IR RX 8884

It seems this thing comes in version 1 and version 2.

But lego.com only sells version 1...which seems very strange to me.

"This item is Version 1. Version 2 is not available for individual sale."

Does anyone know what's up with that??

I assume Version 2 is only available as part of a larger set? Could call Lego CS and ask what the difference is.

V2 is better. V2 only came in 4x4 Crawler. V2 costs a fortune now. CS can't do anything for you. There are no plans to make the V2 again. End of story. Sorry. I went through this last year.

    That sucks.

If they make a V2 of something, it just doesn't make sense that they would now only sell V1 of that same thing. I mean, who does that?

Also, still unexplained what the difference is. Is V2 demonstrably better? If so, why would they not sell it anymore?

I have a couple of v2 from train sets a few years ago. From what I remember, v2 is better able to cope with stacking motors on a single channel, or something like that.

There are a number of sites that explain why V2 is better, in pretty much every way. So much so that it makes no sense to sell V1 instead of V2.  Here is one:

I only recently learnt Lego is selling V1. That is indeed weird. I thought I gathered from Sariel's book that all new ones would be V2... :|

If v2s are worth a fortune, then i am quite happy! Just got my broken v1 replaced for free with a v2 by customer service.

If the V2 really always says V2 in big black letters, then at least indeed my 2 ordered from S@H are V1.

Ah, that's right, some got mixxed in with other sets and single packs back in 2013.
