Out early on a Harry Potter minifigure hunt, so far the supermarkets have let me down so time for a coffee while I wait for Argos to open!

Argos and WH Smiths were both selling the Harry Potter figures today. Local department store told me the managers really wanted to start selling them but were given very strict warnings on the Harry Potter Street dates.

Main thing is I was able to get a Graves and the department store (who I like to support) said they had 10 boxes in and would sell a sealed box to us on the first.

I saw this at the big Waterstones in Piccadilly last night. I was curious to when they would unwrap it. Were they being the only retailer to stick to an official release date?
  • bookmumbookmum Member Posts: 1,511
Interestingly I was wearing my Harry Potter tshirt while I took that photo. I'm suprised I wasn't mistaken for staff. Confession - I've only read the first 4 books and seen the first 2 films.

@Pitfall69 has been here for years.

Also decided to put out a new UCS TIE Fighter with a nice puncture wound on the back of the box in a local garage sale today.  $125.00 for the set... $100.00 if you take this horrible "LEGO" table I bought for the baseplates.  (That no human being could get the baseplates off of the table.  I think the guy welded the plates to the table.)

We'll see how it goes.  Never sold LEGO at a garage sale before!

(And yes, we call them garage sales - not 'boot' markets or whatever ya'll call them in the Old World.)

Today’s status is that I’m the happy owner of 95.45% of the new HP/FB minifigs from my first Brickset marketplace transaction. And preparing for the search for you know who.

Very pleased with myself as I walked in to ASDA this morning I found what I thought was an unopened box of Series 18 minifigs on the top of a shelf I reached up and took it down to find that it had been opened.  So I thought "oh well no policeman for me" but I'd thought I would check the left hand side 5 or 6 places back, no luck so tried place number 7 and low and behold I found Mr Policeman, only been after one for ages.
I did buy an overpriced one from eBay so may sell him to recoup my costs.

Mrs Omnium and me spent the day in Lincoln and found plenty of impressive Bright Bricks creations at Lincoln Castle, including a small unicorn model you could build and buy. At £3.50, it's expensive for what you get, but neat all the same, and I suppose the price accounts for the play opportunities there.

@FowlerBricks luckily we have attentive mods who made it all dissapear. Three cheers for them :)

@SumoLego and, did you sell? Or bought more than you sold?

We've been enjoying our Harry Potter afternoon, I posted enough what I thought of the set on the HP rumour thread (maybe that should be renamed HP thread now) ;) extra picture never goes amiss though.

@SumoLego, we have "car boot sales". They aren't quite the same as garage sales, but amount to the same thing in the end.

We have to call them 'boot sales' because we have these sales in a field in the arse-end of nowhere..we don't all live in the land of ' all that is glitter, gold and garages' ;-)

Today’s status is even happier than yesterday, now having 100% of the HP/FB CMFs before they're officially released. Plus a spare PG and S18 policeman. Actually make that status, smug.

Or being in a state of LEGO contentedness.

(Unless you are smug - so in that case, your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries... and I hope you S18 Policeman is actually a mis-felt Brick Boy!)

Finishing up the build for The Scuttler, managed to score this for under 50$ with taxes CND so I've been having a blast enjoying this retired set. Mainly wanted it for Poison Ivy, but the rest is pure icing on a very delicious cake.

I fear the inevitable end when CMF's have been collected..the fear is what will be next and that fear is SDCC exclusives...I hope to Christ that wont happen unless someone has a better idea or would like to give me a serious slap to my reality..
  • Gibbo1959Gibbo1959 Member Posts: 548
@redarmy There is no end... there’ll be another 3 sets next year, and the year after that, ad infinitum! I’m just trying to collect enough old style display boxes for future proofing.

@redarmy Unless you're just ignoring it or getting a custom knock off version there will never be an end to CMF because of that most annoying of rarities. Mr. Gold. *Grumble, Grumble*

The temperature has finally dropped in the SE of the UK over the last couple of days, people from hot countries seem to enjoy mocking the British and their weather moans. But I don't know where else has such extremes. Thursday at LL Windsor it was 34C as we left at 7pm. It was still in the 20s overnight. Today its been constantly raining and barely made it to 19C all day! But it does mean more energy to build LEGO.

I have cheated a wee bit by not collecting Dfb and The Simpsons(no interest)..but yes I agree that Mr Gold will create a slight issue..:-D

Prepping myself as I look at my work and personal schedule trying to figure out when and how often I can hit various Target and Walmart stores this week in attempts to get the last 3 HP MFs.  Yes, last 3.  Friday at lunch I ran to the mall and stopped at Barnes and Noble.  Looked over the Lego aisle.  Nothing.  Figured they weren't out as some have reported.  Then on my way out of the store, I glanced at the register area.  There sat a box and as I approached I could tell it was freshly opened.  I went to the back left and counted 4 in.  Yup there he was!  Now unfortunately I wasn't prepared on exactly what to feel for as I have been for other series so I was trying to learn on the the spot.  My time was limited.  I ended up with 21 total.  Later found that I had 2 duplicates (no I haven't opened them yet).  Therefore 3 remain:  Hermoine, Voldemort, and Dean Thomas.  Not sure how I missed the flag.  Somehow had a hard time finding the cat.  Went too fast over the ones with sloped bottoms.

After some studying this weekend, I'm pretty sure I can fairly quickly identify a bag now, though admittedly this series is a little more difficult than some of the previous.  Any additional Graves I can find on my hunt will be a bonus.

I was considering starting up a train collection, with the new remote-controlled ones and the Hogwarts Express... until it turned out that the latter isn't getting a release until November down here, thanks to TRU's closing.

Had visitors today so couldn't do more Wizarding World building today (Newt's case is still there) but I couldn't resist doing another 3in1 when they left, #31079, now all relaxed after that.

Love the effect Lego has on me and so ready to have a good night's sleep, can't believe I've gone over half of the year and not missed one of my daily builds yet :)

I bought #31079 for the van, and hadn't even looked at the 2 alternative builds yet... Might now want a 2nd one!

Well... Here in NL it was 38c last Fridayafternoon (try shifting into 2nd in my Peug308 with aluminium gear knob after standing in the sun for a while, AUTSCH!...), and just 20c Saturday morning.
So I think you should move here. ;)

Bit of a first for me - I've just ordered a full box of Harry Potter minifigures from my local toy store.  I've always avoided CMFs, but I just couldn't resist!

Still really pissed off at the kid who was removing minifig heads with his mouth while playing at our house. Not only is it disgusting but it ruins the faces. Not sure how long he had been at it before I caught him. Anyway I just needed to vent to an understanding audience.
If you catch anyone doing it again, just drop into the conversation how funny it was when the dog/cat swallowed those particular minifigures. It's amazing how quickly things get removed from a kids mouth when the natural course of events is realised.

Popped to the Lego Expo in Wantage this afternoon and saw King Alfred.
Did a charity shop trawl and found #3841 Minotaurus game complete for a couple of quid.

What a conversation that would have been.
    "But it's just a toy..."
    "It's not a toy, it's a sophisticated interlocking brick system! And it's a Comic-Con exclusive!"

Anyway, all the new Aus releases are tomorrow (not sure about the rest of the world)! Wooo!

Was out getting some Harry Potter CMFs and saw the Mickey and Minnie Brickheadz, so I picked them up. When are these supposed to be released? Haven't seen them anywhere. The database here has no info.
