    when did they reveal 10179?

Well, I remember seeing the first pictures from the NY toy fair Feb 2007. Was absolutely just blown away. I can remember pictures of the designer holding it in the air and delicately swooshing.

I know it was up for pre-order on [email protected] at some point in March (yes, pre-order!!) for delivery end of September, begining of October.
Received notification of required payment in September, and the beast arrived the beginning of October.
It's the only set I know of that was available for ordering 6 months prior to release.
LEGO must have been really nervous about putting that set into production.

The designer, at that time the head of SW team, built it in his free time and apparently had no company restrictions/requirements. Somewhere there are articles/interviews about this, unfortunately didn't find them with a quick search, but they're there somewhere.

And another post with no new information about a hopeful new release...

It was the pre-orders that got the Certificate of Authenticity.

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=10179cert&name=Paper, Certificate of Authenticity for Set 10179 Limited Edition&category=[Paper]#T=C&C=0

I don't know if all of them got it or just the first XXXX of them did,

If the rumour does turn out to be true, I’ll wonder how much of it was caused by Lepin.

For a long while the official line on releasing the 10179 seemed to be “not gonna happen, too expensive, nobody would buy it” while the aftermarket prices contradicted this by creeping up and up.

Then Lepin came along, and how many here were checking it regularly to see if the inevitable MF clone came out? I’m afraid I was, and I cracked like a cheese slope!

I’d personally thought that it might make LEGO *less* likely to make a new one, updated or otherwise. But on the other hand, it might’ve shown them the market really was there.

If anything tempted me to buy a Lepin set then #10179 is it. And of course, once you buy one set from Lepin, there would be a temptation to buy others! So far, I've resisted but if we don't get a re-release this year (or perhaps next year) then I probably will go for the Lepin version! :(

I'm wondering if they will unwittingly recreate a huge aftermarket boost for this rumored set. I mean, if $800 is beyond most people's barf point for a lego set and sales are poor which leads to them only having it available for a year or so, wouldn't that recreate what happened last time?

I believe LEGO produced 10'000 sets as Limited Edition with the certification.
Those sets left over after the pre-order ended were sold normally, so some customers received first edtion sets without pre-ordering until the first production run stock was sold-out.
But this was all ten years ago so I might be remembering alternative facts rather than what actually happened.

I could definitely see this happening, but there are far greater number of resellers than there was back then so the supply would be higher and prices would not go quite as high.

I hope the same pattern in sales happens with this version.  After a couple years on the market, this rumored set goes on sale for half off, the only difference being that this time I buy it when that happens.  I'm not very hopeful of that happening though.

I suspect it will lead to sales of a lot of the Lepin version, particularly if the LEGO version is available in Toys R Us, Target, and/or Walmart. A lot of parents and grandparents will see it on a shelf and balk at spending that kind of money for a toy for a child, so they will consult the internet to find it cheaper. I'm not talking about AFOLs, but rather the "uninformed masses" who have never heard of Lepin, and probably never would if a child did not ask them for such an expensive LEGO set. Not having $800 to drop on a set, but wanting to make the child happy, they type "LEGO UCS Millenium Falcon" into Google, hoping to find a lower price. That will lead them to the Lepin knock-offs at a fraction of the price.

Take this with a grain of salt, but when I jokingly asked a Lego store employee when the UCS MF was coming out, he blurted out "end of the year." and then quickly realized what he said, smiled and followed with "sorry sir, that set is retired."

We do?  Am I missing another thread here?  I went over to that other place and they were saying there was some kind of rumor being discussed here today, but besides the mostly nonsense in this thread, I don't see anything about it?  Is there a secret club forum somewhere this is being talked about?  Or is it right under my nose somewhere and I just don't see it?

Please tell me I wasn't the only one who went "holy Sh*t just got real"the instant they refreshed the Brickset home page and at first glance were greeted with a MF photo and thought there was THE MF Release news before realising it was just the May the 4th 40% off offer on the current MF play set ...??

Just goes to show the anticipation  level on this one, despite half the thread being about UCS Wooden sausages and whatnot

I definitely got excited when I saw a Falcon image. Then immediately disappointed when I realized what it was.

So if the UCS Millenium Falcon did not exist, this would be my favourite Version. The mid size Falcon.I couldn't really get myself to actually find the bloated shape of the last two renditions . Also this actually looks like the UCS MF miniature

Hey, respect the original. LEGO had to start somewhere. Though to be fair, I thought the original falcon was so ugly when it canned it I didn't ever buy one when I saw it on clearance.

Never seen that prototype Falcon before! To be honest while there are obviously inaccuracies (especially the shape of the window and the area between the front prongs), there are actually areas I like MORE than the original Falcon set (namely the larger amount of greeble in general).

Lyichir, that set was developed around the same time as the darn ugly 7190. It really shows what TLG designers can do versus bean counters and "focus groups", sigh

It has a numbeer of rare parts (the cockpit, the panels and those nifty 2x2x greebling tiles that I'm lucky to own a bunch of)

Yes, it's a wee bit fat and stubby but I like it very much. Looks like it has plenty of room (something that actual Falcon from SW does not have, it's just a TARDIS burger) for an interesting interior. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it actually was available

You might enjoy this site then :

    http://faberfiles.blogspot.dk/2015/09/flashback-lego-and-star-wars_14.html

    (Read all the SW parts)

Also, you guys are slacking off too much! No new silly rumours? I heard it comes with flick-sausages!

I know quite a few people at TLG/Billund and they're not talking. They're usually not clammed up like this (I knew of the Technic Porsche before it came out) so I guess something is up ;)

    Cheers,

    Ole

Ok, we haven't had any predictions for a while...

    a) 7000+ parts
    b) £700 - £800
    c) In a controversial move, only the rectangular satellite dish.  Owners of #10179 breathe a sigh of relief.
    d) Set contains fold out map of the Kessel run to scale, and is 900ft long, requiring largest ever Lego box.
    e) First 500 sets contain exclusive George Lucas minifig in bathtub full of money
    f) Retractable landing gear

    g) Set is not released, despite the internet hype
    h) Set is a "10188 revamped" 10179

To be honest I'd bet on both g+h equally. I do not expect a new fancy Falcon

I expect it to be smaller that the 10179 - especially if a full interior is indeed included.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
If making it to scale with the #75060 & giving it a proper interior means a smaller UCS Falcon, I'm on board. :)
  • willp2003willp2003 Member Posts: 88
I'll go against the majority and say that I'm not that bothered about an interior. That would just be a nice to have feature. I'd rather it looks fantastic on the outside (like Marshall bananas)

The URL trick from a couple years back doesn't bring me to a coming soon page like it did back then. Whoever posted that ruined it forever!! :P

Okay my prediction is that this will be announced on 25th May 2017 as that is the date Star Wars released in the US. Especially, as it is the 40th Anniversary and the 10th Anniversary year of the original set. then it will go on sale in October.
