My birthday today, and not only did my wife buy me the #9396 Technic Helicopter that I'd asked for, she then surprised me with a #10220 VW Camper Van.
Add to that some friends of ours bought me the Technic Builders Guide, and I'm very happy indeed!
@kevbags LUCKY You!!! I would love to find that set for my airport!! LOL Have fun!
Myself, I am having to rebuild 7 sets from ECCC. I dropped my totes and Darth Maul, Sandcrawler, Sail Barge, IS, Yoda, AT-ST and R2D2 decided they didn't wanna stay in totes, so............I have rebuilt IS, AT-ST and bottom half of Darth Maul. Still have quite a few to go. At least my autograph plate from Darth Maul decided to behave :)
Lord of the Rings Ringwraiths- Nazgul
My first modular.
May God have mercy on my soul.

Now, I'm not fanatical about Star Wars, nor have I paid it much attention in the past decade. But I grew up with the movies as a kid, had many of the original Kenner toys, read the novels in the early/mid-90s, and absolutely loved the PC games X-Wing and TIE Fighter. So of course I had looked at LEGO's Star Wars offerings. They seemed too expensive, weren't particularly faithful to the source material, were too focused on minifigs, etc.
But regaining interest in something can have a profound effect on your perception of value. Recently, my 2.5-year-old son and I stumbled across the old Droids cartoon on YouTube, and he enjoyed it. That led to me digging out my old books, such as Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales from Jabba's Palace, etc. Not too long after that I noticed 9490 Droid Escape at slight discount while making an after-work grocery run. I thought my son might like it, so I picked it up. And yes, he had fun swooshing the escape pod, but I wasn't particularly impressed. However, it did get me to take a second look at the Star Wars sets. Now, that X-Wing doesn't look too bad, the Y-Wing is actually pretty nice, and Artoo and Threepio would go so well with the rest of the main characters included with the Millennium Falcon! Surely, it wouldn't be too difficult to collect only the iconic sets from A New Hope (my favorite in the series).
And then Amazon dropped the price of 9496 Desert Skiff to $16 and change. I built it last night, and while I wasn't impressed by the build, the playability is pretty good. And, oh, the minifigs. Now I'm kicking myself for not jumping on that $83 Jabba's Palace in my Amazon gold box deals the other day, I still want the iconic ships from A New Hope, and I need the sail barge and a second skiff to go along with the skiff I already have. But I'm drawing the line at the Rancor Pit. Unless it hits 35% off.
(I have a 2.5 year old as well and not sure I'd show him droids, bit violent isnt it)
Oh, and I sent the USA Today article about the UCS Millenium Falcon's value to my father and father-in-law. Both currently think LEGO is a bit weird for a 39 year old. Hopefully this will help them to see the light. Maybe they will buy me an MF for Christmas!
