A few years ago, there was talk of all EU countries being obligated to adopt the euro. David Cameron had to go to Brussels to ask permission the retain the pound as an officially recognized currency. Cameron won that one, but he should never have HAD to ask for such a basic sovereign right. Britian was also promised that we would never be forced to bail out any Eurozone country, a promise that was forgotten as soon as the EU needed more money.
Although I don't regret buying it straight away, I was definitely looking forward to more than double VIP promotions. Virtually all Star Wars sets can be had with significantly better discounts at other retailers if you are patient.
Perhaps we should all threaten to return our unopened falcons if the Black Card benefits don't materalize in 2018. I'm sure that would go down well in the media! :)
But to promise something and not provide it is pretty crappy. As Yoda said: "Either do or do not. Don't say you will then just offer double VIP points on a bunch of sets that can be bought elsewhere for a lot less". Or something like that.
I'm sure class action lawsuits have been brought for lesser offenses. Hopefully the number of Falcon sales just outstripped the inventory of amazing freebies and Lego is currently ramping up supply in order to blow our socks off at the end of Q2. Or maybe not. Worst case scenario will be if there were some cool promos that have now been cancelled due to demand outstripping supply.
From LEGO Customer Service:
“Thanks for getting in touch with us.
I enjoyed reading your email, and I hope you've had a great time building the 75192 Millennium Falcon™!
I'll be sure to pass your feedback along to the Promotions Team. Due to the overwhelming response of the Falcon, we're really happy to hear that our fans are looking forward to the next promotion attached to the Falcon VIP cards!
Even though I can't disclose any details yet, we hope you'll keep an eye on your emails, because the Promotions Team likes to surprise our fans, (and us!), with the perks!
Happy Building!”There was also an image of the DJ polybag in the original 3 deals suggested on the Black VIP promo card but we've recently had DJ polybags in their droves at Tesco stores so the appeal is minimal if that's a freebie - I already bought 2. The third deal I think related to VIP points or discounts but was more vague.
i'm sure I'm just getting drawn into the marketing hype from the customer service team but the slightly generic comment of 'surprise' makes me hope the promo will at some point make available something that we haven't seen yet which is truly exclusive. A blueprint of the Y-Wing sounds nice but not "I'm going to spend (up to) full RRP for a lot of Star Wars sets" nice.
(Rodney Dangerfield says: Pewter? I hardly knew her!)
Maybe the winner of this unique piece has done the right thing by keeping quiet..
Why anyone outside of a millionaire / billionaire would keep something like that is beyond me.
And on a completely unrelated thought, if someone wants to offer me $100k for my Mr. Gold, I will hand-deliver it to you.
(By the way, I thought the exact same thing.)
I should also add that I think it's dumb that someone would pay that much for said bauble. But that's a different thing all together. When you are that wealthy you can afford such extravagances. It's irresponsible for pretty much everyone else.
also the 100k can then be spent on useful things by people who really need them.
Precious metal prices are screwy right now anyway, with Platinum being 10x rarer than gold, being more commercially useful than gold, but being less in favour with investors wanting to put their money in a safe place, it costs about 25% less. Before the 2007/2008 crash, platinum was markedly more expensive
than Gold and palladium was far cheaper than it is now.
@Bumblepants At least you don't need to buy the Y-Wing to get it:
Supposedly valid both online and in store.
Weak sauce.
Again, I'd have been happy with zero offers when I bought the Falcon and wasn't expecting anything too amazing, but these offers are starting to take the p!ss.
