Amazon.fr Shipping Price Hike.

I've just jumped onto Amazon.fr to pick up a the Apple Tree House, but have discovered that Amazon have removed the 'slow' shipping option. (Around 7 Euro, but 10+ days to deliver) They are now asking 30 Euro to ship to me. (To Australia, but in 2-5 days). I only ever made 1 purchase from them and it saved me a bundle, which was made better by the cheap shipping option and not having to pay all the tax. I had hoped that it was just over Christmas, (milking everyone, and getting deliveries made before the 25th), but we're now past Christmas, (only just, I know :P ), and my hopes have been dashed.

Has anyone seen this before with any of the Amazon's? Were the cheaper options returned? :/

Thanks.

I noticed the same thing so i emailed them last week asking about it and got the below response. I'm still don't really understand what they are saying since i tried different products and the cheaper option is never available. FYI, amazon Italy and Spain both have only one option for shipping (fast) but it is a flat rate of EUR20 no matter how much you order which is great if you have the finances to bulk order your wishlist.

    Dear Customer,

We understand your reaction and we apologise for any inconvenience that this misunderstanding may have caused.

Following your message I researched and I inform you that the items such as "Lego " that you had researched are catalogued as "Amazon Global".

Please note that Amazon. Fr implemented until now to restrict supplies of some items shipped to countries outside the European Union. However, location restrictions have been removed for some items and the delivery is now possible thanks to the Amazon Global Program.

Please also note that if you choose an item from the category of "Amazon Global", our system automatically determines the Flash option (2-4 days).

Moreover, some of our items can now be sent outside the European Union via the Amazon Global option and only in Flash option (2-4 days).

You will then automatically be proposed shipping when they want to take delivery of these items out of the European Union. As a reminder, the program Global estimates and collects customs fees and import taxes to the client ("Down Payment on import fees") to allow the carrier to pay for import on behalf of the client. This prevents the package is blocked at customs and the customer has to pay customs fees to get his package. The customer pays all costs when placing his order.

To learn more about down payment of import fees thank you for visiting our help pages :

    http://www.amazon.fr/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search__1-2?ie=UTF8&...

Therefore, to solve your problem, I advice you choose items on our website which are not party of part of Amazon Global. The cost of lightning may be cancelled in this case.

If you cannot find what you are looking for, please visit our Help Pages in English located at the following URL :

You will also find instructions in English on how to order from our Web site.

I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for choosing Amazon.fr.

That's a pretty weak response from Amazon. That doesn't really acknowledge that the cheaper option was removed, rather that items such as Lego never had it in the first place. I might message them when I get a minute, and see what they tell me.

It's not a shipping price hike, it's a price correction. Let's be realistic here. If I told you could order a LEGO set from halfway around the world and have it arrive, more often than not, in less than 7 business days for €8 euros would you believe me? For added reference, were I to order the Battle of Endor and the Train Station from amazon.es (Spain) and have it delivered to me in France, it would cost €8,37. When the intercontinental shipping costs are on par with international costs, you know somebody made a mistake.

^ Fair point, but that price has been in effect for a while now, right? And it was more like 10-15 business days. Besides, the express option is still very cheap, (considering). I can get the item from halfway across the world in 2-4 days, for only 33 Euro. Express shipping from the US would cost me in excess of US$60. What ticks me off is that I don't the option to ship slowly anymore. Even it were to cost 15 Euro, I'd still be happy.
