Watched the latest episode of "Impossible Engineering" on the Science channel last night, covering the building of the world's largest cruise ship. One of the builders said the process of building the decks was very similar to building with LEGO. If you like documentaries about building BIG things, I highly recommend this series.

Of course, having said that, installing unauthorised software is usually a dismissable offence in most contracts....
Its in my contract I shouldn't but don't think its a dismissable offence. I'm also not meant to speed, eat in the car and lots of other things that my manager has told me he does and he knows I will, just don't take the piss! I was with him today and he was using fb for chatting on his laptop while he worked on the sites laptop. Thankfully its not been locked down and I'm only in the office 2-3 times a year so don't think anyone will notice/care as long as it doesn't mess up work software. Obviously ldd running from a usb drive would be awesome though

@nexander If your laptop can handle it: virtual machines! :)

A small virtual machine with all your personal software and data will not interfere with your work-related stuff.

is "windows virtual pc" still in windows 10?
  • JooTogJooTog Member Posts: 945
No; starting with Windows 8, Hyper-V is included instead :) Which is way better. You need to add it as a Windows feature:

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off

You do need Windows "Pro" edition though; which should be the case for a work computer.

Snaffles decided that a pile of lego makes quite a comfortable place to sit - so today's lego status involved trying to remove a cat from a pile of lego without her sending pieces flying all over the place

As for my Lego status today: I'd rather be sorting. Curse you, mundane requirements of everyday life! Oh well, if I'm up to it later I might get to buy some more containers to sort into, for when I get the time... :)

Deciding what to buy with some gift cards when I go to TRU. It feels like I am planning a bank raid on the scale of Hatton Garden. :)
The TRU staff often make me feel like I am some sort of criminal for trying to use vouchers and such, in the most efficient way.

i did identify 14 of the 16, but the last 2, Frightening Knight and Kendo Fighter i just could not find with in my time limit. did not help that i had the one who i was shopping with (who done the food shop for all but the stuff i normally pick up) was for the last 20 minutes was standing over me saying your running out of time hurry up. Over and Over.

will try again next week. if there is any left.

side note Picked up Star Wars VII on DVD :-) for £7, £3 off when you spend £30 on your food shop. and this month's Nexo Knights Mag.

Wondering what to build over the weekend as the weather forecast seems to suggest rain, wind and possibly snow!! It's the typical "wonderful weather all week while at work, rain starts Friday evening at 18:00 or the moment you step out of the office" syndrome.

If it's any consolation, that's pretty much the forecast for much of the UK as well...

Ah well, I'm going to pop along to Stratford to visit the LEGO Store there to look at the PaB wall and pick up a small set for one of my daughters, prior to heading to the O2 to see Jeff Lynne's ELO. Prog / Symphonic Rock / Pop FTW! :-)

So after 3 hours last night, a total of 6 hours thus far, I have completed the sorting of my huge bin of legos by colors: white, black, red, blue, brown, yellow, green, tires/wheels, gray and other larger shapes such as ship parts and mountain pieces. Now cleaning can begin. Reds are already soaking in warm soap water. The whites will need a long back in hydrogen peroxide.

it's acutally 3 sets - and @catwrangler you were right!  the others sets are the friends hot air balloon set and Falls Rescue.  I bought them 2nd hand as a job lot for parts - so I'm not making 3 sets at once!

^ Same reaction I have whenever I really think about my cat traipsing across the kitchen counter or my dogs trampling my bed pillows before laying on them. My life is clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and bulk-purchased pillowcases because I have contamination anxiety issues. :P

Thinking about a major overhaul of my social media, email accounts & other online stuff, including creating dedicated social media accounts for all my Lego stuff, on top of working on a few Lego Ideas projects & more Microfighter designs... Thinking my SW MOC will be waiting a little longer, again.

    I did that too.

    http://xwingpilot.uk

I got the URL for my Brickset username and forwarded it to an about.me page which links on to my flickr. I don't have any other LEGO social media yet so I used the 'spotlight' option to link to flickr, but there's also the 'social links' feature that you can use to link to multiple different social media accounts.

I don't know if you can tell it but I'm quite bored at work counting down the minutes to be home with the girls to start sorting Lego into colors. My wife and I watched who framed Roger Rabbit 2 nights back and I wanna  make Benny the Cab. Also after watching the Princess Bride THURSDAY for the first time, I'm gonna bring the dread Pirate Roberts to life. I didn't know Fred Savage was in Princess Bride. For a second there, I thought I was watching Vice Versa.

The Princess Bride is amazing (and the little-known book it was based on is equally so). There's a couple of good renditions on MOCpages, if you need inspiration!

Or wait to see if it will be on sale on Lego Shop@home  "May the 4th be with you" Sale.

i also had a fun day on the phone with amazon about my missing order for the F40.
have a new one now being shipped out to me for tomorrow. for the same price i payed for the Amazon Warehouse one that was lost by Amazon Logistics. you never wish to see the following on an amazon order page.

I've been window-shopping to decide which set to get with my Nectar points. Argos's outlet on Ebay does click-and-collect, which would circumvent the postage charges. I have £17.50 in Nectar points so that gives me some nice options even if I don't add any more money to it.

@nexander I have been using Mecabricks. It's all web-browser based (so nothing additional to install). It doesn't have all the parts but I find the parts selection is great enough that I can build most things on there.

Was away half of last week for work. Made up for it by dropping into the LEGO shop in Sheffield on the way home to get my bonus 100 free VIP points. Picked up the Scooby Doo plane set, so that just leaves the mansion to get (at half price by the time I add all the VIP points up) Also got the pick a model butterfly for my daughter which she loved. Took a trip to the shop to get some bread and came back with the latest Ninjago magazine, then started eyeing up the Temple of Airjitzu for a future purchase. Finally helped out at the school carboot sale and picked up two penguin polybags from the mid 90s (Only sold in Turkey and Japan) for 25p each and one of the LEGO games with some chickens to build for £1.

I've already converted them for Ebay use - I tend not to have Sainsbury's on my radar because there's not one handy for us (carless) and I do so much of my shopping for all sorts of things on Ebay. Still, good to know for the future!
