    Linked from the front page, but lots of good info released on the Mountain:

    https://brickset.com/article/28091/21137-the-mountain-cave-press-release

    And the BS page has a ton of pics:

    Why is there a single 2x2 tan brick next to the brick separator?

    Did everyone spot the white mug of golden apples in the video linked to #21137 The Mountain Cave? Is there a golden apple hidden away in this set? It's not listed in the set's description. Maybe we will get one in #21135 The Crafting Box 2.0 or #21136 The Ocean Monument?

    Definitely a must buy for me but I will probably wait for a decent VIP deal before I spend £260 on it. That being said, I spend way more than that every month on LEGO anyway! And Minecraft is one of my faviourate themes. :)

    I spotted a golden apple in a minecart on one of the photos attached to #21137 The Mountain Cave! :D

    I've finally had some time to look at all the pics and I think this looks absolutely fantastic. There are so many details and elements to it, including a lot of new ones for the Minecraft theme.
    As usual, and similar to other posts in the news article, I have to comment on the fact that TLG has favoured the US massively in the pricing of this set, which is indefensible. It also looks like the EU also has a favourable price.

    UK: £259.99
    US: $249.99 (equivalent to £191.77)
    EU: 249.99€ (equivalent to £214.93)

    This makes it look like we're being, at a minimum, £45 overcharged for this set, £68-odd when compared to the US price, which is disgusting.

    This is not currency or Brexit-related, as that price differential is a significant percentage.

    Extremely disappointing.

    @JudgeChuck, be interesting to see if the UK or Australia ends up with the worst price for this one, there have been a few you guys beat us on, but we've had some pretty out there prices too.

    Wouldn't be too difficult to copy it from the image if you bought a bunch of pink bricks. I say do it and then show it off on the moc page.

    Same here! That one is actually just a prototype. The final version (as seen on the back of box pic) seems to use the same plate-based spinning element used for one of the rides in the Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster, but in grey (much more useful than the yellow that it had previously appeared in).

    Just built #21132 Jungle Temple. Found it a really satisfying build. Great colour scheme. One of the best medium sized Minecraft set so far in my opinion. I could buy with 15% discount, so the price was not too much of an obstacle.

    I like all those dark green 1x1 tiles. Might have to keep an eye out for a good deal on that one for the parts.
  • SeanTheCollectorSeanTheCollector Member Posts: 765
    I was just working out a rough parts list for the Pink Pig Base (pictured 8 posts above) when I discovered that there are no sets listed in brickset with Light Purple 2x2 jumper tiles! Unless someone has seen this part on a new set or an old one not currently listed in brickset database?
    I think I will have to put the project on hold until they start using the part in normal production. :(

    Saw box art of crafting box 2.0 on Instagram, 717 parts. On my phone so someone else can find and post the pic and reap all the like glory. Looks like a good parts pack for when it goes on sale.

    guessing the dark grey bits with light grey spots in the crafting box represent andesite. Also, Steve and Alex are idiots going into an ocean monument with hardly any armor.

    I think there is a bit of laziness with the recent Minecraft sets.  (Although based on the game, I suppose that cam be expected.)

    @Bumblepants - I'm sure all of those 2x4 sand green bricks will be less than impressive.  No 1x8s...

    @SumoLego I spy some 1x6s at least. And the 2xXs can build up scenery. The question for me is: how cheap will this eventually go on Amazon or Walmart clearance shelves?

    Just watched Jang's review of #21137 The Mountain Cave:

    https://youtu.be/GPQk_oRsvkU

    That just makes me want it all the more! Loads of new elements and what looks like a really fun build, along with massive playability / displayability.

    I'm not 100% convinced by #21136 The Ocean Monument, as it is rather bland on the outside, but that's not surprising, given the source material. I am looking forward to seeing what they've done inside and for play features.

    #21135 Crafting Box 2.0 looks like it adds some fun looking mini-builds, to add to your overall scenes, as well as another horse and more slimes, which is great. @IceCreamClone yes, I think you're right calling out the Andesite blocks there.
    What do you all think the green bracelets on top of pink 1x1 round studs are meant to be? I can only think of Beetroots...

    @JudgeChuck I think you're right about those beetroots. I can't think of anything else.
    Also, I have a feeling the next D2C Minecraft set will probably be a woodland mansion, or an End City. I think I would like the End City more.
  • IceCreamCloneIceCreamClone Member Posts: 83
    Also, I just realized that TLG has been doing minifig-scale Minecraft sets for about 3 years now, and we still haven't gotten a single chicken. What's up with that?

    Man, the ocean set would have been a perfect opportunity for LEGO to reintroduce sand green 1x8 bricks and maybe even the groved brick. It would be nice to be able to source the green grocer and statue of liberty cheaper.

    I am attempting to collect 100% of the existing Minecraft sets, with the intention of getting them all on display together.  Budgets tend to cramp my style, and every time I get everything currently out, a new wave or D2C set comes out!  Currently I am just missing #21137 The Mountain Cave, one of the Skin Packs (I ordered it 4 months ago and it was back ordered till June, and they cancelled my order a few weeks ago....) and #21137 Ice Spikes (which I haven't been able to find on sale yet and hate paying full price for).  I am going to be at the MOA Lego Store tomorrow and am hoping to grab The Mountain Cave set and the other Skin Pack if they have it in.  In anticipation of being pretty close to complete, I have started unpacking my Minecraft sets.  I put them together with my kids and we play with them together, so when they go into the storage boxes, they tend to be a mess.  Wish me luck, there are a few hundred  loose random bricks in the bottom of the box, here is what I have pulled out so far:

    Just looked at the extra photos for #21135 The Crafting Box 2.0 and #21136 The Ocean Monument.

    The Crafting Box has a new golden pickaxe and a new gray horse. The beetroots are also new but easy to reproduce.

    The Ocean Moment is much more unqiue being the first underwater set. However, the photos of inside are still lacking. What is Steve looking at when the inside area is exposed? It looks like gold jumper plates on tan bricks? Is it a special ore? I don't play Minecraft myself so don't know what to expect inside an Ocean Monument. There is also a push mechanism at the back to expose something from inside but the photos don't show the mechanism in action.

    This is actually a pretty cool play feature if it works like it seems. The treasure chamber is filled with water, so Steve is using a sponge (yellow block with gray 1x1s) to soak it up. This is apparently simulated by pushing the block down onto the blue 1x2 jumper above the entrance, which moves the levers to open the entrance and "soak up" the water. It appears there is also a wet sponge block (with blue 1x1s) to replace the dry.

    In the treasure chamber is a 2x2 cube of gold blocks encased in a layer of prismarine. I assume the 2x2 jumpers are pearl gold but I can't tell if the bricks are, as well. It looks like the mechanism at the back removes the prismarine to reveal the gold blocks.

    There are a couple other nice details. Elder Guardians (the tan and purple creature) cast Mining Fatigue, making it difficult to dig/mine in an Ocean Monument. Alex is carrying a bucket of milk; drinking milk removes status effects. There's also a furnace included. Putting a sponge in a furnace will dry it out and allow it to be used again to soak up more water.

    Anyone know of any microscale Minecraft MOCs like the first four official sets that came out?
  • msandersmsanders Member Posts: 1,017
    I'm slowly being sucked in by Lego Minecraft. At the beginning I thought the sets looked strange and too blocky for my liking. Then the Fort came out and I love castles, but still I resisted. Then the village, and I resisted! Now the Nether train, the mountain cave and the ocean monument! Argh, you're killing me Lego.

    I 'caved' in and bought the Nether train yeaterday for the cool tracks but also in potential preparation for expanding the track in the mountain cave. Haha. I have some birthday money that was earmarked for the Carousel. Then Saturn V came out, the London bus and the Ninjago City!!!!! Plus the fishing shop ideas set. What do I buy?!?! The mountain cave looks huge and great value for money but I love the look of the others sets above as well! Help!

    @msanders: That's almost exactly what happened to me! Though I caved way sooner than you did, or I should say my uncertainty about the Minecraft sets caved but my budget has kept me from getting many. My collection consists of the Iron Golem set and Skin Pack 2. The Crafting Box 2.0 will be joining them once it is released.
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
    I'm very thankful that I came out of my DA just as the first mini-fig scale sets were being released, so I only had to pick up the micro-scale sets from the reseller / second hand market and have been able to get all the sets at a sedate pace, as they are released.
    I also have a fair few Ninjago sets, including the Temple, but was hoping to slow down on those and concentrate on Advanced / Modular / Ideas sets and then they bring out Ninjago City! I suppose it counts as an Advanced / Modular set. :-)

    I added #21137 The Mountain Cave to my Minecraft collection yesterday which is once again on display behind my home office desk. I had to add a small Ikea MELLTORP table next to my BILLYs since the mountain when built is way too big to stick on a billy shelf! :)

    Note how the box dwarfs all previous Minecraft boxes! The new UCS Millenium Falcon (which has yet to be officially announced) appears to have the same width and height but double the depth, and probably triple the price! :D

    I'm just missing #21135 The Crafting Box 2.0 and #21136 The Ocean Monument now. I checked out the back of the ocean monument box yesterday and the possibilities for the set are way more interesting than initially appear. The structure completely opens out! However, it looks incredibly poor value for money at £120 compared to #70618 Destiny's Bounty which is £110. I decided to pick up the latter yesterday and wait till I could get the former for at least 30% off later in the year!

    Frankly, Minecraft is such a perfect fit for LEGO, I can't see any chance that it would be discontinued. There is still lots of stuff they haven't done yet. There is also Minecraft the Movie coming out in 2019! :)

    I am interested to know how well the #D2c Minecraft sets are doing? Only 90 members on brickset have bought #21137 The Mountain Cave so far (me included) and only 353 have bought #21128 The Village (although I have 2 copies!).

    It does annoy me that the UK is getting shafted price wise on all of this year's sets!
    • #21129 The Mushroom Island $19.99 -> £19.99
    • #21130 The Nether Railway $29.99 -> £39.99
    • #21131 The Ice Spikes $39.99 -> £45.99
    • #21132 The Jungle Temple $49.99 -> £54.99
    • #21133 The Witch Hut $59.99 -> £64.99
    • #21134 The Waterfall Base $69.99 -> £74.99
    • #21135 The Crafting Box 2.0 $59.99 -> £79.99
    • #21136 The Ocean Monument $119.99 -> £119.99
    • #21137 The Mountain Cave $249.99 -> £259.99
    Compare these price differentials to the new Ninjago Movie sets which on a whole are significantly cheaper in the UK! For example:
    • #70618 Destiny's Bounty $159.99 -> £109.99
    Thank god for decent competition in the UK which will guarantee at least 1/3 off for all non D2C sets! As long as you are patient! :)

    I wouldn't put much weight in the Brickset statistics.  I've purchased seven of The Village, and haven't listed it in my inventory of sets.

    In the next few years I'll think you'll start seeing re-issues of the first round of sets.

    My daughters and I finished building #21137 The Mountain Cave yesterday and it is absolutely massive. It's as tall as a modular but far bulkier, unsurprisingly.

    Apologies for the absolutely terrible, quickly-taken, badly-lit photo!

    @SeanTheCollector I've been complaining regularly about the relative pricing of LEGO Minecraft sets in the UK. I am afraid that it just seems to be one of those themes that we're going to pay through the nose for.

    Like you, I just need to pick up #21135 The Crafting Box and #21136 The Ocean Monument to complete the collection (so far)!

    There will be 2018 sets for the winter wave. Can't reveal my source but I guess someone like CM4S or Sir von Lego can confirm this.
