To start at the end, for this set, at least quick returns will depend on the release date.

If this is released before Christmas, and lego are cautious with numbers again, then it will probably be an excellent quick flip. It is the sort of set that if it goes OOS before Christmas and Little Tabitha has to have it under the tree, then it will be a good 50%+ almost instant return, although it will probably depend on RRP too. Even better if you can combine with an October or November promo. If it isn't released until after Christmas, then I wouldn't buy until much later in the year for resale.

I also wonder if they will have both this and the Saturn V released at the same time. In one way, it makes sense - two NASA sets to help market each other. In another way, it will probably get bad press from the bloggers, that boys get a detailed construction model, whereas girls get minuscule builds; the implication being that Lego doesn't think girls can cope with bigger building sets.
Isn't the fishing shack coming out sometime around then too?
I doubt there is so much overlap in fan-base for the fishing shack with the two NASA sets, aside from normal lego fans.

I'd be in that group interested in both the fishing store and NASA sets. Maybe more than you'd think.

Can we just bridge the gap and create a Women of Fishing set please?

Presumably as a Lego fan you'd also be interested in other Lego sets too. There will always be competing Lego products for the ideas sets for people that are Lego fans. However the outside fans, ones not into Lego, in general, but are into NASA and so possibly interested in the two NASA sets are less likely to be interested in the shack, just like they are less likely to be interested in all the other competing Lego product.

Wasn't there an old movie called Can of Worms? Something about a nerd who summoned aliens...I don't remember, I'll have to go watch it. Sorry, that was off topic. Continue

According to a presentation TLG gave at Japan Brickfest, the Women of NASA set will be released on 01 Dec 2017:

I really don't care either way about the promoting of this set.

it doesn't offend me nor cajole me to get it.

the market will determine its success: if popular (or speculatively popular), Lego will do well. And some LUGs will get the free promotion that goes with a hot selling, widely talked about set.

Cant wait for some female astronauts to go with the Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins figures we got in the Saturn V set.

    Hang on...

This set I worry about having a very short-run a la the Curiosity Rover.

You worry about that? I'm ok with it.

Has anyone submitted an actual brickbuilt can of worms to Ideas yet?

It better be filled with crude oil; some political, military, and controversial minifigures; realistic firearms, landmines and nuclear weapons;  and a dash of outmoded social mores with old-fashioned societal norms.

    IT'S METAPHORICAL!

(I should get some bonus points for quoting Taserface twice in one day.)

Because no one takes Taserface seriously?  Or because I used capital letters?

Funny, I was thinking about expanding my horizons to EB to increase potential trading partners.  Maybe I should try Brickpicker...

Eurobricks isn't that great for trading. Good for news and on topic conversation though.

I see that.  The Brickpicker Classifieds don't look too promising, either.
