.

^ $1.00 would be fantastic, My local Wal-Mart has them in the clearance section for $2.97.

I think it borders on false advertising to put something in a clearance section, with a red clearance sticker that is actually RRP. You are basically suggesting that people are getting a deal when in fact they are not. I would say about half of the toys in the clearance section (including all Lego) have red clearance stickers that are actually just RRP.

Oh, and at my Wal-Mart, they never alter the prices until they decide one day to put up signs saying "All Clearance an additional 50% off." Nice except the extra 50% has to be keyed in at the register and only about half the stuff actually has clearance stickers on it, so the poor check out people are usually clueless.a

I went to a super wal-mart today (Mishawaka, IN). It was the one that had very little in the clearance near the Garden section. This time though the 50% discount was there. They had one SW Advent calendar left and a few freeing Dobby. In the Lego aisle they had the AC HQ, but back at regular price! What I found interesting was that on the clearly labelled clearance it state that prices were effective 12/25/11 to 03/02/12. Maybe that is when they have to clear that area out? Will they throw the stuff in some back room somewhere? Probably. They still have a Hasbro SW Tie Bomber and some Last Air Bender toys that I think they have had for at least a year. Oh, and the CMF were $2.97.

@adol7 ok, mapped the Stockton Walmart. It said 6 hours & 19 minutes. Figure I should probably map out everything in between as well.
  • KernelPanicKernelPanic Member Posts: 12
    Picked up:
    Clone Turbo Tank $59
    Hogwarts Castle $64
    T6 $30
    Grievous Starfighter $25

Shelf tags changed during the day today.
They also had the HP Bus for 17, Forbidden Forest for 7, Ultimate Build Mater for 15, and Hero Scorpion for 13. A Witch Doctor was on the shelf without a tag. I may price check it tomorrow.

BTW I was just at TRU and they had 6 SW advent at full price still. Crazy.

Another Walmart had like 10 boxes of CMF in the clearence section at RRP this weekend. I won't be back over there until Monday.

Every Walmart is different...but todays discounts on 'clearance toys' came from Headquarters...whether that's regional or not, I have no idea. Jan. 31rst is Walmarts end of the calenadar year...so Feb 1rst they get new markdowns and what products (Legos) they have to reduce is dependant upon the stores clearance level. Which might be confusing because larger Walmarts have higher traffic so they might not be willing to discounts their LEGOs or even have them. My local mid-sized Walmart left the Series 5 minifigures at $2.97 but that's all they had. My one large Walmart had nothing for sale and the other had 4-5 Aliens sets at 50% off down to $30, 4 Star Wars T-6 Jedi Shuttles at $30 and 3 Clone Turbo Tanks at $99...but I later realize that it might have been lowered but the tag might night have been changed. I was told last week that the night shift would change prices/discounts but it's actually the day shift. So if you were early a.m. shoppers, you might have missed them. The Walmart toy departments had between 900 to 1,000 items to change..so it took some time. But at each Walmart I was at there was a female in the aisles repricing/cleaning shelves....so I just asked questions or for pricing and they were happy to help. Here's what I found at a small Walmart in IOWA:

    2 Star Wars Clone Tanks $59each...bought 2
    1 Star Wars Republic Frigate $59......bought 1
    2 Pirates of C White Cap Bay $40...bought 1
3 Harry Potter The Knight Bus $17each...bought 1
    1 Cars Macs Semi Hauler $15...bought 1
5 Star Wars Bounty Hunter $25each
    1 Star Wars General Grieveous $25each...bought 1
    4 Star Wars T-6 Jedi Shuttle $30each...bought 1
    2-3 Creation Log Cabin
5 City Mobile Police Unit $21each
    1 City Police Station $40
    1 City Space Station $35
    several Aliens sets at $25-30each
Lego Star Wars watches at $7each
    Lego Ninjago watches at $9each

And 2 of the smaller stores had put the POC Black Pearl in their clearance section today but still at full price of $99.97. Each store had only one and I asked each person repricing toys about it and according to their "records" it was supposed to be priced into clearance items. So it might be discounted with the next few weeks. But Walmart online has it for $79.

    @KernelPanic Where you at?

I went to another 3 Walmarts today, two of which were very well stocked, and still no discounts. A few sets at insignificant discounts at one, but nothing else. May go out again tomorrow and visit a few more stores that I know have good stock.

Judging from most of the posts, it seems the west coast region does not discount as much.

Whoa! Scored big tonight! I think the Millennium Falcon might be the most sought after set in this markdown. All new clearance shelf tags were marked 2/1/2012. Not all Walmarts I visited had sets marked down, some still kept them at retail.

I got everything for half off minus the AC Tripod invader ($13):

    Star Wars Millennium Falcon
    Star Wars Clone Turbo Tank
    Star Wars T-6 Shuttle
    Star Wars General Grievous Starfighter
    City Police Station
    City Fire Station
    City Prisoner Transport
    City Space Center
    City Marina
    City Mobile Police Unit
    Alien Conquest Tripod Invader
    Alien Conquest Jet Copter Encounter
    Alien Conquest Mothership
    Creator Log Cabin
    POTC London Escape
    POTC Whitecap Bay
    Ninjago Earth Dragon Defense

Now just looking for a POTC ship and a SW Frigate and I'll be happy.

  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ No kidding. I've found some good deals here and there at Walmarts, but very limited quantities. I know of some very well stocked Walmarts but to date they have either done no discounting at all or just some token 25% things here and there. Been from LA to San Diego.

The Walmart close to my house never had Lego (hardly anyway) as they moved their toy section right before the holidays and never stocked up.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Checked a couple of WM's in Knoxville, TN. No SW sets marked down. The only thing on clearance was the series 5 minifigs for $2.99.
  • KernelPanicKernelPanic Member Posts: 12
^which of course not really clearence
  • KernelPanicKernelPanic Member Posts: 12
I'm in GA. Small score in Jasper yest. This morning stopped at Canton, and there was lots of stock but no clearence. They have lots of shelf space tho. I have seen better clearence at stores with less lego shelf space. Still wish I could score a serious haul.

Ok i was a real skeptic and called my local store both yesterday and today and no price drop on the millennium falcon. But i decided to stop in anyway and i saw a woman scanning the shelfs and replacing the tags and thats when i noticed I had found the motherload. The falcon was $69!!!!! I am so happy and the ten yr old me that lives inside de me is so happy he's in tears lol. Also 50% was hagrids cabin, republic frigate, log cabin, the HP bus, and the bounty hunter ship.... thats all i can remember. I did take a picture of the falcon shelf for proof for non-believers. will post more later
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
^ I believe, it's just not happening here, I was scanning things to check. All I've found today was Clone Turbo Tank and T-6 Jedi Shuttle. Though they finally dropped the price on CMF 5 packs to $1.50, they have more than three boxes, I'm not sure they'll get rid of them at that price.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
It still seems to be on a store by store basis. AC at 50% off at one store I checked, and full price at another a few miles away. Both had them in the clearance section. There have been ads for some sort of 50% off sale starting tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if this is a corporate wide alignment of 50% off on many/all of those items people have been seeing at 50% off at various locations. Perhaps 50% off on all red tag items. I do know that in both stores I visited today they had extra staff on hand and were marking/labeling things all over like crazy. Nothing in toys specifically, but in many other parts of the store.

Hit a previously hit WM, and found further reduction to 50% or more in Los Angeles area.

    T-6 at 50%
    Space Center at 50%
    Various Alien set at 50%
Police Station at 20% but someone just grap all of it in front of me.

Store that were already on clearance further reduced, and store that were not, so far it stay at retail. Don't bother with them.
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
I went to another northern Indiana Walmart today. It had discounts, but no stock to go with them! The Lego section was somewhat bare. In the clearance area I noticed tags for the Bounty Hunter ship and Hogwarts (the big one), but no stock. Both at about $25 and $65 respectively.
  • vader34mtvader34mt Member Posts: 88
so at my walmart nothing was shown as discounted...checked the MF, republic frigate, clone turbo tank...none on sale...

however, on price scan, the Queen Anne's Revenge was on sale for 59 (i picked one up to sell, have no interest in it but it was a good buy at the price, too bad the box was knicked up)

and the T-6 shuttle was on sale for 30, i bought one and now am faced with the question: open and keep the minifigs (of which i have none) and sell the ship? or sell the whole thing new in the box?

so my recommendation...price scan sets you're interested in, even if theyre not on the clearance shelf, they may be on sale
  • darktremeredarktremere Member Posts: 42
Checked my Walmart today, White Cap Bay was at $40, Series 5 figs are still $2.99. They also had some AC sets left, but I didn't check on the prices for those.
  • bluishgreybluishgrey Member Posts: 10
My WM also puts a lot of stuff on the clearance aisle but doesn't discount the price. Even stranger, sometimes when first moved to clearance they are marked with a discount - but in a few days they list them back at the original price :S There are however some great deals when you can find them. I snagged a AC Mothership and T-6 shuttle for $30 each today.

As I said I would here's the picture, I can't wait to put it together!

I also remember seeing the Fires Station but not at the list people have mentioned before... There were some POC sets also at 50% but they were smaller sets like Mills or smaller

    ^ I saw fire stations at $55

I stopped by WM last night, but nothing was marked down. I might make another pass tonight at the smaller one and head out to the Super WM in the morning. I would love to find a Falcon for under $70.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
Can anyone confirm whether these are being found in a devoted clearance aisle (like a lawn and garden area) or in the regular LEGO aisle? Also are these like the after Christmas sale where things are not marked? I'm sure it depends on the store. I know I saw one Walmart that had stuff I wanted in a devoted clearance area that was kind of a mess and almost nothing was marked on the shelf like the clearance aisle at another store I had visited. Just trying to gauge whether it's worth the wild goose chase at this point (and the gas). The manager at one store told me nothing is doing over there.

Thanks for the heads up on this, managed to get most of the AC sets I wanted at discount ($13 Tripod, $21 UFO Abduction and $20 Jet). Also found a T6 $30, Clone Turbo Tank $59, Police Mobile Station for around $21 and Apple Tree House for $22.

Passed on a Harbor, even for $45 just didn't do it for me. Maybe if my kids were more into boats.

@intromission The one I had success with had a makeshift clearance area setup outside of the main toy aisles. Kind of where the Christmas wrapping paper and decorations were before. They didn't put anything in the regular clearance area.

I stopped by 2 WM's in the last 24 hrs, one had a clearance section outside of the Garden Center. This store had a pretty good selection. Found some clearance items in the back of the store in the normal toy section as well. Price markdowns varied, some 50% off, some much less off. Picked up a 7052 that was marked on the shelf for $24, it scanned full price. Was given it for $24 when I produced a photo of the shelf with the sign. The 2nd Walmart did not have anything in the store clearance section. In the toy clearance I saw a 7288 for 50% off and a few games. In the regular Lego aisle they had Space Center for 50% off. My advice from my experience concurs with others, scan what you are interested in to confirm markdown. Also, to find the deals you need to check the store clearance section, toy clearance section (usually found along the edge of the toy area) and the regular Lego aisle. Happy hunting.

Ok, finally scored a Whitecap Bay. $40. Not the Target price I was hoping to get a while ago but good enough. That one's going in my son's birthday closet. Also got the Police Station. Passed on it many a time but at 50% I couldn't resist. We have the Forest Station but this one will be better for working into the DC storyline I figure. These were "next wave of clearance" prices.
Observations: Did pass on quite a bit of stuff. A lot of the prices that have been mentioned. The odd ones that hadn't hit this second wave yet: Turbo Tank (unfortunately) still at $99, and random Alien Conquest sets with the exception of the helicopter. I was kind of hoping for the tripod but it rang at $19. Guess I'll be keeping an eye out this weekend. Though I really need to watch the spending, I'm sure I'll somehow rationalize it with the tax return coming up.

    Psyched on Whitecap though.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
Found the Turbo Tank nearby at another Walmart for $59. Let the guilt commence. Funny how I never used to be the type to drop this kind of $$$ on
anything I thought might be frivolous, but lately buying LEGO for my son has made none of that matter. Someone please remind me that it is smarter to buy at these prices and then just add them to the stash in the closet. I need that reminder sometimes. Lol. The Turbo Tank really looks like a fun set. Great minfigures too. Ugh. Ok that's it. I'm done. No more buying. Even If I see the AQ tripod for $13. I noticed that at this Walmart the AQ helicopter was full price. Odd.

Anyway I think it's safe to say these prices are on folks. Good luck.

I saw a commercial on TV tonight that said Walmart is having a clearance of up to 50% on certain toys (and other stuf) starting Friday 2/3. The called it a "Red Ballon Clearance Event" or something. This was on CBS during the 8-9PM hour... so maybe it'll be more widespread starting tomorrow?

Cool! Thanks for the info guys, I found a Alien Conquest Mother ship for 30 bucks! I don't like the set too much from the box, and even for 30 bucks I was on the fence, but I just new I'd regret it if I didn't buy it

Since I'm on the West Coast, I'll look forward to waking up tomorrow to hear reports of how things unfolded in prior time zones.

I went to three Walmarts on the 1st and most the sets mentioned were still scanning at full price. One store had the sets in the clearance aisle, just without discount. The other two had them with the regular stock, and what made me the most pessimistic about the outlook of a reduction was the fact that the shelves had stock charts labeled "Spring 2012" and the Falcon, Frigate, QAR, Black Pearl, etc were all still shown on the grid.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
@canuhandle23 WOW! 5 Falcons??? That's incredible. I picked up a couple for $99 a few weeks ago but haven't caught another discount since. Its actually pretty rare to even find a falcon still on the shelves, however.

Found one store that had about 8 to 10 Hogwart's Castles 4842. They were pretty beat up but at 50% I took "most" of them.

Made a pretty good haul today but not any real big gems like the falcons, QAR or Turbo Tanks.

    Gunships
    Shuttle T-6
    Grievous
    Huts
    Police Station
    Police Truck
    Cargo Ships
    Smaller PotC

Passed on all the Alien, Cars, Ninjago and misc City stuff like the Marina. Actually, I did pick up an Ice Dragon for $7.50.

One Walmart raised their "Freeing Dobby's" back up to $11.00 and put them in clearance. Because they were just flying off the shelves at 50% :P

Yesterday, I picked up Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship 7930 for $25. I also picked up a bunch of the Iris Lego storage boxes which come with a base plate for $5. That is the lowest I have seen them. They fit perfectly in the Ikea Expedit shelves that we have.

They had a few other sets on not quite 50% off. I am going to try to hit another store today.

    Hit 2 WM's this morning...

One had some good 50% off Lego, the other (which was literally 5 miles away) had no Lego on clearance. Looks like certain stores decide when to drop their prices (if they ever do).
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142
either the sale today is non existant or everyone is to busy shopping to post :-)
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
I hit a WM this morning. Nothing too spectacular. Escape from London and Alien Mothership were the only big notables for 50% off. I don't collect PotC, and I already had a mothership so I passed on both of those.

I found a 5763 Dune Hopper for $5 (over 60% off) which I was excited to grab. Also grabbed a 5764 Rescue Robot for $9 (~45% off). They had a few small, $10 City sets for half off too but again passed on them (a police copter and an off-road fire rescue thing).

I scanned a few items from the regular Lego aisle and nothing scanned at a secret discount, including the one Millennium Falcon they had.

  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
The WM on my way to work also had the PotC Escape, Alien mothership and Cars2 Mack in the clearance aisle at 50% but I wasn't interested in those. Scanned my usuals in the main toy aisle and nothing marked down. Picked up a City police copter for $5 since I didn't have that. Going to check my other 2 usual WMs after work today but they typically run all the same with a slight variance in whats in the clearance aisle but never anything SW or a Queen Anne's =(

Did pick up 2 PoP Quest Against Time for $15 each at TJMaxx last night. First real deal I've found in my area.
  • benfoldsrockbenfoldsrock Member Posts: 8
Went to 1 today. Got 3 turbo clone for 59
    3 Jedi t6 for 30
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
My goodness. I don't think I've ever been to WM 3 times in the same day ever! I am beginning to think I am addicted to plastic crack. :-) Went to WM last night based on people grabbing some good SW sets for 50% off, but only found 3 of the Cars Flo's V8 Cafe for 50% off. Then, I was in WM again this morning for the clearance special. Still no SW LEGO's marked down. But, while I was in the store they announced that all clearance items are 50% off the marked down price! So, now I will go back later today and return the Cars sets and see if they will let me buy them back at the discount. I think they will, even TRU lets me do that when something goes on sale days after I bought it.
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142
So has anyone confirmed what this sale really is today.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
I spoke to the clerk working in toys at my WM, she said she had no knowledge of the sets like the SW M Falcon being marked down soon. Course, my WM only has 2 MF's, 3 QAR's, 1-2 SW Frigates. So, they don't have a ton of 2011 stuff to get rid off. But, on the flip side, if they do mark it down they aren't marking down too many sets. I wonder if it will be triggered by the 2012 sets? Because they will be in WM on 2/10 (later than Target and TRU). Maybe they won't reduce the 2011 items until they have the 2012 ones in stock? Course, I don't think logic applies to this situation. It seems to be store by store and the use of some magic formula?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Stopped by my only local WM in LA and found the following:

    Mobile Police Unit = $35 (22% off)
    AC Tripod = $13 (35% off)
    SW Geonosian SF = $15 (50% off)
    Prisoner Transport = $9 (55% off)

Sale is not as consistent as the first. Every store I've been to (around 10) has a different mix of items, if any. Some are just old sale items. Typically new clearance stock is separate from the normal displays. For example if your local WM reworked the Lego layout and it includes MF, Frigates, etc I've not seen one instance where those are also on clearance. Makes no sense really to spend all that work reworking the layout and then pull things out for clearance after the fact. Stores with larger lego aisles tend to have less clearance. If you see a section with an odd layout - a few SW, HP, etc mixed that's your target. Anything red tagged even if not fully 50% should ultimately be marked down at some point. Each store has to do it manually though and some are slow. I picked up a HP castle and some Star Wars sets by catching an employee this morning in the process of marking down the toys. They had just started marking toys down to 50% after 9AM this morning. Happy hunting
