Value of USED SDCC 2015 Superman Action Comics #1 Set?

TyresOFlahertyTyresOFlaherty USAMember Posts: 340
Hey, guys, so I went to Comic Con in 2015 and got the Superman Action Comics #1 set, put it together, had it on display for a few months, then carefully put it back in the box. I'd rather use its value towards another set(s) and I know someone out there will appreciate it more than I do (I'm more of a Star Wars guy than a superheroes guy).

I see that new ones are $300 plus on eBay/BL, would $250 be too much to ask for a used one?

Located in Utah, USA. Possibly interested in trades as well.

Smoke-free home (I'd say pet-free too, but we do have a parrot, but she's never anywhere near the Lego) :)

Ohhh I don't know.  I would have thought a piece of eight would suffice.

    [I am really really sorry]

I have to admit, @Legoboy, that one went right over my head...

I'm guessing that as you have a parrot, then you must be a pirate, hence pieces of eight ...

Yes, money and parrots = pieces of eight.  Bad I know.

It wouldn't hurt to list it at that much (unless you're in a big rush to unload it).  Personally I would list it lower, but there is very little data on that set selling "used" so who's to say what it would/could sell for.

@TyresOFlaherty I know nothing about what this is worth but Spaced is my favourite tv show of all time so had to say how awesome your name is. Good luck with the sale and oi! Oi! You lucky people!

If you do sell it on BL or eBay, I wouldn't just say used for a set like this. Accurately describe the condition and you'll get a better price than just used (if it is in great condition).

Yes! I will tonight once I get home.

To hold you over, here's one from the night I got it (the photo has it still sealed, which it obviously isn't now):

    @princedraven

Alright, here come a ton of images, but I wanted to be thorough:

Here's that roof piece for you, @AllBrick, it's just $249, the rest is just $1!! :)

Cape has been used, and placed back in the box it came in. All original pieces from SDCC, no replacements.

Superman not looking too happy about being put back in the bag....

PM me with any offers, thanks!

I'd be interested for delivery to @pitfall but I'd almost be too embarrassed to offer.  No idea what an open one would be worth.

    ^I think it's just a 1 = 1 ratio. One piece of eight = $1. ...right?

Or is it one piece of eight is $8...

    I'm confused :)

I thought the piece of eight joke was because the deal was so good it was like piracy. I also missed the parrot angle.

It's 1=1. The 8 is because the Spanish denomination is 8 reales.

I did it, but not so quickly. My coin nerd side got distracted. :P

The dollar was based on worn pieces of eight, about 0.7733 troy ounces of silver. The metal is worth about $13.24 or 10 pounds 54 pence today.
The equivalent British coin was a crown, 0.25 pounds, with about 0.8411 troy ounces of silver. 0.7733/0.8411=0.9194, so a dollar or worn piece of eight was worth about 0.23 pounds at the time

@sklamb - A nice thought, but unfortunately it's only available in that color in this set.

Thus the price being asked...more than the complete, sealed sets available...which was actually my point. Apparently the price @TyresOFlaherty quoted @Allbrick was actually something of a bargain. Or something. Personally, I'd rather Bricklink the set with a red car and claim I was red-green colorblind....
