I went to the cinema today. First time in years. Guess what I saw? No it wasn't Alien 40th anniversary! No it was Lego Movie 2! Obviously. And as it was at 10 o'clock on a Monday morning I was the only person there in the cinema. Seriously. The only one. Even the ticket check person wasn't there!
Oh and as for the film.... AWESOME!!

That's probably not a good sign for the theatre or the movie!

I think the cinema was empty because it was 10 o'clock on a Monday school /work day and possibly the last week of the film being on. I mean who goes to the cinema at 10 o'clock on a Monday morning?? (except me - obvs!)

I would totally go at 10 in the morning! When I saw the movie it was just me and and one other person (he was down a row or two in front of me). And the whole movie theater was like a ghost town even when I got out of the movie. I practically had to climb over the counter to get my popcorn refill. (At those prices I bring a clean bag to dump it in so I can get the refill & take it home.)

was it any good? I just want to see it but don't know if it is worth the money.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Certainly very entertaining. I didn't think it was quite as good as the first part though.

Fingers been itching to build for a while but busy taking care of my son and mother-in-law this half term. However, tonight I broke open the Dr Fox set of Unikitty. Not a theme I usually go for but could'nt resist it for a tenner. I even bought 2.

My son built the first one on Monday and has been having loads of fun with it. We don't know the sotryline, but he's been inventing so many stories with it. So top marks for a storyline. I've been quite enjoying the building too. Even if it's not that complicated, there are some cool bits in it and it's very colourful.

Had a little bit of a play with #70825 over lunch...

Think this could be a contender for my favourite set this year. So much to build and rebuild. Plus at half price it was an absolute bargain just for the parts!
It's easily one of my favorite sets within the past several years, tbh. I'm pretty fidgety, constantly playing with whatever's at hand (which might go a long way to explaining my general interest in Lego, hahaha). This set is just fun to pull out when I'm trying to watch a movie or something, to distract my hands. Just building her up randomly often produces some fun results.

That would have been a sacrifice too far, so I've just given up chocolate, cakes, crisps and alcohol. And mostly the will to live!

Another highlight of Bricks Cascade for me was talking with Jake Sadovich, the designer of the Ship in a Bottle. He is a really neat guy and an extremely talented builder. He had quite a few builds around the convention, including of course his original Ship in a Bottle design.

He was kind enough to sign my box for me!

I couldn't help but loving this mod that someone did of a Tardis in a Bottle!

A comparison shot that Jake took a while back of his build with the set gives a real good feel for just how big his original model is!

Having the interior of our house painted in advance of putting it up for sale, so I had to pack everything up. Took all weekend and more than 300 ft of bubble wrap! Probably won't see any of it again until after the move in a few months. Ugh.

Feeling disappointed that the used but "100% complete" Lego set I bought from eBay, has some pieces missing. Along with the added bonus of some lego bricks from a different set, a piece of a random Dreamworks toy (not lego) and some balled up foil, and an old receipt!

I know how you feel! Recently bought #918-1 100% complete with box and instructions only to find the 4x4 plate was replaced with a 1x4 plate and two 2x3 plates! Seller was pretty good at sending a replacement part though...

Just got a line on three Sweet Mayhem and one Benny Brickheadz for a decent price. Trying to consider if I just want to get One SM and Benny, or all four. Decisions decisions.

Does anyone have an Emmett or Wildstyle they'd be willing to consider trading for a Sweet Mayhem to help push me over the edge?

As long as you don't get cat turds and moist dog hair, it's probably still a 'win'.  I once acquired a bin of old SW LEGO that simultaneously reeked of Febreeze, body odor and paprika.

Right into the washing machine they went!

    Yes on the Mystery Machine.
Thanks! I originally had it on a standard baseplate covered in tiles, but I re-worked it to try and make use of one my many unused intersection road plates.

Yeah, I realise you're always taking a risk with these things, but to claim it's "100% complete" when you clearly haven't even checked what's in the box is a bit cheeky! I've contacted the seller to see what they say before I leave feedback! I'm going to wash all the pieces, as they're pretty filthy too, work out exactly what's missing and see if I can complete the set with buying individual pieces. It's #6969 - no idea if the sounds and lights work yet. I've thrown out the batteries it came with, and will try some new ones and see!

As it's Ebay you can simply report it as not as described and the seller has to refund in full and pay for return postage. If you want to keep it, you can negotiate a discount instead.

I'm stealing that idea.  I hadn't devised a workable way to incorporate the gas station.  I had considered using a runway plate, but nothing matched up.  And a brick-built road just looked terrible.

    Thanks!

Wait, you can wash Lego in a washing machine? Do you put them in some sort of bag? I might consider doing that with some dusty old Lego sets I have.

The pieces were not in the best shape to begin with, so I put them in a fine mesh bag on the gentle cycle, and on medium water temperature.  I also used 'delicate' detergent.

(I'm not sure what that meant, but I acknowledge that stupid marketing often works on me.)

They came out very clean, had no smell and were none the worse for wear.  I was expecting some rounded edges and scratches, but the pieces were fine.

If it were a 'new' or super-dusty set I displayed, I'd probably not run them through the washing machine.  I'd probably soak them and hand-wash the pieces.

I’m tempted to get half a dozen to try to make a more movie accurate version of the octopus like creature...but I don’t have anything like the needed cash for that.
Right? It's really the only option for a bunch of basic Duplo bricks that you need to make the types of creatures featured in the film. I actually browsed TRU's shelves, looking for a set with the rounded 2x4 bricks with eyes to make the ostritch(?) and the little flying ones from... but all of the sets currently available are very specialized, with like farm elemets or houses (and...Jurassic World Duplo! Who knew?). There's legit no other 'basic Duplo bricks' set out there, besides the TLM2 set.
There are definitely other sets out there with basic Duplo, even if your TRU didn't have them. The most current, with a really impressive value by Duplo standards, is #10887.
It's worth keeping in mind, though, that as with other LEGO movie characters, the Duplo aliens from The LEGO Movie often feature recolors and/or graphics that haven't necessarily shown up in previous sets. For example, here's BrickLink's list of parts in the dome shape used for the smallest, most basic Duplo aliens, and as you can see, the versions with an eye on one side from The LEGO Movie 2 were brand-new. Previous examples with an eye pattern had smaller eyes on both sides with various visual differences.
If it's any help, here's BrickLink's list of the 2x4x2 rounded bricks you're referring to. I think the faces from #10861 or #45018 perhaps most closely resemble the little flying ones, though not as varied in color. The closest match to the ostrich's face last appeared in #10561.
