Maybe it was in Belgium but for The Netherlands it certainly was not. For the last 3 days I checked the website a couple of times each day and until May 31 it said 'coming soon'. At 5 AM on June 1st I tried to order but is was already in backorder.
That's odd because I got the heads up from a post on a Dutch forum (tweakers.net) in the afternoon, with a link to the NL webshop. Then I checked the BE webshop and it was available there as well. Today I read that the orders for Dutch and Belgian customers have shipped, at least for those who ordered during that brief window.

And yes I agree that my Dutch neighbours also deserve a Lego store of their own, and a German price setting for both NL and BE. I really don't understand the 'low countries tax' we're supposed to pay.

@dutchlegofan50 you are right on being upset, but maybe I can explain why sans that some were able to buy and some weren't.

whenyou looked on the site it said 'available soon' and then if you clicked on the picture anyway then that button turned into 'add to bag' - it's very very strange. And shouldn't happen. Still, that might explain why some people managed to buy one.

This was the first time I wanted a day one purchase and it doesn't make any sense how this has been handled (or that John Lewis or Barnes and noble already sold it). It's baffling I agree.

@andywilson welcome to the forums and enjoy the building!

I picked mine up at the Lego Store in Des Peres, Missouri. There was a line with about 20 people, so they weren't handing out line tickets.

As a freebie, they were handing out #5004932 Passport 2017

Even the Technic Porsche came off backorder eventually, so will Saturn V. Once the quick flippers and Day 1 buyers have had their fill, this will be once again available. I think the Porsche is a good comparison, because those sets normally have a short shelf life. It launched July '16. I would guess Saturn will probably get a year.

I don't trust the Lego online store any more after the myriad of issues every time a sale is on recently. Since I was roughly in the vicinity (I'm using that term very loosely) of Oberhausen I paid the Lego store over there a visit. Around 7:00pm on the 1st they still had stock but the shelf had to be restocked almost continuously.

There was a very nice atmosphere in the store. Staff had put a display model on the counter and were showing off details while a group of kids looked on in awe.

This is now in the boot of my car:

Apparently backorders are now shipping in a month at best:

TBH, I had not expected there would be availability issues. Like plenty of people before the release on this forum I assumed TLG to have sufficient stock built up to meet initial demand. The availability in Oberhausen confirmed that view. It's just now that I learn of the issues in Belgium and The Netherlands, and only because it's too hot to sleep in my hotel room.

I have noticed that exclusives have longer runs and therefore have more stock but ideas sets are short lived and therefore have less stock and productions which leads to these issues
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Chicagoland USMember Posts: 9,435
IMO Ideas sets are not as 'short' in terms of runs any longer. I'm not sure if LEGO finally learned their lesson, but it seems like many Ideas sets have hung around much longer after the #21110 Research institute debacle. The Saturn V set seems wildly popular so it may go sooner, even with increased stocks as it appears retailers have these as well. However, I still see at least a years worth of a run for these.

I wish Toys 'R Us in the UK would get it - no sign of it on their website so I may call in to their bricks and mortar store today to ask what's happening. I don't want to buy it from Lego themselves at this point because between the backorder and Lego's eccentric timing for taking money out of your account, I really don't want to deal with that much money leaving my account in an unpredictable manner.

Well, Oberhausen is quite a small store, at least when I was there most shelves could only hold one or two of a single set.

In Wijnegem the Saturns were set out on display in front:

    No automatic alt text available

(Pic from Facebook, posted 31 may 20:00).

When I got there at 17:30 there were about 10 left, and while I was there I saw another 5 get sold. I don't know if what's on the picture was the full stock, I assume so as there was still room on the shelf so I would have filled it :-)

The more I see pics of this the more I want one.  My wife and I agreed that I'd slim down my collection and only collect a few themes going forward.  Does this count as Classic Space? ;-)

No, sorry. This counts as a City set (fire station) because it has something that takes off from a platform.

Well, there is a good chance it'll be considered a classic set allright :)

Mine is arriving today. Finally got through around 1 am after it went on sale and it shipped yesterday, arriving today.

I've never gotten a set so fast. I didn't order special shipping or pay extra.

Now I just need the rain forecasted on Sunday to keep me from having to do outdoor projects.

If you go to the actual set page for the U.S. [email protected], it says 'Temporarily Out of Stock' as opposed to the listing page that just lists it as 'Out of Stock' so I'm curious to see what happens from here.

So so glad I went to the LEGO Store to get mine. It was one of the most enjoyable builds I have done in a long time.

It had some repetitive parts, but the techniques were so creative that it never felt that way.

It is also surprisingly swooshable too.

I started building mine last night. I got to bag 7 and had to call it a night. Some of the parts are hard to get together without fiddling with the angle a little. I had a couple near catastrophes. It is very strong up to the point I'm at.

I ordered from Target yesterday after the US site went to backorder.  Today I got an email from Target that my order from them is now on backorder too.  Called the "local" Lego shop and they still have a few in stock so they are hold one for me until the end of tonight.

Holy cow! Did you build that fireplace yourself? Your cute dog seems to like it!

    Anyway: congrats. I'm jealous.

Wandered into the Lego Store this morning in San Diego and they received a new shipment so I was able to get one. Can't wait to build it but first I promised the wife I'd take her to see Wonder Woman tonight.

I'm sad and a bit conflicted. I was hoping to get this on release, but we're a bit tight on funds at the moment, so I've asked that no one will get it for me on Father's Day (or any other day). Everything here is telling me that it won't be long until it's gone. I suppose I'll have to live vicariously through your builds! Carry on!

Just picked mine up from the Mall of America B&N. They didn't have any out on the floor, but I had called ahead and they got one from the basement and held it for me.

Also checked the MOA Lego store and the shelf was empty but employee told me they had more behind the counter.

My lovely wife did not like the idea of putting UCS SW vehicles on our fireplace mantle.

    Stupid glass candleholders remain.

My order with [email protected] has moved along to 'In Warehouse'. With being my first purchase through [email protected], im not sure what that means but it has to be better than 'Backordered"

Hi All, i too wanted this on the first day only to discover it was already on backorder and my local Lego shop had sold out within minutes of opening, checking other forums this seems to be the case through most of the western world.  It can be obtained from other retailers.  In the UK John Lewis are stocking it, don't know about amazon as i haven't checked. but i tend to but from Lego to get the vip points.  Yes the exchange rates do seem to be wrong but Lego says they base their prices on a number of considerations for each country they sell in.

Looks like we're in the same boat. Those other expenses do have a way of insinuating themselves, don't they? I'm fine with waiting to get things, but I really hope there's a Saturn V in both our futures...

Now sold out at the Glasgow LEGO store. There was 1 there when I arrived but the box was damaged so I let it pass. When I went back later to fill my pick-a-brick tubs it was gone.

I will only build this when I have a display case that can hold it build without needing to worry about UV damage, as that is a lot of white parts.

Thanks, the fireplace came with the house, we don't actually use it so the dogs bed sits in front of it.

Thanks, fortunately my wife is just as big of a nerd as I am. Date night often starts with a trip to the PAB wall, we each get a cup and see who can pack the most in it (we weigh them when we get home).

Our dining room table has the Death Star 10188 as the centerpiece. It sits on a lazy susan and our 6 year old daughter plays with it all the time.

You're assuming your white parts will be pure white to start with. Like my UCS IS before it, my recently bought UCS Snowspeeder is made up of a variety of shades that could be considered white (blue-whites, creamy whites and proper brilliant white) some shading differences are  seen even between the same parts.

Well just because it may have different shades from the factory does not mean I want them all yellowed either.

They might yellow to a consistent shade! ;)
