Hercules characters just seems so random.  I would have expected a Goofy and Pluto, but that gives me hope for a S3.

Maybe I can start wishing for a Great Mouse Detective or a Cruella De Vile.

Better Edna, Frozone!, Jasmine, and Jafar I'll definitely get. The rest are a maybe.

Seeing as Chip & Dale have different head moulds I kind of wish they'd done for the Rescue Rangers versions of them.

I guess Mickey and Minnie explain the new pieces for Steamboat Willie, but it does seem odd for them to be on the shelves at the same time.
I like that Frozone has an unprinted version of the circle that was used in TLBM for Polkadot man.

    Overall I'm pretty happy

I was hoping for some Toy Story ones, given the 4th film coming out soon and Buzz and the Alien in the first series... No Woody :(((
I'll just want Jasmine and Jafar, Elsa and Anna, Chip and Dale, Jack and Sally and maybe Hercules and its nemesis.

There will be many figs in the Toy Story 4 line of sets though. 👍

I know. But the Juniors/+4 line is just so overpriced... I don't plan on buying any of them, I'll probably just get the figs later.
But from a minifig collector point of view, more Toy Story figs would have made some sense, IMO.

I imagine here they do not want to cannibalise sales of the (cheap) Toy Story sets by including characters in the CMF. Whereas Mickey and Minnie overlap with an expensive adult set that Disney collectors will get anyway.

I think the characters are great, except the Hercules ones. I don't have any interest in the Incredibles ones, but they make sense to fill in gaps in the sets. Anna and Elsa are superb. Even Hercules would have been great for me if those legs were (BL) light flesh rather than flesh. I've been after a fleshie leather skirt type piece for Roman soldiers for years and that would have been great if they had made him light flesh.

My problem with this is that:
    - the TS sets are tagged +4, and therefore directed (by them) for very young kids (we all know we ignore this, but it's LEGO's classification, not mine)
    - they (LEGO) are assuming that a minifig collector doesn't collect only minifigs from the minifigure theme (or that, like I've been told by LEGO CS once, I can always resort to social media or other platforms to aquire/trade minifigures)
    - the sets are not that cheap, given their content

Mickey and Minnie, this time, are a special version, as they were already included in the first series. Therefore, there's no gap to fill there (only the lack of Goofy).

I am disappointed by the lack of sorcerer Mickey and the Hercules figs are questionable. Love chip and Dale, the rest are great but worse selection than s1 imo
  • pxchrispxchris Member Posts: 2,438
I think I'll grab the Aladdin figs, and Scrooge, but that's probably it. Perhaps Chip & Dale...

    Pretty disappointed overall actually.

Not quite sure how I feel at this point. I think confused by the Mickey and Minnie figs as well as the Hercules figs. I'm not a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan, so those are sort of throwaway ones for me too.

But I'm such an avid Disney collector that I'll likely buy up the whole set. But with the black and white Mickey/Minnie figs, it'll likely delay my Steamboat Willie purchase considerably.

Getting these! Hoping @MinifiguresPlus opens preorders soon!
  • mustang69mustang69 Member Posts: 544
I'll probably get The Nightmare Before Christmas figs but none of the rest really interest me.

I think for the Mickey and Minnie maybe they wanted people to have access the black and white minifigs without having to shell out $90 for the Ideas set. Just my speculation anyway.

It usually works the other way.  (Exclusive Tuxedo Mickey Mouse in the Cinderella Castle...)

    I'd rather have seen a Sorcerer's Mickey.

I'm pretty excited for these. Chip 'n' dale are my favourites, love the Ducktales, love Nightmare before Christmas, Jafar is great too.

Like others, I think that the black and white Mickey and Minnie are a bit strange, I already though Steamboat Willie was expensive (I really like it but it's steep). when i'm getting some cool figs I don't mind too much, but now it's going to make me think three times before I buy this set.

Hercules seems a bit odd, although I am a big fan of the film.

Frozone, I was first excited for ourselves, next, I thought of @SumoLego too, we are really brainwashed aren't we :)

Taking a closer look, I just realized the thing I'm most excited about from this series...

Chip & Dale have the medium size pose-able legs (teenager legs) in reddish brown and (?) medium dark flesh!!

@monkyby87 has suggested that the Steamboat Willie set may have been in development before it ever got approved on Ideas, and linked to the Ideas set to avoid a repeat of the Ghostbusters HQ fiasco. I'll take that theory a step further and guess that the designers started work based off of the larger Steamboat Willie set submitted by Lego_Tryx.

    https://ideas.lego.com/projects/1a2adaa9-bb5a-4d12-a00e-51a2c4e4d1bb

The larger set got less than 200 votes, and the larger Steamboat Willie set could have been released outside of Ideas, but then @szabomate90 went and made a pocket-money sized version that got 10K votes, leaving LEGO with a set that bears little resemblance to the approved set other than the name. Better to tie the set to the wrong ideas submission than deal with the PR fallout.

Those Mickey and Minnie minifigs really put a drain on my desire to get that new Steamboat set anytime soon

I doubt they stole an idea from a submission that got less than 200 votes. If they did already have one going through the works before the smaller one made it to 10,000, it wouldn't surprise me if they had thought of what variants of Mickey Mouse they should make back in the design stages of the 1st CMF series, and that led to their own idea of a Steamboat Willie set.

So, discounting new heads and Jack Skellington's "bone collar", Jasmine's bird is the only new accessory in this series?  It seems like the last few series have throttled back on CMFs as a source of unique minfig accessories.
  • gmonkey76gmonkey76 Member Posts: 1,833
^not sure what came first but the bird is also in a Disney Princess set too this year.

I imagine a lot of the budget goes in new head molds in these CMF series.  The first Disney series was the same.

I don’t get the Hercules hate. Why is it so weird that they’ve included them? I’m more surprised by inclusions like chip and dale, to be honest (though I’m not complaining, I love them!)
like many others, I’ll settle for these mickey and minnie and won’t bother buying the steamboat set.
I’m getting all of these, because I like them all (my least favourite are the triplets, but mostly just because they’ve taken up three spots..)

Quite excited for these. I have no interest in Hercules but will get them for the sake of completion. I'm also puzzled by the black and white Minnie and Mickey. I'd already decided to pick up the Steamboat Willie set so these seem like a wasted spot. But regardless this looks like a really fun series, the kids are going to be super excited to get them.

It's not 'hate' on my part, it's just an oddly random choice.  I'm not sure if there is an upcoming Hercules-related thing coming up.

I'd have the same opinion if Chicken Little, Treasure Planet, Oliver & Company or the Rescuers were the subject of two figures.

I'm not bothered by Hercules. There are so many Disney characters to make into CMF's, that I'm sure there will be a Series 3. I was getting worried that there wouldn't be a Series 2.

The most exciting fig here is def Scrooge McDuck! I'm pretty happy with the selection overall, but Scrooge is one of my all time favorite Disney characters (thanks to the stacks of Gladstone comics I loved as a kid) and the very last character I ever expected to see. That he's accompanied by the nephews is just adding perfection on an already perfect offering.

Hades is the main villain in the Descendants film due out this year. I dunno if that merits a Lego minifig though? It's a bit like releasing High School Musical CMFs.

    Heads, hair and Hades legs.

at least there are some nice prints and recolours on some of the accessories.

Getting all of them.  I love the black and white variants of Mickey and Minnie actually, but I'm not getting the Ideas set so it works for me.  I'm not sure who Frozone and Edna (I think that's what they're called?) are, but I'll get them for completion since theres only two, and my penchant for liking Disney probably means that if I ever find out who they are i'll want them.

I've become more a minifigure collector than anything else as of late ... I keep saying no more CMF but then...

I find it rather odd that we have nearly the entire cast of Aladdin between the two series, but none of the animal companions received new pieces... at least not any of the smaller animals. Why was Iago and Abu ignored by LEGO? You can't tell me they can release an Aladdin set based on the live action version and give them to us there, because that seems rather out there in terms of actually going to happen.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,477
Probably didn't have the budget for that many new licence specific moulds for them - but the only people who could give a definite answer are at LEGO and Disney ;-)

Is this the first time we're getting printing on the inside of legs? It looks like the printing on the feet go all around. The legs itself look like they're double moulded.

Those are renders, and I doubt we will get inner leg / feet printing. To do so would mean the parts being printed individually, then assembled, which is a change from the current method.

Don't get your hopes up, think that's just an overly done digital render.
