^ I don't think this is the Lego blueprint. But @Legoboy thanks you as he will never be able to un-see the scale discrepancy now you've pointed it out.

Just got off of live chat with them. Dont know if that helps anyone. I would find it very disappointing to shell out £650 and not get anything exclusive, but, hey, the world we live in :(

That blueprint shows that the engines are mounted a little BELOW the center of the spars that attach them to the fuselage. In other words, the engines "hang down" a little compared to the rest of the ship. I don't think LEGO have ever gotten this right. I'll be getting this UCS Y-wing on Friday. I hope to be able to fix this issue without too much trouble.

^ if I win then you can have it for the brickset discount of £85k (£100k minus Ebay/Paypal tax) so I can have the sentiment of paying our mortgage off.  :P

Only the winner isn't going to think that the black card was an empty promise.

LEGO better get an exclusive Nien Nunb minifigure for black VIP card holders ready, or there will be a UCS MF buyers mutiny...

Personally, I'm getting a bit frakked off with the lack of promotional offers that were promised (so much for a year of them, half that year is already gone). Right now, it's feeling like I paid full price for a set that I could have waited until a local retailer got it & potentially saved 10-20% off RRP, just to get a funky black VIP card with my name on it (not that the card does anything for me apart from being a status symbol, as we have no official Lego stores).

Seems like many are on edge of the lack of promotions offered to the black VIP holders.  Me personally, I wasn't able to purchase one before the deadline.  I tried but the couple stores near me never had one in stock and I wasn't quick enough to secure one online.  Sure, I put minimum effort in purchasing one, but I'm not one to live my life chasing around Lego whether online or around town.  I believed I would of had an opportunity to purchase one before the deadline, but that obviously never happened.  Maybe TLG opts not to offer such exclusive offers to those who purchased before the deadline knowing that many wanted to, but demand outweighs supply.  If they do, that'll be great, I'll just buy on the secondary market if it's something I want.   Here's something that fits:

Nah....lego are coming up way short on the offers for the black card holders. Maybe I should have purchased the LEPIN Falcon and saved some coin.

My hopes are that it will provide owners with 'high-end' promos and deals that will largely appeal to only the adults and collectors, such as exclusive Minifigures or promotional sets similar to the convention exclusives etc.
In my opinion that would backfire on LEGO incredibly hard. You would essentially be creating a wealth bracket that entitles those that can afford an $800 set to special benefits. Not everyone has $800. I know such special benefit programs aren't unheard of, but I think in this case I think you'd have even greater backlash.

To the likely eventual counter point that "well they do that for SDCC figures", I still think those figures serve a significant purpose. Yes, a lot of people are trying to cash in on them, but the "hype" and neat figures still serve a role in marketing LEGO to a specific audience. If you're buying an $800 set, LEGO already knows you're into LEGO (whether that's for re-sale or collection).

^ They get to buy early at RRP, instead of waiting for a discount. I may have waited for another retailer like Smyths to stock if not for the perceived benefit of the black card offering exclusive promos.
Which is probably the exact reason they hinted at "special deals" through this card without actually stating anything concretely. It gets you to buy from them as opposed to another source.
Errr... didn’t we all just spend $800 dollars in the first place to get the special VIP cards (and the Falcon obviously), and therefore aren’t we the only people entitled to these promos???  Both of those being yes, why wouldn’t we want them to be ‘high end’ promos?
I'm not saying you don't want them to be high end promos. I'm saying everyone else (the majority who did not purchase a falcon) would hope they would not. Before I go any further, understand that I personally don't really care, I'm just stating my opinion.

LEGO isn't going to lose your business. You just spent $800 on a LEGO set and will likely be back for more no matter what the promos will be.

Making them high end would likely enrage the majority... they get peeved enough already with the SDCC ones and those actually serve a relative purpose as I described above. Potentially, turning them off from making purchases in the future. Seen it before already with just the SDCC figures.

Making them more high end would be a large risk for the majority while only making the minority a little bit happier. I just don't see any merit in them making the promos high end unless they plan to do something similar again in the future.
So I said the above back in January, and while it's always nice to be right...

I honestly didn't think it would be this bad, I actually feel sorry for you all so far. LEGO has seriously dropped the ball so far on these promotions, ya'll deserve better treatment than what they've done.

A really simple solution wouldve been 3x points instead of 2x for May 4. No logistical issues, it really isn't giving away much yet is still enticing to consumers, no one else is missing out on anything.

I think a nicely worded 'Thank You' for being a loyal customer is sufficient.

And maybe some free floor mats or some rustproofing?

Your initial post makes sense and captures my feelings as well.  However, your reply to yourself - look at me post - makes sense and and at the same time pretty funny.   Comical....... "feel sorry",  "dropped the ball", "deserve better treatment." really!!!

I'm not really all that hurt about the lack of promos. I thought we might get an exclusive, cool, obscure minifigure or two. Lego did promise promos throughout the year though, that's on them. I think where Lego really dropped the ball is not anticipating the demand and adjusting quickly enough to cover the desire for the Falcon and subsequent promos. Now nobody's happy.

Do we think the Vader battle pod will carry over into tomorrow? Maybe LEGO brand stores will do this to get rid of their remaining stock?
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
So if there is no email, there is no code you don't get the poster.... I have the card but never once received an email for anything to do with it... see how it goes tomorrow i guess

I checked my local store earlier and they still have some Vader pods. I'm 99% certain they will roll the promo over for as long as they have stock as they do that for every promo. At least it'll sweeten the deal for the Y-Wing slightly (even though I have no will-power so will be getting it regardless).

I hope someone wins that R2 who still has their Falcon, and didn't sell it on immediately for a profit. If the Y-wing was double VIP I probably get it. I may wait until next year.

^ I was thinking the same but read somewhere that the Y-Wing is exempt from x2 points.  Really annoying as I was all ready to place the order so now I’m left wondering what I need to spend £30 on!?
  • willp2003willp2003 Member Posts: 88
Yeah it is exempt, but I don't really know why. They don't normally do things like that. I don't want to buy anything else, but I've just done 46 hours overtime last month, so yeah I'll probably get it!

I never really expected it, but I hopped on board and bought the UCS Falcon tonight. The $90 or whatever I got from double points was a nice bonus, i'll use that on a UCS Snowspeeder at some point. I was glad they restocked it in time for May the 4th, I thought for sure they'd wait until after the promo to restock the Falcon.

  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,276
Well I guess I was wrong about the stores giving out Vader pods, despite having some left. The blueprint is also waaaay more pathetic than I was expecting. Hadn't looked at in detail but I'd assumed it was 1:1 scale with the actual model and on nice thick paper/ card stock. Wrong on both counts as it's not even A4/letter size.

Wow! That's even more underwhelming than I expected :O

Having placed an online order this morning, I'd considered going to a real store today to get a 2nd BB-8 and poster, but I really won't bother now.
  • Addicted2OxygenAddicted2Oxygen Member Posts: 470
@Brainslugged but is it folded? I assumed it would be larger than a4 but folded twice to make displaying it look hideous like they have done with previous posters.
  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,276
It's nIt's not folded as it isnt big enough to need to be. You can see a piece of white A4 paper under it. So the print is very slightly wider and not as tall. In fact I just measured and it's exactly US "letter" size. More annoying is the picture I will post next though...
