The measurements were tight, but I took a punt on one of the Billy bookcases from Ikea with the glass doors. These are 202cm high, 80cm wide and 30cm deep. Actual shelf measurement is 76 x 26 which was touch and go for the depth for a 32x32 baseplate. As it turns out, the doors stand slightly proud so plenty of room for that size of baseplate - there is about 1cm to spare if you position the base plate wholly behind the glass, about 0.5cm to spare if you position it at the end of the shelf as I have as the wooden door protrudes slight further into the cabinet than the glass. Even with the slightly protruding roof at the rear the Old Fishing Store fits fine.

Looks nice, plenty of capacity (I've just dumped a few models in so far to decide where to put the shelves - there is another shelf spare at the moment) and at £95 an absolute bargain. Plenty of other colours, though some are £30 more for some reason. The dark red is nice, but I reckon the models would blend into the background too much.
The Billy bookcase seems like a popular option on here. I've considered getting a couple for my office, but without ever seeing one in person, I've been worried they were both too deep for my office space and not deep enough to store anything useful. I'd have to remove the radiator in my office to make them work, but it's never been used in the 6 years I've lived here, so that's not a big problem. (Other than the hassle involved in removing a radiator.)

Thanks guys! There was just something about the tile that looked off...
Should correct my earlier statement.  It was actually Chris Giddens PRE classic space stuff that I was specifically getting the vibe for with that big round clear cockpit!

I worry that if a 'Classic Space' theme were to be introduced... and then bombed at sales... we'd never again see any 'Classic' themes.

The last go-round of Pirates sold out of the stock, but I don't think much was produced.  It wasn't wildly successful.
I concur on Pirates last outing for Oz.
However, take a look at Imperial Flagships. With TLG's recent, obvious examination of aftermarket value and popularity, even they must realise that if they do a ship properly, it will sell like hotcakes.  You can't tell me a D2C sized classic castle with at least a dozen minifigs, three or four horses and a small dragon wouldn't be an instant hit?  It would also be seen as a slot (and somewhat similar set)  that could have gone to Ninjago) Though the introduction of licensed stuff & in house themes with extended media has indisputably been good, I wonder about the damage to classic themes as a whole.
I don't know if it's accurate to treat the declining popularity of some of the classic play themes as an effect of licensed or story-driven themes. That almost makes it sound as though the only reason kids aren't as interested in Castle or Pirates sets nowadays is that there's more/cooler stuff to choose from. But even if big successful themes like Ninjago weren't in the picture, that's no guarantee that the classic themes would still be as trendy as they were in the 80s. Don't forget, both Castle and Pirates had been relaunched in the two years before Ninjago even came out, but didn't achieve nearly the same level of success and each only managed to last one or two non-consecutive waves that time around.

Plus, even the success of themes like Ninjago and Star Wars hasn't gotten the way of LEGO City's seemingly unstoppable record as a year-after-year bestseller. City has had two video games and some animated shorts, but never a movie or a full TV series like Ninjago. It usually doesn't even have named characters. So I don't think the lack of stable year-after-year success for Castle and Pirates can be attributed to them being non-media-driven fish in a media-driven pond.

After a difficult task completed, I took a little build break. Think I will try and create a park next to add some Spring here.

Quite pleased with myself, found the PPG Team Pack today at a local Wal-Mart for 5.86$ CND. Completes my Series 2 LEGO Dimensions collection outside of the two Polybags.

    I had no idea

I always thought it was that everybody was playing the demo and not the full game (guilty) so there were huge losses after release. I was so disappointed, but I was never going to pay a cent for the full game.

Received a bricklink shipment yesterday... but not with the real deal. First time that happened, though I must say I kind of expected it. Parts too cheap...

At least, unless I am mistaken, but... every turntable TLG made has had the Lego logo on the underside, right?

Bought a monorail set today #6990 from a Bricklinker in Europe and am in the process of getting #6991.  Will get #6399 sometime in the future and a lot of track from 4DBrix as well.  Very happy, lots of stuff to build soon.

Warning: The following image may be considered too disturbing for AFOLs. Avert your eyes if you must!
I had been tossing 1 x 1 plates and tiles in a tackle box, with the plan to sort them into compartments at a later date. That date was going to be yesterday, after just putting a couple of other things away and then turning around a little too quickly...

That is just the worst feeling when you hear 'CRASH!!' and you know you just tipped a LEGO bin of parts...

A bit miffed today at not being able to find the Baby Rapter polys at a Walmart yet (even with brickseek).

Went to see Han Solo and really fancied getting a set out of the cupboard and build it, but I was good and finished what I was doing instead.

I built the last 3 bags of the #41130: Amusement Park Roller Coaster.

Really pretty impressed with this, there's tons of play value in here, a Ferris wheel, a popcorn stand, the entrance, the roller coaster, a place to buy pictures, a couple of tables, a whirly thing that goes up and down (not sure what it's called). The colours are very futuristic and flashy but it's really pretty fun and quite big all togher.

We've all been there @BillyBricks84 I have all my Microfighters in a card TRU ELGO sorting tray from a Ninjago build event. Fairly stable, but when I grabbed a magazine out from behind it both fell over taking all 28 with it and the City truck parked on top and the boat that was half on top of that!

We went away for the weekend and I'd forgotten about it when until I walked through the door again!

Todays status, a quite period for me recently, but had to pop to Smyths to get a present for a party that Little Miss Speedman was going to, so got the JW playpen and treated myself to #75207 to go with Han's speeder that I got a while back

It's been a month since I got the Roller Coaster set and I figured it's a good time to add to it!!  The decent promo is still live, I don't see Double Points coming for a while, and you only live once.  I can't let everybody get too ahead of me with their MOCs.  I've done a lot of cleaning and finally have the space I need to set up something BIG!!!!

I'll probably add a monorail when it arrives and maybe put a train layout in the area too.  I think I'll remove the foldable table I have and replace it with two Ikea tables as well.  Might go get some bricks at the LEGO store this week and plan some orders from Bricklink too.

It's not really a status from today, but this week I received my first order from Bricks and Pieces. A single piece (just to have free delivery and because my daughter had broken an identical piece).
I appreciate the care with the packaging but maybe a bit overkill? And am I the only one thinking that LEGO needs to cut back of their plastic usage (bags in sets included)?

  • jnscoelhojnscoelho Member Posts: 704
Maybe... Then again, I like opening all bags and mix everything to assemble a set, so...

Debating what should I get as I'm trying to keep a budget for my upcoming trip. Maybe you guys can help.

    A. $49.99 U-wing (Amazon)
    B. $32.82 Blue's Helicopter Chase (Walmart)
    C. $19.99 Quantum Realm Explorers + extra set for free shipping (S@H order as I still haven't seen it in stores)
    D. $32.99 Knightcrawler Tunnel Attack (Amazon)

I know the best value is in the U-wing (38% off)
But I don't want another Ant-man fiasco and lose out on those minifigs. Is the set a S@H exclusive or will they start showing up in stores soon? Not a big DC fan so option D is just there 'cause I consider it a good deal. The JW set I know I'll get somewhere down the road.

    Thoughts?

Well, I already plan to use two of the red ones, but....yeah I should probably build more cars that I want to keep before I overflow with fenders.

Yesterday my wife declared a desire to watch the Lego Movie, which is rare. Probably prompted by our discussion about having "Everything is Awesome" being a song at we have for our vow renewal ceremony next year. We both like it, but the song is a bit too dance-y. Maybe we try and find an upbeat acoustic version.

She promptly fell asleep during the film. :)

I, meanwhile, dug out #75172. I greatly enjoyed the build.

She has an incredible ability to sleep through anything.

For some reason my mind paints a totally different picture then in reality when processing that sentence, me thinks.

Also, my mind thinks "how does she fall asleep when that is happening?".

I had wanted to buy this since day one, but my wife always says I have to leave her things she can buy for me too within our budget for birthdays or other occasions. So, I've been patiently waiting and hoping, and finally was rewarded with this:

I can't wait to start to build this! June and early July tend to be absolute chaos for my schedule due to my other hobby, fireworks. I do a display on the 4th of July for my community. But it tends to eat up about 200+ hours of my time when it's all said and done. So, as much as I desperately want to build this TODAY, It'll most likely sit until after the 4th.
