Yesterday's sorting revealed that we hadn't filtered out all the M*** B***s from the last charity shop batch by a long chalk - that box in the attic "for visitors' children to play with" is really growing! :S

Finally finished sorting that job lot by color. Put a few items from it on BrickLink already.

@bandit778 - I understand completely! Comparing situations was not the best idea I had there. Sorry about that, and for any implied judgement of your other half.

8 years ago we were in a very small space with 3 children to look after. There was no way I could've displayed even one minifig back then, so I can appreciate where you're coming from.

Looking forward to seeing more of those work in progress shots by the way! The sphere is looking good!

    I resemble that remark.
I put my off brand bricks in a metal box, and that was much of the work of sorting a garage sale purchase recently.
We have a tub of mixed Duplo and generics in the basement which is often brought out when young kids come over.

Rather fed up - my Clubcard vouchers have finally been applied to my account, which with Boost gives me a grand total of £27... so naturally, they've put the Fortrex price back up to £79.99. So it's still a good discount relative to the price, but it'd mean spending more on Lego than I can justify right now.

Since half of that £27 will vanish at the end of the Boost promotion, I'm going to see what else I could put the money towards, but damn, I really wanted that Fortrex...

Wait until the next Boost in November/December?  Doh! this is the last Boost event.
Wait until the Argos 3 for 2 at the end of this month or start of June?

Unfortunately that would still mean spending a lot at once - I rely on money-off vouchers and loyalty points when it comes to buying bigger sets. In this case I went with Jestro's Evil Mobile, since it was on my wanted list anyway, and I'll see if I can figure out something for the Fortrex later in the year!

For the first time ever, I saw an exclusive/hard-to-find set at one of my local TRUs. UCS Slave 1. There were five of them, priced at $229.99. And this is the old-as-dirt TRU, not one of the newer ones. I've never seen a UCS, modular, etc. at any of them in my area until now.

Went to Legoland California today, first time in 15+ years (4 year old son is a good reason).

They had a lot of new sets available (I think they were just putting some of them out today), off the top of my head:
Unfortunately I don't have much room in my luggage, so I just bought the legoland train set #40166 and a bunch of polybags, including some I hadn't seen before: #30399, #30424, #30279. And my first Mixel #41568!

The MotorCity ComicCon was ok.  I did manage to get an autograph from Lea Thompson for a buddy of mine in the UK. I had to do some creative financing to come up with the money for it. Thank God for PayPal and smart phones :)

So his buddy is relaxing late Saturday night and receives a picture of some strange folk at ComicCon in the States.  Big deal he says.

He then sends another picture of an empty Lea Thompson signings stand and black 4x4 truck.  Okay, he has my attention.

Back to the Future being the best film in the world, this is huge.  Only it's an empty desk.  I chat with him a little and confess to him what she did for me as a kid, blah blah blah.

A short while later another picture arrives only this time she's back at her table.  I'm going beserk.  What an opportunity.  He says he has no cash and after a bit lot of nagging tells me to leave it with him.

An hour later he's back.  "You won't believe this" he says.  He's been going up and down the line asking to exchange paypal transfers for cash.  He manages it and now he's up there at the front of the line, meeting her.  Nooooooo!

He introduces himself and explains that he has some weird British nut at the other end of a live Messenger conversation before handing her his phone to read.  I'm told "she was smitten" but I'm sure he added that for effect.  Still.  [dreamin']

He came away with a handshake.  I came away with the most amazing birthday card!

And then, an hour ago, a further picture arrives with a video message.

    "Happy Birthday."

    Too much.
I am glad you gave everyone the short story ;)

Ah, but, would you sing? ;) Perhaps at Pitfallcon 2016? :D

The "sharpie" is already on it's way to a Danish toy company I'm afraid. It'a Staedtler actually, a fine pen, but the name is not so well recognised, unlike the intended recipient. The desk of a Mr. J. Berard. Perhaps you've heard of him? ;o)

I'm not sure I believe your paypal transfers for cash bit tho, might as well 'fess up that your autograph table was next to Lea's, though I think your Mr Stay Puft disguise above fooled most fans. ;o)

Roughly sorted a massive box of Lego this evening:

    - tinies (anything with a stud footprint of 2x1 or less)
    - minifigs and their wearables and holdables, plus animals & birds
    - tilt/rotate/hinge elements
    - bricks (if it looks like I could build a wall, arch or roof with it, it's here)
    - plates
    - weird things (i.e. everything that isn't any of the above; this category contains multitudes)

Once I've sorted all the Lego into these categories, I can return to each category at my leisure and sort it more precisely, e.g. "weird things" will divide into vehicular (chassis, wheels, windshields), architectural (windows and doors), environmental (palm tree parts, BURPs) and... god only knows.

I don't expect to get everything perfectly sorted and I'd guess that with my partner helping, we won't always have made identical judgment calls about where a part belongs. But I'll settle for "this system more or less works", because in the search for precision lies madness...

Going through a tough time and super depressed for past 2 months. Building/buying is not helping like it usually does to cheer me up. Breaking down sets helped a bit and Bricklinking a couple sets worked a bit better. But teetering on the edge now with scary ponderings of culling the collection. First gem on the block might be #10177 Dreamliner. But trying to give it more time before taking that step for fear of regret later on...
  • tallblocktootallblocktoo CanadaMember Posts: 497
@BrickDancer  Culling it all would seem drastic.  Hang on to some of the treasures at least. Change is sometimes good but scary.  May you make the right decision.  Wishing you the best.

Thanks @tallblocktoo. This has been the most difficult thing I've gone through. But like all things, good or bad, it shall pass. "It can't rain all the time."

If it were to happen though, I would be hanging on to the SW UCS collection at least. The big question for me is to give up on the figs (SW, SH and CMF) or not. That's the majority of value for my collection and prevents me from selling a lot of the normal sets the figs come in. But some gems such as Creator Experts like Modulars, Trains, Ships, etc. might be on the block depending on how deep I cut into the collection.

@BrickDancer - sorry you're having a tough time. For what it's worth, I agree with you that these things will pass. I'm not full of advice, but can I just suggest that you keep talking (to your family, your friends, on here and anywhere else you're comfortable), keep active doing the things you like and maybe think about seeing a doctor (that's easier if you're UK-based I'd imagine, but "Dunes of Tatooine" don't help me much here). If not a doctor, then maybe a charity or somewhere that offers counselling and other help. Talking is good.

Here in the UK it's Mental Health Awareness Week, and I couldn't let a comment like yours pass me by without saying something in support. Hope it gets better for you soon.

I would love to see reissues or updates of so many sets.  It seems that it has happened with some but I am not so sure we will ever see them do the modulars.

That initial euphoria of discovering Lego again was intense, like falling down the rabbit hole and discovering a new world. All the learning, buying, building, cataloging and sorting made me turn inwards and forget about the real world for weeks at a time.
still in dat phase. but it might be ending soon. i dont buy overpriced items now. and go out again on weekends! in the beginning it feels like you need to have everything. you become lego VIP. spend hours in the lego store staring at all those fancy sets in awe. spending a fortune on PaB-Wall for useless parts you might need in a future project. buy sets @MSRP.
then found brickset, the forum and bricklink.
it really helped keeping the chaos together! make my lego spending effective!
knowing that there are others, that are having a similar connection to lego, is kind of cool! not much nerdom or sausage copters in austrian/german lego forums!
in august its 1 year for me since i m back.
any advice for a mad hatter minifig?
