For Trade: Sealed 10179 Millennium Falcon (Box not mint)

Hey folks,

I have a sealed 10179 Millennium Falcon I'm keep to trade for some newer sets. Unfortunately the box is a bit hurt from serious shelf-wear in one corner, and minor water damage in the corner - as per picture below. Box was opened to check condition and everything inside is mint. It's just the exterior box that is damaged. Have pictures but for some reason they're not embedding - can PM them to interested people.

I'm particularly interested in bulk polybags, but am potentially open to a huge range of sets (including multiples). However I'm only really interested in new (sealed) sets. Could be open to bricklink store credit if you have lots of sets.

My guess is that this is worth ~$4000 US, so am looking for roughly this kind of value in exchange.

Strictly no sales at this stage. Might consider selling later in the year if I can't trade.

Happy to deal internationally.

Look forward to discussing options!

You probably need to define what you mean by sealed if this has already been opened.

    Hi Butcha...
Butcha is the surname of one of my pseudonyms, Aled Butcha.

Sorry to put a downer on things but, this one is built and the box is mint for $2k. I think the $4k estimate you've placed on it is too high, sealed in the original shipping box is around $4k - $5k if I'm not mistaken. Also, there is the white elephant rumour that there could be a re-release of #10179 which will hamper your sale.

Just my 2 pence worth, GLWS.

I think also with a box like this with heavy damage, (Especially water damage!!!!), buyers may be taking a risk that the instructions and stickers may be damaged...

If you are willing to take the risk to see inside and pop the seals, may bring buyers to ease to know that these certain items are not damaged. Also as @AllBrick noted, estimate is quite high given the condition. If I were to price this, I would be looking at new sets with no box to give a good price range.

Hey guys.  No cool to dis a sellers asking price publicly like this.  Probably shouldn't make these comments publicly especially if you are not interested in buying.

All good guys. The set box has been opened to make sure instructions etc are all mint (and they are), all bags are sealed.
A set in similar condition is on Bricklink for $4000 & is the cheapest new set listed, so I think it's in the right ballpark - maybe a few hundred over but given I'm hoping to trade, exact dollar figure isn't too relevant anyway.

If anyone is interested in a trade, please do let me know :)

The problem with trading for a $4,000 set (from a new member as well) is a lack of protection. May I advise, if a trade is worked out, both parties pay each other the respective amounts through Paypal, so you both have protection?

Good idea in theory, but do many people have $4k sitting idly in PayPal. lol

^ Do many have $4k idling in sets?

You don't need to. Use a credit card. If you had $4K in Paypal and used it with Friends and Family, then you'd have no protection.

I think the market for this is probably quite small. You'll need someone in NZ to meet up with and trade that way.  Unless you can find someone that will send $4K worth of stuff internationally and hope it works out.
