Recreating John Carpenter's "The Thing" in minifig scale

Some friends just opened the big Arctic base set from 2014, and naturally they want to figure out how to render The Thing in Lego. I Googled thinking this would be easy and there'd be lots of examples, but all I can find is a very low res (because it's from 2006) video on YouTube, a custom minfig of Kurt Russell's character, and versions of The Thing done with Bionicle parts.

Given the increasing number and variety of non-human minifig parts that have been released in the last few years, and people's creativity in turning non-minifig parts into monster/creature appendages, does anyone have any suggestions, or examples of Things you've made?
