Is there an issue with new sign-ups?

I recommended brickset and the forum to an acquaintance last week and he tried to sign up. He got a message in red on the forum registration page saying something along the lines of "you are not permitted to register at this time" or similar.

Is there a current block on new registrations or is this standard now?

No block that I'm aware of. We have to approve applications which can result in a similar message if they try to log in prior, but there are none outstanding to do at the moment.

Please make sure he completes the "Why do you want to join?" field with something suitable - it's there to help weed out spammers, and it's surprising how many people don't bother responding.

Sure. I'm guessing Viagra is the wrong answer :-)
