Quick story: Well, it was my 50th birthday over the weekend and my Aged Ps, brother and one of my two sisters (plus husband and one of their children) came from various parts of the country to join my family and me on a jaunt to the south coast and a fish & chip supper. (If you are in Hastings and in need of sustenance, I can highly recommend Maggie's Fish & Chips in Hastings Old Town).
We were supposed to leave relatively early, but people got delayed a little, however eventually all had arrived at my house. Cue demands to open all my presents and cards. Next thing I know there's a knock at the door and one of my best friends plus his son (also my godson) turned up to wish me Happy Birthday. This was quickly followed by an *enormous* package being produced from out of nowhere in, rather giving part of the game away, a Lego carrier bag!
Upon opening said wrapped package, I discovered #75159 Death Star!! My brother, two sisters and three best friends had clubbed together and somehow manage to snaffle the last one that had been sitting in Lego Bluewater! To say I was somewhat overcome is an understatement!
It was a wonderful start to a fabulous day all round. :-)
I have no idea where it's going to go at the moment, so will have to do some more sorting and packing away of sets to find some room! :-D
Couldn't resist putting it in front of the binary suns.
Fantastic little set with some inventive building techniques for such a small set.
Thanks again @BooTheMightyHamster. Really enjoyed this one.
While photography is most certainly NOT my skill (as evidenced by the other build/collection photos I've posted) I have been wanting to up my game at least a little bit. I have had this scene idea in mind for a little while and wanted to try my hand at bringing it together. Fairly satisfied with the initial results.
Red Beard certainly has it made.
Wanted to do a little bit of building this evening so went to my stash and grabbed the (still sealed) copy of #7599 - which I got in a trade with @sirrich69 a couple of years ago.
messaged sirrich to ask if he’d ever opened the set, but he hadn’t…
I do remember buying one copy of #8073 from the same show a couple of years prior to the trade and I only have one logged as owned on Brickset…
I’m completely baffled by this one. All of the #7599 pieces were there so it’s not like someone did it as part of a switch. I seem to have gained extras from this but I’m left confused as anything.
(Seriously, who wants buildable sneakers!?!?!?)
Also, I just witnessed the Amazon Prime Day deal for the Razor Crest appear and sell out within 60 seconds. $78!!! I almost bought few in the heat of them moment, but thought better of it.
While I was building the wife asked me to take her to this thrift store nearby she had yet to see (I went to look for lego but have had no luck in the past visit). We piled into the car and off we went. Lego bags as far as the pegged wall could hold that left me and my son dancing with joy. We sifted through and ruled out a bunch (Grr mega blocks) and then came the serious discussion of which ones to get. My son picked a bag that was clearly all ninjago and what a great pick as when we got home the entire center out of view was full of snake bad guys and other cool figures we didn't even have. I picked up 2 bags myself 1 small one that had old space police figs and parts and a larger bag that turned out to be 90% of Launch and load seaport #6542 which cost me $15.00 for just that set. As we where heading out my son spotted a bin full of technic, we slid it out and low and behold it was complete set of #8547 Nxt 2.0 for $25.00 with a ton of technic added. All said in done we spent about $60 on lego and feel super pumped at our finds. Best part is it must have been adult owned as none of it was all sticky or gross with hair like usual for used lego.
Popped into the Leciester square store on Saturday, wow it was busy, but decided to pick up the Birds of Paradise.
In my opinion LEGO will never surpass the gorgeous dioramas in their catalogs of the 80s and 90s!
My next proper build will be my new Death Star, but I've got a lot of sorting and organising to do before I can settle down to that!
I've settled on his Jurassic Park skyline this time around, as it has a lot of green and generally looked appealing, so I've raided my collection and placed BL orders for that. I'm also readying myself to tackle a more architecture-styled one and really like the look of Neuschwanstein Castle, so I think that will be my next project. I'm going to try using BrickHunter for this project, to see how it performs overall. Some test runs seem to be positive, so I'm hopeful this might minimise BL orders to a certain extent.
Finally, I am slowly gathering period parts via BL orders, to make up a couple of Classic Space sets that are very difficult to get in the UK, #6901 Mobile Lab and #6861 X1 Patrol Craft. Progress has been good over the last couple of months, but I've got a little way to go still.
Cheers :-)
